• Made his film debut at the age of 3 in the movie Luksam Tagumpay (1955) which was directed by his late father Gregorio Fernandez
• Became an active actor in 1970 while studying at the University of Santo Tomas
• Established himself as an action star and won two FAMAS Awards for his roles in Batuigan Pasukuin si Waway (1984) and Victor Corpuz (1988)
• Recipient of the Film Academy of Philippines Lifetime Achievement Award
• Received the 2008 Ulirang Artista Lifetime Achievement Award from the Philippine Movie Press Club at the 24th Star Awards for Movies
• Ran for Mayor of Quezon City in 2001 but lost out to Feliciano Belmonte Jr
• After two years of struggle against pancreatic cancer, he passed away at the age of 56 in 2008
