  • Was the lead singer, songwriter and rhythm guitarist for New Wave pioneers the Cars, who released six albums during their 1976 to '88 run.
  • Made his solo debut with the album Beatitude, released by Geffen Records in 1982.
  • Met wife Paulina Porizkova in 1984, when she starred in the Cars' video for their smash single "Drive."
  • Had a bit part in the 1987 film Made in Heaven and a cameo in the original Hairspray (1988).
