• Didn't start playing volleyball until his senior year of high school
• After college, he worked for a concrete company and a firm that painted stripes on Florida highways
• Won a gold medal in the 2008 Olympics with partner Todd Rogers and was named tournament MVP
• Named FIVB Most Outstanding Player of the Year in 2010, 2013, and 2014
• Finished ninth at the 2012 Olympics in London with Rogers
• Partnered with Nick Lucena in 2015 and was named 2015 USA Volleyball Beach Team of the Year; previously won with Rogers (2008, 2010) and Sean Rosenthal (2014)
• Seeded third with Lucena at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, but the pair placed fifth in the final tournament
