  • Born without fibulas; had his lower legs amputated below the knees when he was 11 months old.
  • Participated in rugby, water polo, tennis and wrestling as a teen.  
  • Turned to competitive track in 2004; runs on carbon-fiber prosthetic blades known as "Cheetahs."
  • Won two medals at the 2004 Paralympic Games and golds in the 100m, 200m and 400m at the 2008 Games. 
  • Ruled ineligible to compete in able-bodied IAAF-sanctioned events in 2008, but won an appeal in May of that year with the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
