"Maksgate." That's what ousted celebrity dancer Carson Kressley is calling the dust-up Monday night between pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy and two of the three Dancing With the Stars judges...
What a difference a week makes. In the course of seven days, two very different men have changed the way transgender activist Chaz Bono moves on Dancing With the Stars: the first is former swing dance champion Buddy Schwimmer, dance teacher and father of Bono's partner, Lacey. And the second is fellow competitor J.R. Martinez, who shot to the top of the fifth-week leader board.
She's worn plenty of glitter and feathers in her time, but when Cher arrived in the ballroom at Dancing With the Stars on Monday, everything about her highly-promoted appearance was very low key: She wore a simple black dress and muted floral shawl. Her hair was down and unadorned. But everyone was aware of her presence, and she couldn't stay quiet before, during and after her son, Chaz Bono, danced the paso doble to "Gonna Fly Now" from Rocky.
Security was exceptionally tight in the ballroom for the season premiere of ABC's Dancing With the Stars. Beefy guards were seated in the audience and stood, ready to take action, both before and after transgender activist Chaz Bono took to the floor with his partner, Lacey Schwimmer. "I didn't pay attention to any of it," Bono said after the show. "I just wanted to do a good job dancing."
Cher is standing up for her son Chaz, who will compete on the new season of Dancing with the Stars. "Lovelies! Chaz is being viciously attacked on blogs & message boards about being on DWTS! This is still America right ? It took guts 2 do it," she tweeted on Wednesday. "I support him no matter what he chooses to do. . . It took courage to do DWTS! Thank God Chaz has an unlimited supply."
