• Played with his brother Tom Fogerty in the Blue Velvets in the late 1950s; the group later became the Golliwogs, and eventually evolved into Creedence Clearwater Revival
• Joined the U

• Army Reserve in the mid-'60s to avoid being drafted
• Scored nine Top 10 hits---all of which he wrote---with CCR from 1969 to 1972
• A year after leaving CCR, released a 1973 album of cover songs as the Blue Ridge Rangers, in which Fogerty sang and played all the instruments
• Did not record from 1975 to 1984 because of legal problems with his former label, Fantasy Records
• Was sued by Fantasy because "The Old Man Down the Road," a cut from his 1985 solo album, Centerfield, allegedly too closely resembled the CCR song "Run Through the Jungle
• " Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a member of CCR, in 1993; inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005
• Reunited with Fantasy in 2005---for the release of best-of album The Long Road Home---when the label's new owners arranged to restore royalty rights Fogerty had relinquished in the mid-'70s to gain release from his contract
