Long before he and Nat Faxon's screenplay for "The Descendants" won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, it appeared on the 2008 Black List, a list of the most popular unproduced scripts in Hollywood

Though he's had a number of guest roles in popular television series such as "That '70s Show" and "Friends," he is best known for his starring role as over-the-top community college administrator Dean Graig Pelton in "Community․"
Jokingly stated that if he were to record a country album, it would be called "Pancakes and Dreams․"
While filming "The Way, Way Back," his first directorial effort, he and collaborator Nat Faxon watched the actors finish a scene and stand there silently for a little while before they realized they were the ones who were supposed to say "cut․"
