• Started acting as a child in Little Rock community theater shows; at age 14, he was awarded a scholarship to the Minneapolis Children's Theater
• While still in his junior year at Northwestern, he was flown out to LA to audition for Marty McFly in Back to the Future
• In 1988, spoke to Christopher Reeve about the pressures of being Superman; fifteen years later, Newbern became the voice of Superman in several Justice League animated movies, shows, and videogames
• Was cast as a hitman on Scandal because the show's producer was a Father of the Bride fan, and thought it was perfect against-type casting
