• Wanted to be an architect from the age of 12, after visiting his builder grandfather at sites
• Supported himself at university by renovating houses
• With Bobby Desai, started the architecture practice clarke: desai; projects included redesigning Jamie Oliver's restaurant Fifteen
• In 2011, fronted the series The Great British Property Scandal to raise awareness of homelessness despite 1 million houses lying empty across Britain
• Is an ambassador for the charities Prince's Regeneration Trust and Shelter, and is a patron of the design and architecture charity The Civic Trust
