Birth Name:Louis Gabriel Basso III
Birth Place:St. Louis, Missouri, United States
When it comes to acting, Laura Linney knows no fear. She has embodied everyone from steely First Lady Abigail Adams in HBO's John Adams to FDR's mousy cousin/lover in the recent biopic Hyde Park on Hudson. But with her Golden Globe-winning performance on The Big C, she took on a seemingly impossible feat: making cancer funny. Now the show is being put to rest with a four-episode finale, but neither Linney nor her character, Cathy, is going down quietly. Tonight's episode finds her struggling with chemotherapy — she wants to stop treatment so she can feel well enough to take care of her family and make sure they'll be strong enough to survive without her. Soon after the show's fourth season wrapped, the 49-year-old three-time Emmy winner shared her thoughts about the end of Cathy's journey.
For The Big C's Adam, Season 2 is about dealing with his mom's cancer — and acting out. "He's branching out looking for compassion from other people," Gabriel Basso tells TVGuide.com. "He's not looking to his family for it." When the season wrapped up, Adam finally learned that his mom, played by Laura Linney, was fighting cancer. When the Showtime series returns on Monday (10:30/9:30c), Adam will begin to deal with possibility of death from a therapist his parents force on him. See photos from The Big C
British actor Hugh Dancy and indie film darling Parker Posey will guest-star on the second season of The Big C, Showtime announced Thursday. Dancy will appear in at least six episodes, playing a cancer patient who befriends Cathy (Laura Linney). Posey will play Poppy, a woman who has a surprising relationship with Cathy's teenaged son Adam (Gabriel Basso).
