At Newtown Automatic, Mr. Hetherill sees his workers has a family and s nicknamed "Daddy". Hudson arrests a former employee with the copper but has to break the bad news that a director has been stealing a large amount of platinum.

A Rubens worth £100,000 is stolen from a house in Plasto Square. PC Culshaw and D.I. Hudson search for lead at the Hancock's home. What they discover is the Rubens on the shed roof. The shocked Hancock's become superstar criminals.

Buoyed by beating the crime car to arrest Spud Murphy breaking into to Rimmer's Electronics, PC Steve Tate re-checks an untaxed car parked by his home. Fearing he will ruin their plans, Murphy's two confederates beat Tate to a pulp.

PC Steve Tate is rushed to hospital in a critical condition. All units are looking for the car seen outside Murphy's home. D.I. Hudson needs every trick to get Murphy to give up his co-conspirators but the situation changes when Tate dies.

Det. Insp. Goss and Sgt. Stone learn they have a major incident. The controls of Dakota, arriving from Dublin and carrying 32 passengers, have locked. Stone is sent to a field outside Newtown and prepare for an emergency landing.

Sgt. Stone has put the Major Incident Plans in place, for the crippled Dakota, but D.I. Gough learns it could hit the centre of Newtown. An air pocket restores the Dakota's controls so it heads for Liverpool airport but suddenly crashes.

Smedley tells how he met a girl, in a club and now he is paying £25 a month or the photo's go to his wife. Sgt Stone sets up a sting. Markland is quitting Seaport but has a £350 blackmail to collect while Jan Mercer is given Smedley's £25.

Alec Quilley wants to reignite a romance with Beth. She is dating his former school mate Chris Hankin unaware he and Donny Claythorpe are behind a spate of shop break in's. When Hankin arrives with a badly cut hand, Quilley is suspicious.

An house breaker has been nicknamed Vernon Varius. He may be Irish so Bert Lynch visits several pubs and sees barman Ron Bellis singing. Bellis breaks in via the bedroom of 8-year-old boy, who will let him go if he tells him a fairy tale.

Sgt. Stone is livid that Vernon Various has thwarted him again by telling a Welsh fairy tale. Insp. Goss decides re-interview the boy and learns that Vernon is a Welsh singer. Sgt. Lynch now knows who he is and exactly where to find him.

Helen Carter is living alone in a large tower block. Isolated, she is terrified when a suspicious male keeps knocking at her door but never speaks. When Lynch and Quilley arrive, the man has vanished inside one of the many flats.

Just when Helen Carter's life returns to normal, she starts to get suspicious telephone calls and the fright returns. Lynch has befriended Helen and sees Powell outside her home and gives chase. Powell will only say he is partially blind.

Insp. Goss is investigating an assault on Francis Webb. He suspects the Brice fraternity and heads to Sid Dean's wedding, only to see PC Alec Quilley. Arresting Eric Brice, the other two brothers beat up Sid Deans has a message to Quilley.

Dicky Green and Sid Phipps are spotted acting suspiciously in a multi-storey car park. Approached by a City of Liverpool police officer, Phipps pulls a gun and shoots him. Newtown is put on high alert when their car is found abandoned.

Green and Phipps breakthrough a police road block before abandoning their car again. Now on foot, Green takes the opportunity to break free and hand himself in to the police. Newcombe, Skinner and Horrock rush Phipps in his hotel room.

Tommy Jefferson is in the last week of his sentence, sharing a cell with heavies Burroughs and Mills. Burroughs has a job planned but needs Mills help him escape. Sgt. Stone is looking for Jimmy Jefferson, who has just escaped for borstal.

Tommy Jefferson acts has the middle man for Mills and Burroughs escape. His son, Jimmy breaks his leg evading P.C. Skinner. Tommy decides to give up the prison escape to aid his son. Unfortunately Mills and Burroughs have already escaped.

With Mills and Burroughs on the run, Tommy Jefferson gives up the middle man. Goss and Stone pay Marsh a visit. Unnerved he sends his muscle, Gerry to shoot Jefferson. Gerry also attacks Mills girlfriend, Fran but PC Quilley rescues her.

Margo Tate sets up her mark, magistrate Peter Forbes, at Orchard Hotel. Recognising con, Bernie Spencer they agree to go to Forbes empty home and split the spoils. Spencer rings the Argos so he can read about the robbery the following day.

Bernie fences the stolen goods while Margot books a holiday to Tenerife. When Bernie returns, Margot is not planning on paying her hotel bill. PC Skinner spots Margot as Betty Howson, from Burnley. Bernie rings the Argos about her arrest.

Frank Pearson sets off to work and sees Mrs. Mullen unconscious. Two employees of Gatehouse Metals, Clay and Burgess then leave her home. When police visit him he denies the incident. Mrs. Whitby informs the police, Pearson was a witness.

Caught in a lie, Frank Pearson is taken into custody and shown a mug book. PC Skinner connects Pearson to Clay and Burgess at Gatehouse Metals but he failed to mention either. Clay warns him off and Willow Building residents turn on him.

A silver plate, a chalice, two candlesticks and 200 bible's are stolen from St. Saviours. Nogan reports that he found them hidden at his missionary. Farson takes the blame but when the bible's are discovered still burning he is released.

Two more churches have been robbed but only bible's stolen. PC Quilley is called to the library when a homeless man refuses to leave. He reports he was interested in the church robberies and also stays at Nogan's missionary.

A car crash on the motorway takes a sinister turn when police find a bullet embedded in the back seat. Driver Norman Leakey points the finger at love rival Jock Bannion. When Bannion finds out he visits Leakey and takes his belt to him.

The motorway sniper shoots at another car this time killing the driver. Snout, a local tramp has a hide out on the embankment and gives a description. PC's Newcombe and Skinner are placed in the hide out to wait for the shooter to return.

Copper cable worth £400 is stolen from the railway. Scrap metal dealer John Brewer tells rival Sid Greenough he has the police in his pocket. In a sweep, Greenough is found with stolen axle bearings. Angry he reports Brewer for corruption.

Sid Greenough is on trial for the stolen axle bearings. His lawyer Bendoe wrong foots PC Quilley when he asks about Joe Brewer paying bribes. A watching Brewer is livid with Greenough. His joke has rebounded on him so exacts revenge.

John Meaker reports that his wife Freda is ninety minutes late returning from collecting payments for her Clothing Club. Sgt Lynch can only warn officers to be on the look out. Next morning a woman finds a pair legs stuffed in her dustbin.

Supt. Jackson leads the murder inquiry but officers only discover of a woman's head. Newtown police go door to door looking at the names in Mrs. Meeker's collection book. PC Quilley sneaks a patch of blood exposed by Jennings decorating.

Bill Corley's gang beat up a lorry driver for not paying a tax for parking on the Ramp. Tramp Doc. Parker witnesses it while hiding. Corley attempts to intimidate Pharmacist supplier Stringey into handing over a box of prescription drugs.

Doc. Parker is saved by Zed Victor One, attempting to escape Corley. He is put a cell for his own safety but Wynne is sent to intimate him. Parker is put to work, but becomes horrified, as a former doctor, that Corley is now selling drugs.

Ethel Greenall reports her husband Jack missing. She tells Sgt. Lynch, she is a widower who married Jack six weeks ago, at Registary Office but has no photo's of him. Newcombe and Skinner attend a car crash where the man has £725 in cash.

Jack Greenall is too ill to talk so Sgt. Lynch begins to investigate him. He learns Greenhall has a record as a con artist and been using Patsy Cartwright's dating agency. Ethel discovers Jack has taken her savings but she forgives him.

Quilley and Cameron stop farm hand Brian Bennett for speeding. Seemingly slow he only talks about Sylivia. Claiming he punched her and had to bury her at the gun range but there are no signs of digging just a shallow grave in the woods.

When Brian's old toys are dug up he gives up the name of Sylvia Ann Jenkins. Quilley discovers that she was last seen in 1945. Police diggers begin to recover bones from the site and Brian remembers seeing his father punching his mother.

Sheila Ashton takes her son, to a bus terminus to act as a decoy, while steals £15 from Mrs. Gibbs handbag. Ashton has long record and spotted fleeing the scene. PC Quilley tracks her down to her home and acts violently when arrested.

Insp. Goss becomes jealous of his wife's newly found social life. Mary Chadwick has introduced Jean to her 'brother' Roy, to finalise the deal. Roy doesn't have the heart to cheat Jean. In Mary's frustration she telephones the Goss home.

Three people die in a boarding house fire, at Glenmore Gardens. One man can't be identified and only a cigarette case inscribed with "To Love Ray - Love Ann" to go on. PC Skinner learns he was Raymond Pritchard and he had a bright future.

Fletcher and Banks make plans to break into Lipman's warehouse. They are reliant on 50-year-old Frank Livesey climbing a two a storey drain pipe to gain entry. Sgt. Stone spots rivals Fletcher and Banks and suspect they are planning a job.

Sgt. Stone learns that Lipman's warehouse has been broke into and believes it's Fletcher and Banks. A warrant allows a search of their home. Fletcher is convinced Livesey has grassed rather than youngster Franny Jones and wants revenge.
