Episode 1
Joe Blackshaw is a petty thief who picks up Bits An' Bats from local building sites. Sgt. Stone is investigating stolen copper, so when pieces are found Blackshaw looks guilty. Meanwhile Tommy Hale is helping Ma McGann get some revenge.
Episode 2
Workers laying telephone cable by Oak House Farm discover a skeleton. Scientists are unable to date it beyond 75 years which pleases Sgt. Stone. The village gossips start talking of murder so Insp. Lynch decides to do his own research.
Episode 3
A six stone barrel of mercury is stolen from Symonds Switch Gear. John Sullivan and Reginald Rooty are arrested following a tip off from work mate Terry Armstrong. Det. Sgt. Miller believes Armstrong planned the robbery but can't prove it.
Episode 4
Insp. Lynch and D.C. Braithwaite are waiting for John Henry Clayton to arrive on the last train to Seaport. When Alec Quilley gets off the train he tells them he's still on board. So the three jump on the train, now heading for Manchester.
Episode 5
DC Skinner has his eye on a young amateur footballer for a series of car thefts in Seaport. But is he pushing the issue too hard for his superiors' liking?

A suicide is discovered at a local allotment. DS Haggar and DC Bowker trace him to nearby housing estate. But has something more nefarious happened?
Episode 7
It's a reversal of roles for A Hard Day's Night double act John Junkin and Norman Rossington when they play seasoned villains carrying out a break and entry robbery. Senior villain Vernon has a gippy tummy - underling Sharkey provides suitable sandwiches.
Episode 8
An old man is viciously assaulted on his doorstep, and Render and Braithwaite are called out to assist. Thus proceeds a chase across town and into the country.
Episode 9
During a routine police line up, Inspector Lynch spots a volunteer, who has a familiar face. He later discovers that he is Colin Wilson, 15-year-old runaway now calling himself Williams. Lynch attempts to get to bottom of why he returned.
Episode 10
PC Quilley is guarding a coach works subject to a sit-in by recently laid off employees. Things seem peaceful enough, until a recently escaped borstal boy gets inside and becomes involved.
Episode 11
Yates finds a man badly beaten in an alley. It all seems cut and dried as a man running away from the scene is caught. But it's more complicated than that, as the night's events come to light.
Episode 12
Newtown's night life is added to with a new club, but it's having security issues due to overzealous door staff. Meanwhile, a local petty thief distracts the police by stealing clothes just across the road.
Episode 13
It's just before Christmas, but festive spirit is less less than evident as a woman is found badly beaten in her own home. She's strangely evasive, though, so DS Haggar decides to push things along.
Episode 14
A pregnant housewife spots a man stalking her house. But the man has a past that both concerns her and the officers called to deal with the situation.

Inspector Lynch receives a tip-off from a friend and finds himself in the middle of a delicate enquiry where his loyalties are divided
Episode 16
Young parents Tommy and Karen Kelly are both attracting the attention of the law. Tommy is nicked quickly, but Karen tries to get her injured baby out of hospital. Inspector Lynch has to negotiate a tricky path for all concerned.
Episode 17
As if a shotgun standoff at a local farm isn't complicated enough, Lynch and Quilley have to sort out the awkward relationships of all concerned.

A routine car crash turns out to be more complicated than usual for PC Quilley and WPC Howarth. There's a connection between motorists Liz and Danny, but it'll take some teasing out.

A mystery call out for noise down the docks perplexes Yates, and he's stuck there with DS Haggar and an irritating PC. They shoot horses, don't they?

A police informer is found badly beaten on a rubbish tip, whilst Bert Lych waits for him in a local pub. Who was responsible, and what is the connection to a rough local pub?

Inspector Lynch is asked to help out with irregular dwellers in condemned properties. Meanwhile, PC Quilley meets an unwelcome former colleague.
Episode 22
The standoff outside the squat continues and relations between the two sides are poisoned by the assault on PC Quilley. Meanwhile, the tearaway suspect is on the loose around town.
Episode 23
Yvonne James tells D. C. Skinner about a Post Office job her husband is taking part in. Insp. Lynch is asked check on whether Skinner is involved with Yvonne. When the job is called off she is determined that the robbery should go ahead.
Episode 24
Quilley is up for promotion, but personal circumstances may hinder his path. At the same time, a troublesome thief is causing him severe problems.

A fool and his money are soon parted- all the sooner if you don't know how much the money is worth
Episode 26
PC Render gets permission to bring vagrant, Dougal Blair for his own safety. He has suffered a minor head injury from a stone thrown by teenagers. Next day Blair is found dead in his cell and the night-watch become under investigation.
Episode 27
PC Quilley arrests Richard Joiner and Gordon Lyle has possible car thieves. The pair have come up from London to buy seven terrace houses. DC Skinner wants to know how two former jailbirds can accumulate thirty houses in just three years.
Episode 28
Skinner seems to be becoming distant from his working partners, but is he not distant enough from suspects?
Episode 29
The inquiry begins into the shootings of Joe Skinner and Roy Hurst, at Dewerton farm. Supt. Holiday wants to know how D.S Haggar discovered the Hurst's real identity. Joanne Hurst attempts to distance herself from her husband's crimes.
Episode 30
Quilley has started behaving oddly. Sgt. Haggar is suspended so refuses to pass information, he has discovered on Skinner's killing, to the Murder Squad. Insp. Lynch believes Joanne Hurst is no longer in danger and stops her protection.

A series of break-ins have some peculiar traits. Haggar thinks that an old lag just out of gaol may be responsible. But what is the significance of a missing schoolboy, and why is the MO of the mystery criminal familiar?
