The murder of antiquarian Hubertus Weissinger and a missing painting titled "The Tears of the Madonna" present detectives Benedikt Beissl, Jerry Paulsen, and Sophia Strasser with a perplexing case. Initially, neither a motive nor any suspects can be found. When, of all times, the criminal Tarek Kristo, with whom Jerry Paulsen has a score to settle from his Hamburg days, checks into a hotel in Berchtesgaden, it seems no coincidence to him. Disguised as hotel guests, he and his colleague Sophia Strasser follow Kristo. Thus, they remain unaware that Detective Benedikt Beissl is being held captive by the young Anton Hauser in a mountain cabin during his investigation. Beissl's wife Elisabeth and daughter Eva wait for him in vain at the Salzburg Opera, unaware of the deadly danger he is in. When art expert Dr. When Stalz appears and the mysterious older lady Ellen Lerner and her grandson Daniel move in with her, the case takes on unexpected dimensions and becomes a struggle for guilt and forgiveness for all involved.

The once-celebrated actress Gundi Sommer throws a lavish farewell party to mark the impending demolition of the villa where she lives with her sister Betty. Police officer Max Ruffer, whose band is providing the music, notices the tension between the two sisters. The next morning, Max discovers Betty Sommer lifeless in her wheelchair. Stabbed with a letter opener, as Dr. Hartmann soon determines. The barman quickly suspects Gundi Sommer. He remembers her killing someone in a film using exactly that method, and he also sees a motive: without her sister's villa, Gundi would now be practically homeless. Jerry Paulsen, on the other hand, focuses his suspicions on Betty's caregiver, Sally Bohse. Sally had been upset about a poor performance review and runs a successful Instagram account with Gundi, which was a thorn in Gundi's side. The Beissl household's curiosity to finally meet Ava's new boyfriend quickly fades when news arrives of the death of funeral assistant Andrei Radu (29). The Romanian had been helping prepare the bodies at the Demel funeral home since the senior owner's death. Now he himself has been bludgeoned to death. With an urn, as Beissl correctly suspects. Suspicion immediately falls on Andrei's girlfriend, Liana, who arrived in Berchtesgaden a few days ago and revealed a secret about Andrei. This also puts Romi Demel at the center of the investigation. She is the sister of the funeral home's junior owner, Vincent Demel, and is only working there temporarily for her brother. Who tried to kill Anna Willinger? The young mother is discovered by a jogger one morning on a park bench in the spa gardens with a head wound. She had left her six-week-old son, Oscar, with her neighbor, police officer Max. He can tell his colleagues little about Anna while she is placed in a medically induced coma at the hospital. All he knows is that the neighbor was planning to emigrate to Australia and was about to start a job in Melbourne. Meanwhile, social worker Irina Müller is lovingly caring for the baby. Sophia Strasser and Jerry's first suspect is the child's father, Rolf Brandl. The car mechanic is married, but his wife, Melanie, has no real motive, as she was aware of the affair. Beissl has entirely different worries: After switching phone providers, the house is without internet, and neither he nor Elli can be reached. In desperation, Beissl borrows Franzi's phone. This only creates more confusion. Another lead points to Anna's former employer, tax consultant Adam Kowalczyk, who has more to hide than he initially admits. His client, Daniela Kracht, who happens to be present, and her husband make no secret of their desire to have children. A mysterious woman causes a stir at the hospital as she tries to reach the victim. Sophia and Jerry only get on the right track, however, when they rummage through the victim's trash. They are greatly surprised. Beissl and his wife are also in for a surprise when they return home to find an unexpected guest making a lot of noise in the kitchen.
