The Unit is a covert team of U.S. Special Forces operatives who carry out extremely dangerous missions, from political assassinations to rescuing hostages, for the Army and the government. Counterterrorism is their specialty.\ The explosive drama is as unflinching in its depiction of war and its startling impact on the home front as one would expect from gritty playwright David Mamet ("Glengarry Glen Ross," "Speed-the-Plow"), who created the series, based on "Inside Delta Force" written by retired Special Ops officer Eric Haney. But the series isn't all action-adventure. "The Unit" carefully balances its global life-and-death missions with absorbing accounts of life at home, where wives deal daily with uncertainty and loneliness, unable to tell anyone about their involvement in the highly secretive group. Col. Tom Ryan (Robert Patrick) is the Unit's commander and Sgt. Major Jonas Blane (Dennis Haysbert) heads up the five-man squad entrusted with carrying out the assignments in the field. Adding to the complexity of the first season is Ryan's affair with Tiffy Gerhardt (Abby Brammell), the wife of burnt-out veteran Mack Gerhardt (Max Martini), who is under Ryan's command. Also, new recruit Bob Brown (Scott Foley), an accomplished sharpshooter and ace pilot, quickly adjusts to life in the Unit, but his opinionated wife Kim (Audrey Marie Anderson) struggles with her restricted life on base and bucks the Army's authority. It's up to Jonas' resourceful wife Molly (Regina Taylor) to bring Kim under control. But Molly, usually levelheaded, needs help, too, when she risks her life savings in a lucrative real-estate investment. As for the Unit members, their first-season exploits include capturing a terrorist in Africa, rescuing missionaries in Indonesia, assassinating a defense minister in Afghanistan, capturing a war criminal in Siberia, and bringing down a drug lord in Brazil.

Back at the base, Bob's wife adjusts to the shock of not being able to live off base and learning that her husband is part of the team trying to rescue the airline hostages.

Also, Ryan orders Mack to take some time off alone, which doesn't sit well with Tiffy.

It's feared that the Russians intend to sell the Iranians materials that will enable them to develop a nuclear weapon. Back at the base, Tom tries to end his affair with Tiffy but she refuses to listen to him. Later, Kim sees Tiffy enter a motel room and contemplates what to do about what she saw.

Jonas and his crew fly to Afghanistan to assassinate a defense minister, but the mission is compromised when a team helicopter goes down in enemy territory. Jonas decides on a rescue attempt that could mean aborting the mission. Back at the base, Molly confronts an old friend and retired Unit veteran, now paralyzed, about his addiction to painkillers, and Kim tries to land a job at a radio station.

SERE

Jonas and his team participate in a SERE (Survive, Evade, Resist, Escape) drill in which they are taken to an Army camp and treated as prisoners of war. Unfortunately, the drill is run by a doctor who intends to push the men to their limit, even if it means putting their lives in danger. Back at the base, Kim struggles with her faith in God and Molly tries to help her find it again.

The Unit members travel to Brazil to stop a drug lord who is now dealing weapons after getting his hands on a crate of surface-to-air missiles. The mission is complicated by the fact that the dealer's guards are mostly teen boys and Jonas's crew doesn't want to harm them. Back at the base, Kim stirs up trouble at the family-readiness group when she tries to bring about changes, and Williams' girlfriend reacts strongly when she discovers what his real job is in the Army.

Meanwhile, Molly attempts to recover the $40,000 that was stolen from her, and Bob is faced with a dilemma when a Unit widow insists that he sleep with her.

The Unit is called in to consult after a bomb is discovered in an Atlanta office building. When Jonas inspects the device, he concludes that it may be nuclear. A note indicates that the bomb will go off in 24 hours unless $5 million is paid. In Cancún, Mexico, Bob and Kim take a vacation, but Kim soon learns that Bob is really on a mission and that he needs her help to catch a spy who is giving top-secret files to the Chinese government.

The Wall

The Unit helps the U.N. capture a war criminal in Serbia. The man's wife is killed during the initial attack to bring him in and he seeks revenge. Back at home, Jonas learns that Molly lost their savings and confronts her about it, and Tiffy considers divorcing Mack after she reads a letter indicating that he has re-enlisted. Also, Kim learns some disturbing news about a fellow Unit member's wife.
