Dave Johnson (Max Greenfield), a friendly and warm professional conflict negotiator from the Midwest, finds himself moving to Los Angeles after his wife, Gemma (Beth Behrs), gets a new job. Now, he must contend with his new neighbor Calvin Butler (Cedric the Entertainer), who is suspicious of outsiders. Calvin's wife, Tina (Tichina Arnold), however, is more than happy to have new neighbors come in, while the couple's unemployed older son, Malcolm (Sheaun McKinney), believes that Dave is a kindred soul. Now, Dave realizes that forging a connection with Calvin is the final step in order to finally settle into their new neighborhood.
