The Heck family have a lot of milestones and growing pains in the seventh season of this family sitcom. Sue (Eden Sher) starts her first year of college, something she's looked forward to all her life, but not everything goes the way she expected. Dental assistant and supermom Frankie (Patricia Heaton) turns 50, but it seems to be more difficult for her husband Mike (Neil Flynn) than it is for her. She begins to worry when Mike displays some strange behavior – including buying into one of his brother's crazy ideas. Brick (Atticus Shaffer) starts to be more independent, leading Frankie to feel like she's no longer needed and Axl (Charlie McDermott) goes through a transition period as tries to find a place of his own and starts a new job.
