Miss O'Keefe confronts Lizzie in her home, ending in a physical conflict, a surprising arrest, and a "shocking" ending.

Siringo tries to get some information from Skipjack on the whereabouts of Spencer Cavanaugh and his connection to Lizzie. Isabelle Denforth's husband gets a taste of his own medicine for once. Siringo offers Isabelle a way out of Fall River. Lizzie locates the body of Spencer, eliminating anything that Siringo may have had on her. Two more people in Fall River meet their demise.

Siringo is put on trial and and falsely convicted of both Spencer's and Isabel's murder. Siringo quietly vows to get back at Lizzie. Meanwhile, Lizzie's plan to turn Trotwood against Emma by revealing the existence of Emma's out-of-wedlock dead baby fails, so she arranges his murder with Skipjack's help. A devastated Emma decides to leave town. Lizzie then murders Skipjack to tie up any loose ends. Also, Siringo escapes while en route to his execution, and shows up at Maplecroft to kill Lizzie for framing him. He kills Hilliard who tries to defend her and nearly succeeds in strangling Lizzie to death, but Emma appears and stops him... with an ax.

After disposing of Siringo and Hilliard's dead bodies, both Borden sisters flee from Fall River to hide out in the snow-covered small town of Cumberland, Maine. Six months later, Lizzie has reinvented herself by taking a new name as Annabelle Grimke and a new job as a prim schoolteacher. Emma, traumatized by Siringo's demise at her own hands, sits in a catatonic state at a nearby sanitarium where she is tended to by a not-so-trustworthy doctor who uses Emma for his latest electro-shock therapy. A pair of local murders committed by one of her teenage students jeopardizes Lizzie's new identity, and the sins of Emma's doctor reawaken her. Meanwhile, Siringo's Pinkerton associates, Mr. Horn and Mr. Masterson, travel to Fall River to look for Siringo and pick up Lizzie's trail.

Having escaped from the sanitarium, Emma seeks refuge with the wealthy but evil Trotwood family in Boston, and Lizzie is not far behind. When Lizzie does find Emma, she meets her match in the form of the cold and imperious Aideen Trotwood as Horn and Masterson arrive in town in search of the Bordens. Lizzie manipulates the Trotwoods to get Emma back and sets in motion a plan to eliminate them as well as the two Pinkerton men, but the final results of her actions are not what she expected or hoped for.
