A late-night talk show, co-created by the producers David Letterman and Peter Lassally. The veteran news anchor Tom Snyder served as the show's original host from January 1995 until March 1999. The show featured an intimate interview format with no studio audience present, similar to Snyder's "Tomorrow" show from the 1970s. Snyder frequently gave extended conversational monologues during the show. While Snyder was away on vacation, the show featured guest hosts, such as Jon Stewart and Janeane Garofalo. In 1998, Snyder was reportedly displeased with the negotiations over the renewal of his contract and voluntarily asked for its termination. In 1999, he was replaced by the former sports anchor Craig Kilborn.
