Darryl Hughley, who owns a vending-machine business, moves his family out of South Central L.A. to West Hills, a predominantly-white neighborhood within the San Fernando Valley. Darryl and his family try to adjust living in an all-white area while trying to not forget where they came from and who they are. Darryl and his wife Yvonne befriend their new neighbors Sally and Dave, and find that Dave is very nearly Darryl's polar-opposite. The story has many racial themes that are usually comedic as Darryl makes fun of other races, especially his white and Korean neighbors.
