The seventh and final season of the legal drama opens with Alicia (Julianna Margulies) trying to revive her career after rejecting a proposal from Canning (Michael J. Fox) to come work with him. She's working as a bar attorney in bond court while also trying to find her own clients, but is ultimately being used by Canning himself as a pawn in his fight against Diane (Christine Baranski) and Cary (Matt Czuchry) from her old firm. Peter (Chris Noth) decides to launch his campaign for vice president, hires Eli (Alan Cumming) as his chief of staff and asks Alicia to help him; things don't go very smoothly, however, and he ends up with a new chief of staff, Ruth Eastman (Margo Martindale), while Alicia and Eli start working on their own parallel campaign. Rounding up the team are two new entries: Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo), a fellow attorney who befriends and ultimately partners with Alicia; and Jason Crouse (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), an investigator with whom Alicia starts a valuable professional relationship.
