The Good Old Days
A re-creation of the Music Hall variety shows that were popular in the late Victorian and the Edwardian periods (late 1800s and early 1900s). Entertainers performed musical, comedy, magic and recitation acts on stage in Edwardian costume, in some cases appearing as famous Edwardian music hall performers such as Vesta Tilley. Even the audience was dressed in authentic 1900s costumes. The show always ended with the entire cast and the audience singing a rousing rendition of "Down at the Old Bull and Bush".

There is no plot; this series is rather a re-creation of old time British music hall shows. The audience is in Victorian/Edwardian costume--made or rented by the audience members themselves as part of the fun of participating. The shows were staged in the Leeds Varieties theatre and ran from 1953 to 1983 with turns by over 2000 performers during that time. On You Tube, you can see a very luscious Eartha Kitt having the audience eating out of the palm of her hands; John Inman in fairy costume is memorable, and each show is likely to have one performer from other, less bawdy, venues.
