Three weeks before, watched by the Mob, Mitch is defending Judd Grafton, accused of murdering a local thug: Judd's been operating a casino at a bar owned by his friend John. The thug crippled John when he and Judd wouldn't cut him in on the casino's profits. Judd's plea is self defense, but prosecution evidence mounts. Meanwhile, Mitch's case against the makers of a faulty stent has hit a wall, and Ray visits Sarah Holt in jail and lets himself into her apartment: he makes a couple of crucial observations.
