Interns John "J.D." Dorian (Zach Braff), Christopher Turk (Donald Faison) and Elliot Reid (Sarah Chalke) get their feet wet at a Seattle hospital, which is home to an oddball group of employees and patients. J.D. finds a reluctant mentor in the sarcastic Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley) and a love interest in the spastic Elliot. Turk, meanwhile, falls for no-nonsense nurse Carla Espinosa (Judy Reyes). Overseeing all of the insanity is the seemingly heartless chief of medicine, Dr. Kelso (Ken Jenkins), while a mysterious unnamed janitor (Neil Flynn) with a grudge against J.D. keeps his own tally of the goings on at the hospital.
