Season 4 of this warm family dramedy takes a serious turn as Adam (Peter Krause) and Kristina (Monica Potter) deal with Kristina's cancer diagnosis while also adjusting to the college-bound Haddie's (Sarah Ramos) absence from their household. Sarah (Lauren Graham), meanwhile, faces similar uncertainty about the future when her cantankerous new boss (guest star Ray Romano) throws a kink into her relationship with Mark (Jason Ritter). Also entering new relationship territory are Julia (Erika Christensen) and Joel (Sam Jaeger), who struggle to help Victor (Xolo Mariduena) adapt to his new role in their family; Amber (Mae Whitman), who begins a romance with a traumatized veteran (guest star Matt Lauria); and Crosby (Dax Shepard) and Jasmine (Joy Bryant), who continue to face new challenges, both as parents and as a couple.
