Walter Gilman, a college student, rents a very cheap room in an old house, but it proves to be no bargain. One of his neighbors prays loudly and bangs on the furniture. Another neighbor, a single mother, issues a blood-curdling scream soon after his arrival. It turns out that she and her baby are being attacked by a persistent rat. Walter plugs up the rat hole, but they still aren't safe. Walter is having nightmares - dreams that seem to have been inspired by the first neighbor, who warns him of a witch and her familiar: a rat with a human face. Walter soon suspects that the witch of his nightmare is real and that she is going to force him to kill the baby.

Without any other lead, Faraday begins to believe there's truth to the legend.

This lost film is considered magic and cursed, and has been presented only once to an audience at the Sitges Festival, driving the people insane and causing bloodshed in the theater. The director, the crew, and everybody involved in its production seemingly have died since. Kirby accepts the assignment because he owes $200,000 to his father-in-law, who blames Kirby for the death of his daughter Annie. Bellinger shows him a souvenir from the film in his basement, a chained angel that had his wings torn off in the movie. Kirby travels to France to meet a contact and has glimpses of his beloved Annie, initiating his journey to hell.

One night, while preparing to spend the night near a cemetery, an old man named Wolfram offers him shelter in his home, telling him it would be foolish to stay near the dead. Haeckel accepts the invitation and meets Wolfram's young wife, Elise. He feels seduced by the beautiful young woman but soon discovers the couple has a dark secret.
