Thousands of cooks from across the country apply, but only the Top contenders are asked to audition for the MASTERCHEF CANADA judges. Each participant presents their signature dish in hopes of earning a coveted white apron. Only the most talented and creative home cooks will move forward to the MASTERCHEF CANADA Kitchen. Each week, the MASTERCHEF CANADA Judges inspire the home cooks to grow and evolve, pushing them toward culinary greatness. Internationally-acclaimed chefs and restaurateurs Michael Bonacini (co-owner of the Oliver & Bonacini restaurant empire), Claudio Aprile (chef/owner of the celebrated Origin restaurants) and Alvin Leung (owner of the Michelin-starred Bo Innovation in Hong Kong) are the firm-but-fair mentors who take these amateurs on a journey from home cook to haute cuisine.

Masterchef Canada Invitational; Home Cooks, Your Roots Are Showing

Eighteen home cooks from across Canada are invited to compete by one of the three MasterChef Canada judges, each group of six is given a different protein challenge and their dishes will be evaluated by the other two judges. The top twelve competitors will earn their white aprons. In the second hour the twelve home cooks face a root vegetable mystery box, followed by an elimination challenge for nine of them which features nine different proteins, two home cooks will be eliminated.

The top ten home cooks face their first team challenge creating an appetizer and entree for 121 wedding guest reflecting the couples Caribbean background, the elimination challenge is to create both a sweet and a savory Cheese Cake.

Tastes Like Teen Spirit

The Mystery Box Challenge for the home cooks is to elevate a favorite dish from their teenage years, while the Elimination Challenge is to prepare a dish incorporating three spices chosen from randomly selected boxes

The Top 5 home cooks get a taste of home from a giant Mystery Box that features their families drop by for a surprise visit, and then the cooks take a chance on tropical fruit dish flavors by randomly spinning a wheel.

The Top 4 contestants arrive at First Nations Canoe Museum in Peterborough where they compete in a team challenge inspired by Canada's food roots with the losing team facing the toughest dessert baking replication Pressure Test to date.

In the Top 3 semifinals, Olympic Ice Dancer Tessa Virtue joins the 3 judges for a one final fire-and-ice themed Mystery Box Challenge and in a cheesy elimination test, the 3 semifinalists fight for a spot in the finale.
