Wed, Aug 12, 200944 mins
Bear is helicopter-dropped in Lapland, where natives can only survive traditionally thanks to the perfectly adapted reindeer. The Samen allowed him exceptionally to hunt and kill a wild one, but the self-built trap requires extra effort to kill it and pulling the prized fat meat, hastily cut before it freezes rock-hard, on a self-made sledge trough the thick snow and across traitorous crevasses in glacier country is too exhausting even for one worthy to be called Bear. Even with fire and food, spending the Siberian night in e self-dug trench is chilling to the bone. Finding an abandoned wolverine hunters cabin (those are now protected) he improvises good use for the cabin debris and puts on skis with self-made clamps, finds the traction insufficient but improves that by letting his strategic load of urine freeze under the skis. He risks descending an impregnable slope by exposing a young birch tree. He strips down to cross an icy river and para-glides over a frozen lake on his way to the desolate coast. After constructing a primitive, alas leaky raft from beached-up fishery waste he harvest from a floating seal-corpse the fat for a signal fire on the island where he must carefully wait to spot and haul a passing ship.

Bear is helicopter-dropped in Western Sahara, a disputed part of the largest sand desert. Advancing there means balancing energy, transpiration and supplies, so even his urine may not go to waste. He fails in catching a juicy lizard but settles for a scorpion in a Berber ruin and risks his neck climbing down and up an abandoned near-dry well by self-made acacia beams to dig for mud moisture. Bear reaches the coast, climbs down a wiggly cliff crevasse and swims to a shipwreck, where he fishes for octopus, which must be eaten super-fresh, so the spastic tentacles cling in his throat. After improvising a raft to return by the flood tide, he constructs a predator-proof shelter in and from acacia with a night-lasting fire, dining on ghastly on-site mixed-bugs-mince. Finally catching a rare passing truck provides his way out.
Episode 15

Bear's greatest stunts include several helicopter droppings and daring climbs, descents and escapes, like running for a train entering a tunnel. His survival techniques also include eating/drinking utterly disgusting, albeit natural substances, like juicy grubs, various insects, his own urine and even the liquid from camel and elephant dun. He also guts animal carcasses and uses skins like a camel as sand storm shelter or builds a nest too high for nocturnal jaguars to eat him. He also demonstrates skills like making fire and gets starkers in polar frost to keep his cloths dry while swimming across a stream.
