US Navy Afghanistan veteran Thomas Magnum refuses to stand by as Honolulu PD Detective Tanaka requires in the case of the kidnapping, and murder, of his former war comrade Sebastian Nuzo. Instead he teams up with fellow veterans Orville 'Rick' Wright, a sharpshooter, and Theodore 'TC' Calvin. Navy base captain Buck Green reluctantly shares classified information on the case Nuzo was involved in, about Iraqi front-stole gold bars. Magnum's usually hostile loco landlady, MI6-discharged Juliett Higgins, respects his corps spirit enough to grumpily help out beyond safely putting up fresh widow Lara and pre-teen son Jake Nuzo.

Magnum is hired by a fisherman to locate a tuna worth 350k that was stolen from him before it spoils. Magn7m learns a man who worked for the fisherman who was laid off stole it. He says his family's been kidnapped and the kidnappers want the fish. Magnum offers to help. Once they get the man's family back , they learn the kidnappers didn't want to fish but something*that was in it. Obviously it was used to smuggle something , Higgins thinks it could be information probably on a flash drive. Magnumdecides to find out who they are and enlists Higgins' help.

As a way to pay off some poker debts, Magnum takes from a senior colleague the case (for 40% minus expenses) of a man whose fiancee's grave hit and run accident shows she underwent extensive plastic surgery as crowning part of an identity change. Even after the client cancels the job, Magnum works out why: she was involved in a jeweler's robbery and has a daughter, whom he and Higgins take in as protection, while smoking out the killer, in the process winning the respect -not sympathy- of new police detective Gordon Katsumoto.

Magnum was hired as security consult by Higgins' super-rich friend to test the protection of his valuable art collection. He chooses a grand gala party to prove the holes and suggests remedies, but shortly after someone copies his method to murder the billionaire. Magnums is arrested as prime suspect and must orchestrate proving his innocence by catching the real criminal, who may have hacked his expert report.

TC implores Magnum, who assists him coach an American football little league team, to help shy autochthonous Hawaiian player Makoa Iona's ex-con addict father Honi, who was caught disposing of the weapon used in a murder without other suspect according to police detective Gordon Katsumoto. While Higgins and Kumu 'babysit' Makoa, who runs rightly fearing social services may assign him to a foster home, Magnum's investigations, including doping-suspended boxer Wade Steuben, only seems to dig a deeper hole for Honi. When Thomas drops the case after doing his legal duty of disclosing incriminating evidence to the police and he runs out of alternative suspects, TC cancels their friendship, so he informally snoops on, reconsidering his sympathy for the victim's widow and goes after another woman.

Rich, dementing Reginald hires Magnum to check out if the letter asking him for financial support is really from his first love Elizabeth Cole, which he presumed dead for decades. Thomas and Higgins duly mistrust the claim, he stumbles into the dangerous plot of her true fate. Rick and T.C. meet fellow veteran Kenny 'Shammy' Shamberg, who feels suicidal being condemned to a wheel chair, but act as a substitute will to live and advocates of the surfer way of life as front-line trauma therapy.

Not trusting HPD detective Gordon Katsumoto will close the case, they pursue it against formal instructions. Having found out the victim was an FBI witness protection program agent, Magnum too lands in very-professional-killer danger trying to save the original murder target.

The girl is uncooperative and claims to have seen nothing, but opens up after Tomas gets Higgings to give her private "yoga therapy", allowing team-Thomas and the police to find the holding spot, an abandoned war bunker. She then remembers a vital clue about the abductor.

Rick begs for Thomas's discrete help: he organized an illegal high-roller poker night to raise money for foxy friend Toni's brother's medical bills, but they got robed by masked men. Gangster lord Pascale Parata demands his cash back "'or else", the police can't be informed. Rick also turns to his jailed "second father" (Ice Pick) in vain. Magnum mobilizes his gang to trace the loot and identify the informer.

Magnum is hired by Katya Kudjakova to find her missing cousin, fellow recent Russian immigrant Sergei. Rick helps locate him through his favorite Russian restaurant Orel, but that also exposes Thomas to two Russian goons hunting down Sergei. While TC's helicopter helps them escape, Higgings finds Katya is impersonated by a ruthless FSB (ex-KGB) agent, who takes her and Kumu hostage. Sergei, whom they demand as ransom, makes a run for it, so Magnum must urgently catch and convince him somehow to cooperate.

A bail bondsman engages all bounty hunters and private investigators on Ohau to compete for a fortune, racing against the clock to deliver timely in court "escaped" murder suspect Skip Jenkins. It's Magnum's best shot at paying off his debts, which now has gotten the Ferrari sequestered on account of garage repair debt. Thomas gets teamed up with Luther H. Gillis and his apprentice Willa Stone, who betrays them to go for the huge prize alone by taking off with the only lead, the suspect's laptop. Magnum and mates still get him at the murder site, but believing he's trying to prove his innocence, Thomas risks his near-sure reward for justice.

To help Higging, Magnum hands an easy infidelity check case over to Rick, who unfortunately mistakes his client's fiancee for a mistress, yet helps out everyone except themselves. Thomas joins Juliet and former MI6 colleague Ian Pryce, who found the Internet trail, after years, of the mystery hit man Viper, the murderer of her true love and spy partner Richard. It leads to Taiwanese consulate official Jing Kuan, but the fiend is on to them all and detective Gordon Katsumoto in no mod to help cover up their diplomatic incident, impersonating kidnapped reception guest scientist David Gomez and his partner to intrude the compound only to become murder suspects.

Thomas is hired posthumously, by video, to solve the presumed murder of Dennis Sterling, who includes generous cash payment. The police found his fatal car accident and ravine fall not the result of a sabotage, satisfying his sister Kalea, who ascribed his fears to lingering, medicated schizophrenia. Magnum however gets an unofficial autopsy, showing Dennis was poisoned by delivered meal. Even nearly catching an intruder at his fearfully-locked-up apartment doesn't convince detective Gordon Katsumoto to share the case with Thomas and Higgings, but the vandalized room and a prison link inspire them to guess for the surprising motive and trap the latest intruder.

By the time Magnum's friends worked out he was abducted, he escaped overpowering the kidnapper who forced him to indicate the spot where the boat with part of Saddam's stolen gold was sunk. Higgins now helps Thomas trace his abductor, only to find him fatally stabbed. The trail leads to Hannah, the CIA agent who stole his heart only to leave him and his rot in Taliban captivity. She now heads a heavily arms goons-gang, engaging in a battle for the hidden remainder of the gold, yet spares Thomas's life without clarifying her motives, and gets away after bloody failure.

Trying to wriggle out of jury duty, Magnum convinces the judge that he can't make up his mind in good conscience without investigating a case professionally himself. Higgings helps Magnum work out Roland has been dating via an app, without telling Karen, so he sets a trap in case it's the work of a black widow, posing as a desirable prey.

The Dobermans having dug up a bone Higgins realizes to be human leads to Magnum reporting a possible murder to Katsumoto, who is quickly taken off the case as he recognizes the victim as his former maverick HPD mentor and partner. Thomas insists to help out as a civilian can't be taken off. They concentrate on a female corpse found nearby, identified 'informally' by the cahoot forensic examiner as long-missing school girl, one of his last cold cases he had been going trough on retirement, and the key to a tragic plot. Meanwhile Rick and T.C. are hired as driver-bodyguards for an undercover agent desperate to connect with the now adult daughter she abandoned to safety as a child.

Magnum and Higgins board Robin's yacht for a pleasure trip, but are boarded at sea by armed fishermen who overpower them by surprise, so they must jump overboard and are left to drown, she is wounded at a shoulder. Thomas's Navy SEAL experience is needed to improvise a sling and reach an uninhabited atoll, while dealing with her verbal sabotage. Rick and T.C. soon realizes they lust be in real trouble and alerts Katsumoto, who is forced to release the suspect they found, so they mount their own rescue, while the fiend warns his cahoots they can't afford to leave 'loose ends' swim around.

When he takes them to the man they find him and another man dead, and evidence points to another person. When Magnum goes home he finds his ex Hannah there wounded and it was she who hired the man to hire him to find the man. They tried to pull a fast one on her, and she killed them. She said why she betrayed him in Afghanistan and why she tried to get the gold. was to help her father who's being held by rogue CIA agents. They want the man she had him find, so now they have to find him and trade him for her father.
