The American Ballet Theatre performs "La Bayadre" at the Metropolitan Opera House in a full-length production staged by dancer Natalia Makarova. Host Pia Lindstrom introduces the ballet, originally choreographed by Marius Petipa, and which has never before been produced in its entirety in the West. Makarova, who conceived and directed the production, is making her debut as a choreographer, reinserting the final act usually omitted from twentieth century productions.
