A suspect in a series of deadly armed robberies of check cashing stores, Trent, is picked up but let loose for lack of evidence. Trent then attempts another robbery, gets killed by Hunt, but not before Trent shoots June the precinct secretary, at the scene. When a witness states that Trent was escorted by uniformed police going into the store being robbed, it becomes a corruption issue. It turns out June was connected to Trent, and this is how the case gets solved.

A guru inspires the theory his supposed future background may be the actual illusion he's about to wake up from.

That goes bloodily wrong, but the baby is found. Sam stays to protect his mother and his toddler self, but as the party in the park approaches, so does a grim truth.

The robber accidentally shoots a passerby in the street and is identified as Soviet Ukrainian illegal immigrant Yuri Demidov. He was blackmailed by Russian gangster Vasilli Lukin, from Nunzio's turf, so the case requires cooperation. Sam mediates with social worker Maria Belanger, who seduces him without divulging her pa and the rivalry root, which Ray eagerly points out.

Meanwhile, Hunt's daughter is chasing Sam, who doesn't think it can end any way but badly for him and Annie tries her best to hide her jealousy of the whole situation.

Although lieutenant Gene Hunt hated Conway for adding lies to his truly abusive record, he agrees with the commissioner to handle the case by the book, for fear of his press colleagues. Sam however completely looses his cool when he recognizes from the future gallery owner Tony Crane, who will raise professionally and continue killing flippant young female artists, so Sam wants to save Tony's present protégée by all means, despite herself and the whole precinct, never mind a restraining order and ruined restaurant owner Demetri Pantos's macho confession.
