Just when he wants to abandon the impossible ingrate patient, hunky physiotherapist Kent's arrival changes Max's mind, desperate to spend time with him, so Penny must stay his patient and hidden so Max can move in. Dave and Jane surprise nobody announcing they are now a couple with sex, yet she sets him up with a bar maid before discussing their won relationship prospects. For three weeks, fired Brad hides having found another job to enjoy office life, but when Jane finds out he's not the perfect yet leisurely home husband and would be-ventriloquist.

Dave and Alex decide to consecrate their reunion by moving in together to a new place, but insecurity stirred by Jane makes them turn down suitable apartments on ludicrous grounds to real estate agent Suzanne's quietly growing, ultimately exploding despair. Jane senses that Penny plans a major purchase, as turns out a new car, and imposes her superior negotiator skills, to the Car Czar salesman's justified despair, yet also impresses the owner with a startling consequence. Penny played the car dealer as she was able to car which impressed Jane.

Alex is tormented by a diet and warned by Jane she and Dave must bring variation and spice onto their relationship which is not gross. When Alex try's to do what Jane told her to do she fails straight away.

Brad and Jane happily invite Dave and Alex, now an equally happy couple, to the family reunion they prepared for the Kerkovich sisters' impossible to please Serbian businessman father. Penny talks Dave out of believing Brad he doesn't have to go, so Dave witnesses super-nervous trying out the elaborate joke Jane devised with Max's help for her father, which she feels as stinging betrayal, but also finds Alex never told her parents they are a couple again, so his being left at altar-embarrassment is revived. Jane makes a crazily-improvised practical joke attempt at her dad's party breaking a melon on her own head which saves her day.

No-Ho-Ho

When Jane's ID is discovered fake, she admits pretending to have her birthday in July instead of Christmas, impending, to break the trauma of having it overshadowed and getting stuck with 'combo gifts', like a toy plus separate batteries. The others decide to celebrate her and thereto postpone Christmas, even after the surprise is so great she instinctively welcomes' them with pepper-spray. As predicted, Christmas keeps tempting everyone, Max can't resist stocking up eggnog, only to have his backpack container pierced, Brad is caught dancing with his hip)hop Santa. Disappointed, Jane walks off into town and accidentally finds a birthday party for Christmas babies but soon realizes not to actually hate Christmas, let alone the gang, and returns to call for a Christmas party. *Dave proves himself as 'gift whisperer' for Penny, yet Pete, now accepted in the gang, is right to politely turn down his suggestion, being romantically inspired himself.

Verbal bantering between them leads them to a weird competition of macho tests. Having had to decent date for a while, Max is depressed, unlike Derrick, because he seems to fit no single gay category. Jane joins their efforts to find out by systematically trying all Chicago's gay establishments, including weird ones. Nothing fitting, Max declares his own, and finds other odd-out gay guys interested. Penny sees minor pop star Winnie McCray buying a dress in Alex's store and plots seizing the opportunity to get free publicity from the the paparazzi, but it tuns bad for everyone. Penny redeems herself by offering Whitney a day out of the limelight so she can make up with boyfriend Kyle.

Dave's food trucks is stolen, so Penny helps mount a chase for the thief, but when turns out he used it to sell a new type of sandwich to inspired Dave and his clients' taste, the recipe is asked as ransom, only to dismissed on shocked grounds.
