Howard feels Joanie sees too much of Chachi, so he offers to install a phone in her room if she agrees not to see Chachi for two weeks. But, Joanie and Chachi sneak off to a concert in Chicago and end up stuck when the car breaks down, leading them to have to share a hotel room. Will they get back to Milwaukee and get away with it? Or will fate cause Joanie to lose her phone?

Fonzie returns from Italy, with a beard, and excited about a new job. He'll be teaching mechanics at the High School. But he starts to lose his cool when his students are not as adept as he was at their age. With his students ready to quit his class, he starts to wonder if he has what it takes to be a teacher.

Lori Beth gets a letter of proposal from Richie (who's in the Army and stationed in Greenland) She wants to be with him for a ceremony but can't afford to go. Marion then, goes on a game show called "Dreams Can Come True" to hopefully win the money. She and then 2 other ladies tell their sad stories but... after hearing the "real" problems of the other two ladies, Marion wonders if the cause she's fighting for is equal enough, to accept the prize.

Howard and Marion's nephew Roger Phillips comes to Milwaukee to start a new life. He is clean-cut, straight-laced and quite naive for a college graduate. The Cunninghams give him Richie's old room, but it may take more than their advice to help him fit in to his new surroundings.

Since Chachi doesn't have the money for this, she sneaks off and gets one herself. She discovers, however, it's easier said than done to keep it a secret from Howard and Marion.
