In the sixth season of this medical drama, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) bask in the glow of being unofficially married, while the abrupt marriage between Izzie (Katherine Heigl) and Alex (Justin Chambers) begins to fall apart in the wake of a patient mishap. Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) see their relationship intensify, despite Callie's father's attempts to get her to renounce her homosexuality. Meanwhile, Meredith makes a personal sacrifice to help her ill father (Jeff Perry); and Mark (Eric Dane) discovers that he is a father when his 18-year-old daughter shows up, pregnant and in need of a place to stay.
