A 94 year old man comes looking for grandpa. He claims that he came to America on the same ship that grandpa was on 60 years ago and wants to talk to him about the journey for his memoirs. He gets grandpa to admit that during the trip he had a liaison with a 15 year old girl. He then admits that he is the girl's father and because of what happened between Grandpa and his daughter, he wants grandpa to marry her. Nell tells him that grandpa's not going to do it and grandpa concurs until he learns that the man is a tycoon. Nell then goes to see the man's daughter and learns she doesn't want to marry Grandpa but is too afraid of her father. So Nell tells her to stand up to him.

When Nell's CPR patient dies, Ray Parker Jr. performs at the benefit for his widow, neither of them knowing that the deceased was a vicious mobster known as Eddie the Enforcer.

Katie's having financial trouble with her shop and tries to keep Nell from finding out, knowing she'd overreact. Meanwhile Joey seems to be spending more time learning to breakdance than studying. Nell tells him that he must stop, and he tells her he can't stop practicing because he's performing at his teacher's retirement party. But when his teacher tells Nell that she isn't retiring anytime soon, Nell tries to find out what he's hiding.

Julie tells Nell that she's going to be with some of her friends for the week end. Addy is going away to go skiing and asks Nell to go with her and a couple of guys. Nell goes. But when they get to the lodge, Nell finds Julie there with a guy.

To get back at Nell for not letting her go on a fishing trip, Sam plans to use Joey to get back at her.

Nell's school assignment is to get her family to stop watching TV and to try and talk to each other. They all agree to try. But when Nell learns that her favorite show is on, and the Chief learns that there's a football game, things get complicated especially when Katie reveals something her boyfriend asked her.

Grandpa is acting very cranky. He's complaining about having to share a room with Joey. He wants to move out but Carl reminds him he has no resources.

Nell is dating a lawyer. Grandpa doesn't trust him because he is a lawyer. Nell goes to see him before he goes on a business trip and overhears a couple of messages left on his answering machine by women. Nell is insecure, and when one of those women goes with him on his trip, she freaks out and leaves a message on his machine telling him she's dumping him. Then, when she learns that she's wrong, she doesn't know what to do. Julie tells Nell she should talk to him and apologize, which she nixes. That's when Katie suggests she erase the message. But how will she get into his apartment?

Nell's stressed because she's being honored as the woman of the year and can't find anything to wear. Julie shows her the diamond necklace her new boyfriend just gave her. Nell tells her that she should give it back because she doesn't know him that well. She entrusts it to Nell till she meets him again. Nell's new boyfriend gives her a mink coat, which she takes and plans to wear at the ceremony and also wears the necklace. Later she gets robbed. And tries to tell Julie what happened without looking like a hypocrite.

Nell goes back to Alabama for her sister's wedding, where she clashes with her mother.

After an earthquake, Nell is trapped in the library with a deaf woman who can read lips, but only in Spanish.

Addy's women's group is having a benefit and Nell says she can get Sammy Davis Jr. to appear. She gets a letter confirming that Sammy will come. But when she calls him to confirm, he says that he's slated to be there next month. But because everyone is expecting Sammy and that she already sold all the tickets, Nell is in a quandary. But when she finds a man who looks like Sammy, she tries to get him to perform only problem is that he can't sing.

During a torrential rainstorm, Officer Simpson disappears while trying to save a cat and is presumed to have died.

Nell and Addy take over when the entire Glenlawn police force suffers food poisoning.

Katie is asked by a friend to look after her apartment for a month and she accepts. Now she has to tell her father about but Nell warns her that her father won't like it. And sure enough he doesn't approve but she goes anyway. Eventually everyone in the house butts heads with Carl leading to them leaving the house and going to Katie. And eventually everyone ends up there and it's a small apartment.
