Falcon Beach is a town in cottage country by a lake in Canadian province Manitoba, where aquatic sports are part of the pleasure package which attracts many visitors during the sunny tourist season. Local adolescent blond god Jason Tanner, who runs the barely break-even marina with his widowed ma, and his best friend Danny, whose family owns an old-fashioned arcade, are content with their simple life, but everything starts changing when the Bradshaw family returns to a cabin it owns there, as dad Trevor, a New York corporate tycoon, hatches plans to 'develop' the paradise profitably, never mind environment or locals. His daughter Paige, a Harvard brain, will date every attractive male in the story and cause them mixed emotions, while her brother Lane sways even more between dad's ruthless enterprise and his own drug addiction and dealings with murky Mook, fighting each-other and the police. Danny's relationship with local life-guard and hip hop-coach Erin also has extreme heights and lows.

Pregnant Erin's parents can't stand her being with Danny, so he accepts their pay-off to return to Falcon Beach- only with her, a long car-drive. Jason soldiered on after loosing the championship because of his knee-injury, or in his mind mental block. Now the new tourist season starts, he's eager to have it started with fireworks, even if the mayor cancels those, so he goes look for the supply in Danny's dad's shed. Trevor is back with Lane as his heir-deputy, Paige only visits as daughter; ma refuses to drop the divorce if pa returns the cottage, they compromise on a year truce. Trevor's consortium believes they can buy the marina despite Jason's stubborn refusal because dad Bobby sold an option, but Bradshaw lawyer Nathan Rai discovers in local lawyer Greg Oluffson's office it's invalid without ma's missing signature, yet Trevor plans to bluff the Tanners with an expensive trial although he can't wait that long. Junkie Taya dares blame Lane now her actions will cost her jail time, unlike his. Jason and Paige get the fireworks and horny enough to make love on the beach. Jason was ready to agree a good price now ma is desperate about their bills, when Greg's belated discovery after Nathan's visit makes him reconsider. Erin's contractions culminate in the sight of Falcon Beach, but...

These people include: Paul Jamison, her college sweetheart husband, who is often just another big kid in their relationship, while Cathy has acted the responsible adult; Adam Jamison, Cathy and Paul's teenaged son who is going through typical issues of being a teenager and only child; Sean Tolkey, Cathy's hyper-environmental anti-establishment brother, who chooses to be homeless to live off the grid and who abhors what he sees as Cathy's bourgeois suburban lifestyle; her students, such as Andrea Jackson, who openly stands her ground on any issue, including her weight problem and her African-American background; and her elderly seemingly crotchety female long-time neighbor, who Cathy has not made the effort to know despite their close proximity for years.
