Episode 1
Ayesha visits testy, elderly Eleanor Hitch, who is giving decorator Connor McAuliffe a hard time. When Connor seeks revenge and ends up the worse for wear Ayesha discovers a terrible secret that Eleanor has been keeping for over sixty years. Elsewhere Jimmi brings his concerns about Anthony to Daniel, who falls for the practice manager's glib response and Karen talks Zara into throwing a house-warming party.
Episode 2
Zara and Daniel are concerned by the number of people declining the invitation to their party, including their colleagues, though there is a surprise in store. Meanwhile Emma and Jimmi attend a forensic awareness course, at the end of which Jimmi is made a tempting offer.
Episode 3
Zara plans a grand party with hired staff, headed by chef Julian but things go wrong as a sarcastic message about her goes viral and she starts to argue with guests over wearing shoes on her new floor. Mrs Tembe spars with Anthony when he tries to pump her for information about her new work-place and the evening ends in disaster. At least Ayesha and Sid have a positive when she offers to help him house hunt.
Episode 4
Emma and arrogant DS Atkins attend when Michael McDonald dies of natural causes but when his widow Esme kills herself and Atkins wants Emma to lie to cover his negligence she refuses. Elsewhere Zara, fearing that nobody likes her, tries to befriend Valerie, who is concerned about Barry, but her good intentions do not last for long.
Episode 5
Acerbic wheelchair user Pat Witton comes for the disabled access inspection, with her put upon teen-aged son Vienna. Valerie suspects that Pat is exploiting the boy and preventing him from leaving home and steps in to help them resolve matters. Meanwhile Jimmi visits Mrs Tembe at the ailing King's Green practice to tell her he intends to change jobs whilst, in his absence, Anthony suggests to Zara and Daniel a take-over of King's Green.
Episode 6
Rob and female colleague Dee are called to a disturbance when Annie Tanner accuses boyfriend Jason of infidelity. However it was not actual, having taken place in a computer game and when computer-obsessed Annie runs off Dee's gaming skills prove useful at finding her. Meanwhile Ayesha and Sid enjoy house-hunting whilst Jimmi agrees to the take-over for his own reasons and Anthony falls foul of Emma when he tries to erase Howard's mural.
Episode 7
Ruhma is surprised to find that pregnant Alice Chaykin and her partner Steve are happy for her ex-husband Chris to be living with them. However, after a disputed paternity claim, Ruhma realizes that Alice is using them and one of them is out for revenge. Anthony and Daniel visit Kings Green where Mrs Tembe impresses Daniel - rather to Anthony's annoyance.
Episode 8
Whilst Sid is visiting elderly widower Alan Swann, Alan's dog Skipper bites television repairs man Scott Duckenfield. Fortunately Scott is also a dog owner, which defuses the situation, but Sid recognizes another problem which needs addressing. Elsewhere Anthony takes Daniel to play golf with Kings Green partner Adrian Willis, making a proposal which shocks Daniel.
Episode 9
Emma soothes expectant Rhiannon Davis, who tells her that her first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage though Ruhma offers another version. At Kings Green Mrs Tembe attempts to inspire the staff who squabble over everything and antagonize patients as they fear the take-over and Ayesha has a suggestion for Sid.
Episode 10
Zara and Daniel go to dinner with Anthony and his wife Trish and are initially impressed until their hosts start to attack Mrs Tembe. Heston is also entertaining - old flame Alicia, but they are interrupted by her jealous, much younger boyfriend, resulting in Heston playing relationship counsellor. Jimmi accompanies Al and Sid to the pub quiz but ends up expressing his dislike of Anthony.
Episode 11
Having moved her new partner into the family home Sian Hilton is angry that ex-husband has kept his illness from her. He is convinced that he has cancer but Al encourages him to fight it - and so does Sian. Emma visits Rhiannon and promises to help her whilst Jimmi is out-voted over the merger.
Episode 12
Marcus Hartwell comes to Zara explaining that since he lost his wife Marianne he has become an insomniac and requests sleeping pills, which she prescribes. However, after speaking to a loyal friend of her patient Zara discovers a more disturbing reason for Marcus's request and must act quickly to save him. Emma and Heston join Jimmi in their disapproval of the merger whilst Karen shocks Rob by suggesting they become foster parents.
Episode 13
Rob arrests drunken sales rep Darren Horsley but at the police station Darren tells him that he was trying to locate Helena, a woman who compromises and then blackmails wayward husbands like himself, setting Rob the task of finding her. At the partners' meeting Daniel turns the tables on Anthony, exposing his mismanagement and corruption, thereby forcing him to leave the practice.
Episode 14
Daniel sees an old friend, Adam Burt, whose much younger partner Michelle is pregnant. Michelle confesses to Daniel that the father is not Adam but Adam already knows and tolerates it. However, when the real, vengeful father turns up to make trouble Daniel comes to his friend's aid. At the surgery the staff are bewildered by Anthony's sudden exit whilst Emma visits Rhiannon's social worker Jane and Ruhma and Heston's trip to Stratford-upon-Avon does not run smoothly.
Episode 15
Ayesha calls on elderly emphysema sufferer Gerard, who lives with partner of twenty years Tom, the pair existing off their bickering. Tom berates his partner for his unhealthy life style but when Tom needs help Gerard proves his worth. Elsewhere Ruhma makes a decision and Ayesha has a proposition for Emma.

Episode 16
Having overslept and broken her heel Valerie anticipates a third disaster and then bumps into an elderly invalid called Shirley Bassey. However when Shirley comes to the surgery she shows Valerie that life is not so bad after all. Mrs Tembe also turns up, to discuss returning as practice manager.
Episode 17
Sid attends to schoolgirl Willow Cobb for her asthma but it is exacerbated by the fact that her parents are divorcing. When Willow has an attack certain home truths come to the surface. Al is interviewed for a magazine - at Zara's house, which is a surprise to her when she comes home unexpectedly - whilst Mrs Tembe lays down terms for her return to the surgery.
Episode 18
Jimmi treats carer Mick Harvey who has been assaulted by his foster son Alec but is surprised to find that Alec is also bruised. However when the truth comes out the pair join forces to speak at a meeting for potential foster parents - including Karen and Rob. Sid makes a good impression on new landlady Emma whilst Ruhma's children give her the green light for moving in with Heston.
Episode 19
When simple-seeming Ray Glossop comes to the surgery complaining of trench foot Karen discovers that he was reported missing seven years earlier and decides to reunite him with his father. Emma and Ruhma join forces to try and help Rhiannon whilst Mrs Tembe finds her new role far from plain sailing.
Episode 20
Emma and Ruhma arrive at the case conference to support Rhiannon and Paul in their application to keep their unborn child and both speak up in the couple's favour, leading convener Sue Harper to recommend that they should be allowed to keep the baby with careful supervision. Social worker Jane Fairweather is less positive regarding Rhiannon's past, leading to a confrontation with Emma and an upset to the proceedings.
Episode 21
Ayesha is visiting a clothes shop run by Elise Mulling when protesters break in claiming that she sells fur. Ayesha initially sides with Elise until she uncovers evidence that proves them right. Elsewhere Mrs Tembe pitches new ideas to the partners whilst Emma is dispirited by Rhiannon's negative attitude and Rob surprises Karen with his enthusiasm for fostering.
Episode 22
In her efforts to provide a paper free environment Mrs Tembe finds herself having to deal with rival software firms and uncovering professional sabotage. Rhiannon's baby is born prematurely whilst Al's attempts to impress Jimmi with his hero Erasmus Darwin meet with less success than his image in his recent interview.
Episode 23
Rob attends court to testify in the child abuse case but he and barrister Benjamin James are taken hostage by defendant Rhys Elliott and Rob has to use all his powers of persuasion to defuse the situation. At the surgery Mrs Tembe's enthusiasm for her new ideas are not shared by Karen and Valerie whilst Emma is witness to a painful parting.
Episode 24
Elderly Connie Templeton devotes all her time to taking action against anti-social behaviour on her estate, inadvertently foiling an attempt by Rob to catch an armed mugger. Her friend Jean is concerned that Connie is obsessive to the detriment of her health and asks Heston to intervene. Elsewhere Al sets out to walk to the home of Erasmus Darwin in Lichfield and Emma discovers whether Rhiannon can keep her baby son.
Episode 25
As Al sets out for Lichfield, helping a pub landlady on the way, the local homeless hostel closes. One of its residents, schizophrenic Cam Lewis has a job interview but tells Jimmi he is concerned his bed bug bites will lose him the job. However the interview is a failure for other reasons and Jimmi realizes that he is off his medication
Episode 26
Pregnant and cast out by her family Shazia is interviewed by Tommy, a journalist posing as homeless, who calls an ambulance when she collapses with appendicitis. At the hospital Ruhma is sympathetic when Shazia begs her not to tell her family but then she disappears. Al scores another hit on his journey, helping at the screening of a Bollywood film but ends up sleeping in a furniture shop.
Episode 27
Al has a rude awakening and requires the help of Karen whilst Tommy's corpse is dragged from the canal and Jimmi recognizes his killer on the CCTV. Shazia returns to the streets and father of her baby, Dave, who then makes an unwelcome visit to Daniel, reminding him of the past.
Episode 28
Shazia is rushed to hospital for her operation but refuses Ruhma's offer of housing help, claiming it will enable her family to locate her, and choosing instead to go with Dave. Emma interviews murder suspect Cam regarding the circumstances of Tommy's death whilst Al is taken in by vicar Kirsty, whom he encourages to sing in a choir though she wants rather more from him than encouragement.
Episode 29
Zara tries to help Andrew Hentley from becoming homeless when the mother for whom he was acting as carer dies and he has no legal claim to the tenancy. She is also angry when Daniel lies to her about a bank withdrawal to pay off the blackmailer Dave Preston, which Dave uses to secure a place for himself and Shazia. Meanwhile Al arrives in Lichfield, having inspired Kirsty to perform with her choir.
Episode 30
Karen and Valerie come in on Saturday morning to work overtime for Mrs Tembe and are joined by Daniel. Another visitor is Sid, who is in the nude having been stripped as a prank by friends who think he talks too much and who requires a confidence boost from both Valerie and Daniel, though not before he has given Mrs Tembe a shock.
Episode 31
Jimmi's friend Kate is perturbed that her boyfriend Mike is seeing somebody else and persuades him to play sleuth to find out though the outcome is more complicated than expected. Mrs Tembe's introduction of a self-service check-in machine does not meet with general approval whilst Ruhma and her family move in permanently with Heston.
Episode 32
Al sees student Pippa Walker, whose friend Sammy claims that she is anorexic and notifies Pippa's mother, though Pippa herself sees this as interference. However Pippa does need help of a different sort and mercifully Al and Ayesha are there for her. Meanwhile Karen fears she has ruined her fostering interview and Emma encourages Paul Cuthbert, who is afraid that he will make a bad parent.
Episode 33
Phil Wilson, a university professor, is plagued by unnatural body odour, which Valerie identifies, having had a relative with the same disorder, thus allowing Sid to treat it. Phil is grateful to Valerie and shows his gratitude in an unusual way which Valerie can appreciate. Elsewhere Karen continues to find the self-service machine annoying and Daniel placates Zara over Al's using their house for his press interview.
Episode 34
Daisy Murray, rogue cop involved in the child abuse case, survives an attempt by the abusers to prevent her from giving evidence and lies in hospital, guarded by Rob and nervous colleague Simon Boothroyd. Rob is suspicious of a persistent cleaner but Daisy's would-be killer may be closer to home. Meanwhile Mrs Tembe, having sent back the self-service machine, confides her domestic problems to Jimmi.
Episode 35
Emma sees elderly Elizabeth Gunn, who accuses detective constable Ian Talbot of stealing her dead daughter's phone - leading Emma to the discovery that the widowed Ian, in his grief, has taken items from the deceased 'to preserve their memory'. Jimmi meanwhile visits Mrs Tembe and hears her noisy neighbours whilst the Hollinses attend a meeting for foster parents.
Episode 36
Divorced lecturer Grant Johnson refuses to accept middle age, taking legal highs and trying to date young students but when he makes a fool of himself introducing Al's talk about his app he has to realize that he needs help. Al himself misses an opportunity when he fails to spot mature student Isabelle's interest in him whilst Heston agrees to join Ruhma's family in their Ramadan fast.
Episode 37
Heston appears in court as a character witness for poet friend George Whitbeck, who, whilst suffering from dementia, is on trial for killing his wife Celia's young lover. However the trial produces a a shocking surprise. Elsewhere Ruhma clashes with Daniel after he has prescribed plastic surgery for a new mother and Mrs Tembe's work suffers, due to sleeplessness caused by her rowdy neighbours.
Episode 38
Ayesha is perturbed that orphaned Jenna Keaton is suffering as a result of caring for her sister Cally, whose agoraphobia she feels that she has caused - until Heston tells her the truth about the siblings. Mrs Tembe is almost won over by Al's new automated patient survey and Ruhma and Daniel make their peace with each other.
Episode 39
Sid must explain to Luke and Lilly Spring that they are no longer eligible for fertility treatment, which also brings Mrs Tembe into the firing line and makes her feel inadequate as they are personal friends of hers. Ruhma meanwhile teaches Daniel how to get the better of an obnoxious customer at a house clearance sale.
Episode 40
Martha Bates is Emma's most garrulous and boring patient but Martha is aware of her faults and fears they are distancing her from Jane, the orphaned niece she has brought up since her parents died. However, when both of them have unpleasant experiences Martha rises to the occasion and wins Jane's respect. Elsewhere Ruhma recommends that Rhiannon's baby has a minor operation and Zara's suggestion that Mrs Tembe moves house is not well-received.
Episode 41
Mrs Tembe attends the opening of a cancer research centre funded by millionaire Julius Ngotse, whom she knew as a young boy in Botswana but the building is picketed by aggressive students accusing Julius of exploitation and the situation is not helped by overly zealous security head Sharon Kinsella. When an explosive device is set off Al and Barry try to find the culprit but Sid beats them to it.
Episode 42
After successfully house-hunting with Zara Mrs Tembe goes to watch Al play on behalf of his injured friend Pete in a crucial darts tournament. With Pete's bossy wife Tracey in the opposing team Al finds himself being blackmailed into losing but fortunately Mrs Tembe gives him good advice. Meanwhile Karen and Rob get a mixed reaction when, practising their fostering skills, they baby-sit for Ruhma's children.
Episode 43
Following a neighbour's concern Daniel makes an unannounced visit to Geoffrey Redman but the only person at home is his agoraphobic daughter Lucy, who insists on keeping the curtains drawn and the lights low and has not left the house for twelve years, following her mother's death. There is also something else that is very wrong - as Daniel discovers - whilst back at the surgery Jimmi rounds up volunteers for Mrs Tembe's Summer Fayre.
Episode 44
Emma and Rob are perturbed that probationer policewoman Kate Foster is being bullied by her arrogant partner the more experienced constable Dave Blaire - but it is Kate who rises to the occasion when the police are called to the scene of a terrible accident - one which has a particular significance for Emma. Back at the surgery Al shows Mrs Tembe how to sell her house the easy way.
Episode 45
Jimmi consoles Emma, after Rhiannon has accidentally dropped baby Nicholas, killing him, though a hysterical Rhiannon refuses to believe that he is dead. Emma is unhappy that Rhiannon must give a sample to prove that she was sober but Rob feels that Emma is too close to her and Paul to be objective and Jane warns her that she may have to justify her decision to let them keep their baby. Heston, meanwhile, learns about Ramadan from the Hanifs when he joins in their fasting.
Episode 46
Rob interviews Rhiannon and Paul about their baby's death and both stick to the claim that Rhiannon tripped and dropped him. But after Paul has gone Rhiannon changes her story. Zara and Daniel entertain Ruhma and Heston for dinner but Zara's attitude does not make for the best of evenings and Emma is still finding it hard to accept recent events.
Episode 47
Valerie sets out to track down Alice Haslett, a fellow cancer sufferer whose advice on her Internet site was inspirational, only to find that she has died and her son is carrying on her work. Meanwhile Rob interviews Ruhma and Emma regarding Rhiannon and Paul's conflicting statements, after which Jane points out to Emma that they will both be scrutinized at the inquest.
Episode 48
As the staff fends off inquisitive journalists Emma learns the results of the post mortem on baby Nicholas, which proves that one of his parents was lying and causes her to doubt her professional judgement. Mrs Tembe is grateful to Valerie for offering to organize her Summer Fayre for her and is thus shocked when Daniel tells her that financial constraints mean that the receptionist must go.
Episode 49
Mrs Tembe runs her Summer Fayre, helped by her colleagues and in the knowledge that she must ultimately tell Valerie the surgery cannot afford to keep her. Despite the bouncy castle collapsing, Sid getting caught up in the coconut shy and a nosy journalist trying to dish the dirt on Emma following baby Nicholas's death the day is a success, much of it down to Valerie. Zara however can do without her mother-in-law Marion coming to stay.
Episode 50
Missing husband Gregory Wallace is found dead and nude in a sleeping bag, his neck broken, mystifying Rob and his insensitive new inspector, Sian Dixon, until the widow provides a bizarre explanation. Zara is not only irritated but mystified by the reason for Marion's visit whilst Mrs Tembe has bad news for Valerie and Jimmi tries to console Emma after the local press brands her the Black Widow.
Episode 51
After over-hearing her phone conversation Zara assumes that Marion is seriously ill and consequently puts up with her criticisms. Karen introduces Rob to a former foster-child to convince him they are doing the right thing whilst Emma, refusing to forgive herself for baby Nicholas's death, gets drunk with a bar pick- up and cleans up at the casino.
Episode 52
Rose Foster has a rare condition which makes her physically feel the pain of others so that when potential new boyfriend, delivery man Ronnie, has a heart attack her reaction shocks him - until Jimmi advises her what to do. Meanwhile Emma reacts defensively to her colleagues' concern, Mrs Tembe feels frustrated as Valerie's colleagues speak up for her and Zara continues to be annoyed by Marion's care of Joe.
Episode 53
Ruhma performs an ultra sound on Jenna Truman, who, with husband Matt, is expecting twins but discovers that one of the foetuses may not survive and could harm the other, presenting the couple with a dilemma. Zara accuses Daniel of supporting Marion in undermining her whilst Mrs Tembe is under pressure both at work and in her house purchase and Emma continues to hit out at her colleagues, seeking an escape at the casino.
Episode 54

Graham Wallingden brings his schoolgirl daughter Amber to see Heston after she keeps blacking out. Initially mystified Heston comes to realize that it is an induced state to gain the attention of her workaholic father. Elsewhere Zara learns why Marion has come to stay and Emma's colleagues are relieved to see her so happy, unaware that this stems from her new-found gambling habit.
Episode 55
When tired mother Verity Leyton brings little daughter Cleo to the surgery as she keeps being sick Al realizes that the child has swallowed her mother's iron tablets. Verity blames irresponsible husband Duncan for his frequent absences and lack of parental control, leading to Al playing at marriage counsellor. Daniel has bad news for Valerie who is hoping to work at his new improved Botox centre but is spared telling Marion that her stay is not entirely welcome when she informs him that she has made plans to return home.
Episode 56
Volunteer worker Lenny Gilroy is struggling to save his children's centre from closure but at the expense of his family life, annoying his wife Sonia, who mistakes his workaholic devotion for an affair with his assistant Marlene and it is left to Mrs Tembe to sort things out. Meanwhile Ayesha and Heston help Valerie prepare for her interview as a fund raiser with a cancer charity.
Episode 57
Rick Haines struggles to bring up teen-aged son Leyton, whose mother Stella deserted them years earlier and, to add to his troubles, he has a rare degenerative disease he fears the boy may have inherited from him. When Stella turns up out of the blue offering financial help Rick initially rebuffs her but when Daniel arranges a re-conciliatory meeting Stella reveals a secret which turns out to benefit all concerned. Meanwhile Ruhma's children become obsessed with finding more about their father.
Episode 58
Single parent Grace works as a prostitute, unknown to her schoolboy son Tony, but when she is attacked by a punter her friend Ayesha suggests she tells him the truth. Unfortunately he finds out the hard way and Ayesha helps him to come to terms with the fact and his mother's reasons. Meanwhile Rob annoys Karen with his superior performance at the fostering session and Shak lets Heston in on his quest to find his father.

Episode 59
Bouncer Vic Morton is overjoyed when partner Bea Ward is pregnant, though Ruhma is wary as Bea is over forty. Then an hysterical Bea turns up at the surgery demanding an abortion and Ruhma must help her to come to terms with her fear of childbirth. Alia and Shak get closer to locating their father and Emma advises Zara to befriend the other mothers on the school run.
Episode 60
Valerie wins a prize, a visit to a community arts project run by Melanie Haslam and takes Sid with her . They are blindfolded by a faceless figure and bundled into a car before being challenged to win five thousand pounds if they complete a series of tests. Unaware that their adventure is being streamed to the web they later discover that they are being used by a disgruntled artist out to get revenge on Melanie and her greedy boyfriend.
Episode 61
Rob investigates when elderly black couple Jenny and Frank Harrison's house is fire-bombed. The principal suspect is Abi, teen-aged daughter of neighbour Cheryl, who has burns on her hands and racist literature in her room. However CCTV proves that she is innocent and the culprit a far more dangerous person. Meanwhile Valerie enjoys her leaving party and Zara befriends two other mothers but falls out with one of them.
Episode 62
Anita Walsh appears to be suffering from severe post-natal depression, relying on yet resenting mother-in-law Ivy's involvement with her baby Ella with husband Chris stuck in the middle. Jimmi however works out that Ivy's need to be wanted is as much of the problem as any medical condition. Meanwhile Alia and Shak contact their father's brother and Karen is perturbed when Zara recommends she sees a consultant regarding her fostering application medical.
Episode 63
Zara meets up with old friend Kate Croft, who blames her husband David when their son Nick is found with drugs on him, given David's past. However Zara discovers that her friend's seemingly perfect son is not as innocent as he appears. Elsewhere Alia and Shak meet uncle Zahood and learn that their father wants to see them and Emma takes Ayesha for a memorable evening at the casino.
Episode 64
Veteran actor Tommy Thomas feels trapped playing children's character Professor Pickering, created by his grasping wife who is reluctant to let him take other roles. Al helps him move on. Karen has her interview with the neurologist which appears to go well but Ruhma is angry to learn that her ex-husband is living nearby and that the children want to meet him.
Episode 65
When pregnant student Belle collapses in the surgery Sid rushes her to hospital, only to discover that she is fifteen and wants nobody to know about her situation. A call to Belle's father Terry informs Sid of the family background and brings about some reconciliation. Ruhma, however, is still angry that her children want to see their father and explains that he was a violent drunk from whom she had to escape when they were little.
Episode 66
Emma treats Lilia, a Russian woman who claims to be married to Jake Butterworth but Jake denies this, saying that she is the cleaning woman for himself and his son Niall. However Niall explains that she is indeed Mrs Butterworth, exposing an unpleasant trick on the part of Jake. Mrs Tembe realizes that Valerie has lied about her new job and Rob persuades Ruhma that her children should see their father - but in a public place.
Episode 67
Karen meets an old friend Rita, a cleaner hoping to embark upon an adult study course though her tutor Julian Darby feels that she is not up to it. When Karen and Rita's husband get involved Rita's secret comes out. Meanwhile Ruhma is relieved and Alia and Shak disillusioned when their father fails to meet them and Valerie, unhappy with her job as a canvasser for a cancer charity, is offered administration work.
Episode 68
On her first day working for a recruitment agency Valerie is able to help ex-nurse Julie Babbitt whose age and length of time out of the job market has gone against her finding employment. At the same Valerie begins to wonder how honest her new employers are. Ruhma meanwhile agrees to meet Zaroon but tells him why she had to leave her brutal husband and asks him not to contact her family again.
Episode 69
Ayesha fears for the mental state of pregnant Sarah Garrod, who carries a meteor around with her, claiming that it tells her what to do. Then Sarah's husband explains a past tragedy which has caused his wife to act as she does. Al gets the results of his glucose test and something of a shock whilst Ayesha and Emma invite Jimmi to the casino with them.
Episode 70
Mrs Tembe is angry when young businessman Marcus Buxton almost runs over her friend, lollipop lady Janey but relents when she hears his side of the story. Karen and Rob celebrate their having been approved as foster parents but are unexpectedly interrupted whilst Emma and Jimmi get cosy at the casino.
Episode 71
Valerie becomes aware that the recruitment agency is operating a scam, charging poorly-qualified doctors for a fee and attempts to trap its MD Dylan Harvey with a secret recording. Emma admits unashamedly to her one-night stand with Jimmi whilst Al picks up a rare comic book collection in a junk shop, where he witnesses a seemingly respectable middle-aged woman swindle the owner's cocky layabout boyfriend - before discovering that he has also been rooked.
Episode 72
After a hospital patient in the care of Dr Shevchuk, whose suitability Valerie had questioned, almost dies Valerie decides to gain further evidence to prove illegal activity at the agency and takes it to Rob. Meanwhile Zara crosses swords with electrician Colin Cropper who has come to do repairs at the surgery but ends up healing the breach between him and his son whilst Emma does not take kindly to Daniel's advice to stop gambling.
Episode 73
Following up on Valerie's information the police visit the agency and discover that they employ illegal immigrants though boss Patrick is suspicious of Valerie. Al treats author Ed Jamieson, who has been attacked by fellow villagers accusing him of basing his characters on them and uncovers an illness he has long been keeping secret whilst Jimmi's efforts to put Al on a diet predictably fail.
Episode 74
Daniel helps ex-addict Lewis Downing to clear his name after he is fired from his job following drugs being found in his locker. Karen and Rob host foster-child Hannah, who is alarmingly quiet and with a voracious appetite whilst Jimmi bets Al he cannot stay alcohol-free for a month and Mrs Tembe offers Valerie her job back.
Episode 75
Zara's patient Katie Lambert suspects boyfriend Aaron of infidelity as he no longer wants sex with her and has been seen visiting another woman so Zara makes him come clean as to what is going on. Karen and Rob are troubled by Hannah's lack of communication and bizarre theft of a bag of flour whilst Emma takes Al, Ayesha and Jimmi to a boxing club.
Episode 76
Orphaned autistic Pete Carvell is due to go into a group home but seems to be operating delaying tactics, making Ayesha believe that he is being coerced into going by brother Jamie. However his reasons turn out to be purely altruistic. At the surgery Sid reacts badly when elderly patient Evelyn Robinson dies in his consulting room and ends up lashing out at Al, whilst Karen is dismayed by Hannah's pessimistic outlook.
Episode 77
An already anguished Sid is confronted by Evelyn's son Vincent accusing him of being responsible his mother's death, requiring Mrs Tembe to step in and suggest Vincent makes a formal complaint. Mrs Tembe also reassures Karen, puzzled by Hannah's behaviour whilst Valerie re-encounters the handsome Derrick, the old flame who broke her heart and Zara learns that Emma spent the money left her by Howard on a flash new car, rather than investing in a partnership at the surgery.
Episode 78
Jimmi sees Melanie Hutton, who was assaulted some years earlier and is convinced she has now seen her assailant Marek Slaski. Marek provides an alibi, which Rob destroys but when Melanie takes the law into her own hands it almost results in a fatality. Sid decides to take a holiday in Mexico whilst Mrs Tembe instigates a sugar ban to combat obesity and diabetes.
Episode 79
Ruhma visits expectant couple Nadiya and Fazal whose baby has a heart defect which she feels may be the result of their being cousins. When Nadiya crashes her car Fazal fears that she is trying to induce a miscarriage but it is Fazal's frosty aunt, who has never liked Nadiya, who reconciles them with a confession of her own.
Episode 80
Student Jonah Aris, a maths genius, worries Heston after his flatmates film him singing whilst sleep-walking. Heston sends him to hospital but he never arrives and a call to his previous doctor reveals possible brain damage from a car accident. Meanwhile Ayesha is asked out on a date by boxing instructor Seb after he has defended her against a racist and Mrs Tembe's sugar ban causes a revolt, requiring the intervention of Ruhma.
Episode 81
Wafa Aziz, a veiled Muslim student, comes to the surgery for a day's observation and is verbally attacked by Karen's friend Liz Sully, whose soldier son was killed in Afghanistan by Islamic terrorists. Liz accuses Wafa of theft - wrongly - with tempers coming to the boil, until Wafa reveals her own tragedy. Mrs Tembe's sugar-free cake is a disaster whilst Ruhma and Emma persuade Ayesha to accept Seb's offer of a date.
Episode 82
Al goes to Bristol to see gaming partner Mary Anne but it seems she has given him a false name and stood him up - until he discovers the real reason for her non-appearance. Back home Ruhma's adherence to the sugar ban in the home causes friction with Heston and Ayesha's date with Seb turns into a chapter of accidents - though he is undeterred.

Pregnant Miranda Quantock is happy to be rid of ex-partner Jeremy and glad of the support of handyman Nick Johnson, especially when her business looks to be failing. When her cravings become dangerous, however, the two men end up fighting over her. At the surgery the sugar ban continues to be contentious but Ayesha is pleased when Seb asks for another date.

Jimmi tends Robbie Nelson, a young fitness fanatic obsessed with his body image who has cut himself smashing his perceived skinny image in a mirror. Adoring flatmate Luke almost hurts himself in his efforts to help before Jimmi comes to the rescue. Heston accidentally offends a female patient when he fails to note that her husband has just died, requiring Mrs Tembe's intervention, whilst Ayesha finds that Seb's conversation is not on a par with his sexual performance.

Rob and new young partner Tyler Green investigate a claim that undertakers Maureen and Geoff Aspland have substituted a fake for a dead woman's valuable necklace, an enquiry that leads them to jeweller Deborah Wilson. She admits the theft, claiming it was a one off but Tyler's persistence proves otherwise, uncovering an affair and a conspiracy. At the surgery Mrs Tembe's 'death board' denoting the recently deceased splits the staff whilst the Hollins prepare for their next foster placement.

Having met new mother and fellow church-goer Carly in the park Mrs Tembe later finds a baby abandoned at the surgery with a note . Realizing that Carly is the mother Mrs Tembe sets out to persuade her to think again. Sid returns from his holiday and, given his recent experience, is somewhat phased by the death board whilst Karen is charmed by her latest foster-child Barney.

Ayesha visits an elderly couple, Archie and Lottie Pryor, who have an unhealthy life-style. After yet another row Lottie decides to walk out on Archie, whom she describes as a tyrant. Archie, however, is very concerned and Ayesha is concerned for Lottie's mental state, needing Emma's help. Meanwhile Jimmi is hard pressed to find a volunteer to attend a sexism course and Emma decides to get rid of her car, on the anniversary of Howard's death.

Rob is shocked to discover that Barney has robbed a shop to sustain his substance abuse habit and is grateful for Tyler's intervention. Valerie is put on the spot when her friend Kirsty, made jobless and homeless after Valerie's whistle-blowing, turns up, seeking accommodation, though salvation comes from an unusual quarter. Meanwhile Sid and Ayesha try to dissuade Emma from selling her car.

Marcus Hayward wakes up in bed with boss and secret lover Jessica Nielson, claiming to have lost all recent memory. She takes him to see Sid at the surgery where an encounter with Ayesha's cousin Kayleigh uncovers a secret Marcus has been keeping from Jessica. Jimmi agrees to help Barney kick his addiction whilst Tyler finds himself attracted to Ayesha.

Whilst visiting his friend Harry, who is happy in his retirement, Heston finds a man seemingly talking in riddles who has let himself into the house, claiming that Harry is a former spy who has lost his memory regarding his espionage days. Harry and Heston are mystified - until Harry's wife provides a bizarre explanation. Elsewhere Jimmi feels he is getting through to Barney and Ayesha rejects Tyler's request for a date.
Episode 91
When Zara and Daniel attend a work-shop on gender equality she bets him that he will betray a sexist attitude. Daniel feels uncomfortable in the role playing and is later accused by the aggressive attendee Sue Gleeson of ogling her bosom. In fact it turns out that he has spotted a malignant mole and sends her to the surgery. Al visits his G.P. who is pleased that he has renounced sugar but urges him to give up smoking - which is not well-received.

Emma's patient, seventeen year old Jamie McAllister correctly predicts his father Graham's angry response when he tells him he wants gender realignment and needs Emma to intervene . Daniel gives in to Zara's wish to become a school governor whilst Ayesha continues to rebuff Tyler's advances.
Episode 93
White witch Amy Galuski scares park ranger Martin Bairns by foretelling terrible danger for him, possibly due to his shaky marriage to Kate. However Amy has a score to settle with Kate and is using Martin - as Heston discovers. The Hollins' Halloween party for Barney goes horribly wrong, ending his placement whilst Daniel is embarrassed by son Joe's choice of trick or treat costume for him.
Episode 94
Elderly MS sufferer Christine Leverty is due to go into a nursing home and husband Eric takes her out for their last day together. She is pessimistic for both their futures and suggests suicide. Sid tries to reconcile them but it may be too late. Meanwhile Daniel is embarrassed when shots of him dressed as a fairy appear on the net whilst Al tries to dissuade Jimmi from attending the Vita Course.

Father Karel Kaminski calls Rob in following a break-in at the church community hall where Karel's deputy Matt is running the religion-based Vita course attended by Jimmi. Rob arrests a young congregation member Aidan who admits to the crime but is concerned by the priest's reluctance to press charges. Meanwhile Emma builds Sid's hopes up regarding Ayesha.

Zara is pioneering a scheme for sexual consent forms but student Heather Tavistock comes to the surgery complaining that she signed one with boorish Rick Jacobs who then used it to boast that they had had sex when in fact nothing happened. Valerie helps her to get even. Elsewhere Mrs Tembe berates Al for mocking Jimmi's decision to take part in the Vita course but he is unrepentant.

Still angry with husband Steve, who left her for another woman after eighteen years Abby Price tells Ruhma she believes she is pregnant by him but a trip to hospital after she falls down results in a shock for them both. Zara and Daniel are arrested after policeman's widow Judy Arrow catches them love-making in the park whilst Ayesha splits from Seb after he fights with Tyler.

Sid feels inept when several of his patients die and needs the reassurance of Heston and Emma whilst Zara and Daniel's escapade hits the front page of the local paper. Journalist Harriet James is sent to trap Daniel into giving her a story but feels better of it and does the right thing, also getting rid of her wastrel boyfriend who has come on to Zara. Mrs Tembe defends her colleagues to Judy Arrow but asks them to resign from the gender equality panel.

Jonathan Woodfern is perturbed that his elderly father Stanley, who has angina and memory loss, has been seeing an escort and calls Heston after locking Stanley in his bedroom. However Heston discovers that it is the son, not the father, that has the problem. Meanwhile Ayesha is touched to find that Tyler makes toys for children's homes but Zara is outraged at being passed over as a school governor.

Mrs Tembe agrees to organize a treasure hunt to bring her shy friend June Collerton together with the object of her affection, the equally bashful Michael Brightman. However Michael begins to think that Mrs Tembe is his admirer - until she puts him right. Elsewhere Sid, still worried about his patients' mortality rate, is reassured by Jimmi but neither is amused by Al's customarily cynical take and Ayesha is definitely not happy when her date with Tyler turns out to be a stake-out.

Rob is asked to investigate when wheel-chair bound Jerry Bayfield appears to be acting voyeuristically towards a young mother in a park. Jerry has form for robbery but nothing sexual. However he also has a secret. Rob also tries to put in a good word for Tyler with Ayesha and an already less than confident Sid feels inadequate when dealing with over-anxious young mother Chloe Grayson and her sick baby daughter Ivy.
Episode 102
Sheila Tatton calls Al in claiming that her neighbour Poppy Wearing is mentally ill but Poppy reckons that Sheila is the one in need, telling Al that she has done away with her husband. When things turn violent Al calls in Tyler and they make a sinister discovery. Zara feels that she and Daniel are being ostracized by other parents after their unwelcome publicity and Ruhma reassures Sid over his perceived inability to recognize baby Ivy's meningitis.
Episode 103
Emma sees thirty-year old Luke Collier, released from prison after thirteen years for murder. His victim's mother Grace has long been in contact and is supportive but her daughter Kelly hates him and wants revenge. Emma has to advise both Grace and Luke on the best way forward. Sid decides to return to work after Heston confesses how he too once lost a patient and Valerie becomes the latest victim of up-skirting, a sordid practice of photographing up women's skirts. Tyler investigates and Ayesha is impressed by his sensitive treatment of Valerie.

Daniel's patient Marie Soames tells him that her work colleague and old flame Jon Moore is dating Leona, a glamorous model several years his junior. However Leona is a con-woman who preys on gullible old men and Daniel sets out to unmask her. Meanwhile Valerie recognizes student Tom Rodmore as the up-skirt er and publicly shames him following his arrest.

Sid gives a talk to some medical students, one of whom, Nathan, seems especially gloomy and argumentative. When Nathan collapses Sid realizes that he is suffering from anxiety and may have entered medicine for the wrong reason. Elsewhere Ayesha's date with Tyler begins badly when it turns out to involve a bowling foursome with Karen and Rob but gets better whilst Jimmi signs up for the Vita course's retreat.

An old friend of Heston's seeks his advice now her dad is back on the booze and changed the locks. Valerie's upskirter sees Al at the Campus surgery. Ruhma sees a friend who's suffering racist abuse.

When elderly Alzheimers sufferer Nolly Clements reports his pills as being stolen nobody believes him until they are found in the possession of his carer Ofelia. She claims that she was merely looking after them for him and then Phil Nugent, manager of the flats where Nolly and other old people live, comes forward, demonstrating that some crimes are committed out of altruism. Al meanwhile seeks Sid's advice regarding Tom Rodmore and is surprised by his response.
Episode 108
Singleton Josie Maray is going to hospital to have her baby but argues with birth partner, her mother Anne, over every little detail and the choice of a natural birth. This uncovers wider issues between the two women which Ruhma helps them overcome. Ayesha has mixed reactions when Tyler tells her he has located her mother whilst Mrs Tembe plans a party to celebrate Valerie's upcoming cancer all-clear.
Episode 109
Collecting left-overs from a vegetarian restaurant for her food bank Mrs Tembe is surprised to find that chef Dexter Hickson has suddenly developed a craving for meat and a bigger surprise comes when it turns out to be the result of a liver transplant and its attendant medication. Zara is adamant that Joe gets the star part in his school Nativity play whilst Emma meets a handsome young man at a club - and makes the mistake of taking him home.
Episode 110
Ayesha is one of several people whose vehicles are boxed in by a van in a car park and they argue but when driver David Small, whose wife has parked the van blocking his car after an argument, has a stroke they all rally to help. Emma is shocked to find that one-night stand Matthew posted photos of her asleep as Saucy Doctor on the Internet and Jimmi finds the idea of forgiveness hard to take at the group, given his father's treatment of him.
Episode 111
Valerie bumps into Helen, a woman who tormented her at college, with her pleasant husband Henry and Helen seems to have changed when she and Henry ask Valerie out for lunch. However Helen has made her the subject of a cruel bet, though Valerie turns the tables on her. Elsewhere Emma finds her colleagues' sympathy of little consolation and Zara is irate that Joe has not got a star part in the Nativity but Jimmi is at last able to forgive Daniel for his affair with Cherry.
Episode 112
Ayesha accompanies a nervous Valerie to her hospital check-up but the result is positive and Zara persuades Emma to stop hiding away and come to the party thrown by Mrs Tembe to celebrate Valerie's good news. Al however continues to be cynical about Jimmi's new-found religion.

Ruhma is visiting her friend Edwina Herriot, a retired midwife, when a man called Gavin turns up, claiming he is the son Edwina gave up for adoption as a baby but Edwina states that she only has one child, her daughter Gabby, since Gavin died in infancy. Gabby is more sympathetic to him, especially when she learns the truth about her own parentage but Ruhma has him arrested and exposed as a con-man called Billy - who nonetheless wants to do a deal with the police. Ayesha and Tyler make holiday plans but Daniel is shocked when Zara announces an alternative starring vehicle for Joe, a version of 'A Christmas Carol'.
Episode 114
Edwina confesses to the police how, after Gavin died, she stole baby Carly Nichols from her pram and passed her off as her daughter, naming her Gabby. Gabby is shocked and goes to see the Nichols family. Her birth mother Margaret has Alzheimers but nonetheless recognizes her whilst Ruhma helps Zara persuade Heston to stage 'A Christmas Carol'.

Sid comes to the aid of music lecturer Kyle Arnold, who collapses in the street, citing lack of sleep as its cause. Kyle just wants Sid to give him sleeping pills but his problem is his obsession with completing a symphony he is composing and it is compounded by his friend Beth's ill-advised attempt to help him, as Sid discovers. Jimmi decides to leave the Vita group whilst Valerie meets up with an old friend and fellow cancer survivor Lena and Emma agrees to help Heston with the play.
Episode 116
After Zara tells her that she has terminal cancer Sarah Smith decides against selling her paper firm to business rival Frank Albertini, leaving it instead to step-daughter Rania. However Rania greedily proposes a merger with Frank to her own advantage but then Zara receives devastating news that changes everything. Meanwhile tempers fray at the surgery over casting 'A Christmas Carol'.

Al gets a visitor from doctor friend Dave Dunham who is celebrating a split from his wife and a return to drinking. However his odd behaviour gives Al cause for concern and it becomes evident that he has a mental problem, not helped by his medication. At the surgery the final cast for 'A Christmas Carol' is announced.

Irate at seeing terminally ill father Ian in bed with professional sex worker Denise, his carer, daughter Amy Tilworth, gets the wrong idea and fears that she will be usurped in the home. It takes family friend Valerie to sort matters out. Meanwhile Karen agrees to take a boy whose mother is in hospital over Christmas and Rosie from the Vita group introduces Jimmi to her new boyfriend.

Jimmi is called in to assist DI Addison after wealthy Habiba Mansour has fallen downstairs to her death. Put-upon Malia Ibrahim, cleaner to Habiba and her husband Faizal, is arrested and charged with murder but when Jimmi interviews her the truth comes out as to what really happened. The Hollins welcome music-mad Adam Reynolds whilst artistic differences ensure that the play's first rehearsal does not run smoothly
Episode 120
Elderly Nick and Carole Parnell are unwilling to put daughter Gemma, who needs constant care, into a home despite Daniel's view that they should consider themselves. Ultimately Daniel finds a way for them to communicate and provide a partial solution. Heston gets more and more frustrated by his colleagues' ideas on improving the play with Karen suggesting that Adam gets involved.
Episode 121
Sid sees depressed Jed Fielding whose girlfriend Amber is leaving him because he is not the father of their baby. Mrs Tembe and Sid encourage her to think again and talk things over. Meanwhile Emma befriends Lena, who is helping with the play, and Rosie goes to bed with boyfriend Max - unaware that it may not have been wise.
Episode 122
The final rehearsal for the play sees the cast at loggerheads and Zara sacking Karen. Back home Karen has a heart to heart with Adam who comes out to her as well as making a surprising confession to Rob. Tyler quizzes Emma about Ayesha's mother, whom she wants to invite for Christmas whilst in the pub Jimmi is unsettled by Max's drunken behaviour.

Sid's patient Vince Richardson is desperate to return to work after an illness but Sid is reluctant to sign him off and only agrees after Vince is persistent. Following advice from Al he goes to see Vince to air his objections but help comes from an unexpected quarter. Emma and Jimmi wonder what action to take after seeing the images of Emma and Rosie Max has put on the Internet.

Barry investigates when student Kim Mertens, wheelchair bound since being stabbed in a pub fight a year earlier, receives anonymous letters containing money. When Daniel gets involved the identity of the mystery donor is revealed. Rob introduces Tyler, himself the product of the care system, to Adam, who entertains Tyler and the Hollins with his one-man show whilst Ruhma finds a way to cure Sid 's stage fright.

The staff finally perform 'A Christmas Carol' with art mirroring life as Al plays Scrooge and his colleagues double up to play a variety of roles. They are all thoroughly professional and, despite the quarrels and misgivings at rehearsals, the production is a triumph.

Former alcoholic Rick Bowcott hits the bottle again to the consternation of daughter Gemma, who asks their friend Ayesha for help. Rick however is unresponsive until he crashes his van and is forced to confess why he is drinking again. Tyler also confronts a drunk, Ayesha's mother Bren, and has to bribe her to go away but Karen's visit to hospital is altogether happier, taking Adam to see his mother Jackie prior to her hip replacement.

Karen and Adam rush to the hospital, where Jackie has had a stroke whilst Al feels dragooned into taking part in Christmas jumper day until he is complimented by attractive photographer Claudia, and Tyler has to arrest Brenda, who has got drunk on his bribe money - though he does not tell Ayesha.

Rob is called to St Olivia's school when headmistress Elaine Noah suspects that 13 year old Jasmine Wilson is being physically abused by her single mother Paulette, which Jasmine admits though Paulette claims she only smacked her once for breaking a valuable ornament. Rob has to decide which one is telling the truth. Meanwhile Rosie is distraught when Heston refuses to give her sleeping pills but Ayesha is delighted to move in with Tyler, still unaware that he is bribing her mother to stay away from her.

Heston is concerned for young Mark Hopwood, who is suffering from dizzy spells but seems to be under the influence of the fanatical Julian Crawley, leader of a religious sect the Temple of the Followers and, helped by Valerie, sets out to rescue the boy. Karen meanwhile has no joy in trying to cheer a depressed Adam, worried over his mother's help, and Jimmi is displeased when Mrs Tembe goes behind his back to arrange for a small library in the waiting room.

Jimmi visits Rosie, who seems unusually positive, given that Max Bauman has made it to the finals of his sexist contest, but when Rosie tries to confront Bauman she only makes it worse for herself. Valerie makes to Mrs Tembe her objections to a lending library whilst Adam is determined that he wants to be his disabled mother's carer despite social services belief that he should remain in care.

Ayesha feels guilty when her mother is rushed to hospital following an overdose whilst Emma is interviewed for a film about sexism on the university campus and uses the opportunity to expose Max Bauman. Meanwhile Ruhma is concerned for Maisey, a pregnant woman with learning difficulties and the mistaken belief that the baby's father will marry her and, in the process, discovers that her sister and carer Ella is as needy as Maisey herself.

Mrs Tembe takes part in a charity bake-off and helps homeless student Neil Brown find a room with fellow contestant Gill Parling though the pair get off to a bad start - until Neil wins the contest for Gill. Ayesha suggests to her mother that she moves in with her but finds that, after talking to Tyler, she has absconded from the hospital whilst a desperate Rosie gets no help when she takes her grievance to Vice-Chancellor Eustace and resorts to vandalism.

Karen and Valerie let Mrs Tembe know that they do not share her enthusiasm when the library books arrive whilst Emma is shocked to learn that Rosie intends to quit her studies and, aided by Barry and Jimmi, confronts vice-chancellor Eustace over falsifying reports of sexual harassment, forcing her to take action - including Bauman's suspension. Al visits recently orphaned friend Roly and discovers he is living in a luxurious house - but only as carer to his mother's main beneficiary, her cat, Snagglepaws. When Al is called upon to baby-sit the cat to allow Roly to go on a date both bad and good things happen.

When Bren is arrested for stealing a handbag she claims that she found it and Ayesha gives her an alibi for the theft, driving a further rift with Tyler whilst Zara is not happy to discover Mrs Tembe's new project and blames Jimmi, who has borrowed a book on Buddhism, for not consulting the other partners. Valerie tries in vain to keep her friend Jo Williams' affair from her husband Simon but when Simon meets the lover face to face Jo must make a decision for her future.

Karen argues with Rob over Adam's long-term future whilst Sid tries to help depressed, hard-drinking widower Victor Beason. In desperation Victor kidnaps and imprisons Jehovah's Witness Brianna Quinn on whose beliefs he blames his wife's death, meaning that Sid must attempt two very different forms of rescue. Meanwhile Jimmi attends his first Buddhist meeting.

Ayesha moves Bren in with herself and Tyler but is appalled when her mother steals money and Tyler's laptop and throws her out. However she is similarly disgusted to learn that Tyler bribed Bren to stay away from them and decides to move out. Meanwhile Karen is intrigued to discover that Jimmi has become interested in Buddhism but agrees to keep his secret from the other staff. Valerie finds out but Jimmi has a surprise announcement for them both.

In an effort to present Adam with the situation facing him if he looks after Jackie, Karen introduces him to teenager Shelley, who is caring for her mother. After a bad start a tentative thaw occurs when the pair partake in karaoke at a young carers' club and on return home Adam discovers Gina's plan for his future. Ayesha visits Emma to pour out her troubles but when Lena turns up it becomes a girls' night in with Ayesha hitting the bottle and needing to be put to bed. Meanwhile Jimmi, fearing Al's reaction, holds back from telling him about his plan to leave for a Buddhist retreat.
Episode 138
Ruhma sees pregnant Faye Murrell, accompanied by Conor Keywood, both teenagers, who have kept Faye's condition from Conor's mother Erin. Consequently Erin is angry not to have been told and believes she has failed as a mother. However the youngsters have a surprise for her which makes her feel a whole lot better. Mrs Tembe launches the surgery's lending library, with largely chaotic results though Daniel gives it a tentative thumbs up whilst also supporting Jimmi's decision to spend a year at a Buddhist retreat in Thailand.
Episode 139
Zara is concerned for schoolgirl Emily Jones, under pressure from single mother Tamsin to perform well in exams and persuades Tamsin to value Emily for herself rather than her achievements. Meanwhile Jimmi leaves for Thailand on less than good terms with Al whilst Sid believes that Mrs Tembe may be suffering from a hernia.
Episode 140
Ruhma and Heston are about to go to lunch when Ruhma is shown a self-help book by a patient who claims it saved her marriage. Other staff are divided by the book's contents and engage Ruhma and Heston in a role play, which only leads to general rows. Ultimately the pair reconcile without their colleagues' help but the book ends up setting Zara and Daniel at each other's throats.
Episode 141
Former lecturer Maria Glover has advanced Alzheimer's disease, to the consternation of husband Christian and family friend Daniel. But Christian has another problem - a student journalist aims to expose his caution for kerb crawling, putting his teaching job and means of supporting his wife at risk. Daniel intervenes to stop the publication but hopes he is not too late. Elsewhere Emma and Lena have an enjoyable picnic, despite the rain, and Al, angry at Jimmi's departure, lashes out at Mrs Tembe for her religious beliefs, and is forced to apologize.
Episode 142
Bethany Morris arrives at the surgery a day early for her work experience and Sid is taken aback at the degree of involvement she wants. However, when seriously ill widower Dan Burke and his recalcitrant schoolgirl daughter Georgie turn up she inadvertently comes close to increasing their division. Meanwhile Emma's spa day with Lena takes an unexpected turn.
Episode 143
Following their kiss at the spa Emma and Lena tentatively agree to carry on their affair, though Emma stresses she does not want to ruin her friendship with the married Lena whilst Sid is unnerved when Al points out that the eager to please Bethany has a crush on him. Rob is called to an antique shop where elderly widow Alice Lawson is accused of theft - only to discover that Alice is trying to replace items stolen by her late, bullying husband over the years.
Episode 144
On Valentine's Day Emma gets a bouquet from a mystery admirer whilst Sid is unsettled when Bethany gives him a card and Valerie suggests to Mrs Tembe that they try speed dating. Zara is concerned for depressed restaurateur Pete Saunders and suggests he does something spontaneous - so he decides to take a day off work and hit the bottle - to wife Wendy's dismay. When Wendy walks out on him Zara and Daniel pull together to save the restaurant and the marriage.
Episode 145
Jewish Maurice Fisher and Muslim Bashar Mafouz, who live next door to each other, are constantly bickering and bring their differences to Mrs Tembe's patients group though afterwards Maurice surprises his neighbour with a revelation from the past and when Maurice has a heart attack Bashar breaks his vow never to cross a Jew's doorstep. Al marshals his team for the pub quiz where, much to his annoyance, Ayesha proves to be the star player but Sid is relieved to be off the hook where Bethany is concerned.
Episode 146
Autistic Alfie Allsop comes to the surgery following an injury when he was mugged. He has left home in Lincolnshire without telling his mother to live with his student sister Erin and cannot understand why she will not let him. Sid must intervene to explain to Alfie why and restore family relations. Ayesha gets a double shock as she learns Tyler has left town without telling her and also walks in on Emma kissing Lena whilst the Hollins prepare Adam to return to his mother, as she leaves hospital.
Episode 147
Heston's friend and patient, surgeon Graham Eardley, comes to the surgery but claims it is purely to placate his worry-prone wife Jean and that he is fine. However Jean tells Heston her husband has had a seizure, something Graham flatly denies. When it happens again Heston is called out to find out which partner is lying. Meanwhile Valerie tricks a bemused Mrs Tembe into going pheromone dating, mating prospective partners through their choice of scent - and one of them makes an unexpected match. Elsewhere Karen and Rob finally say goodbye to Adam.
Episode 148
Visiting her nervous friend Glenda at the charity shop where she works Valerie discovers a brooch in the pocket of a donated coat but when the women try to return it to its owner there is an unexpected reaction, leading to Glenda triumphing over her bullying boss. Meanwhile Al hears that his father has died and Lena leaves her husband Steven after admitting to her affair with Emma.
Episode 149
Fearful of her mother's violent boyfriend Gary Thomas schoolgirl Jade seeks the advice of her friend, gang leader Dani, leading to a confrontation with Thomas, which almost goes wrong for her. Fortunately Rob is on hand to help. Meanwhile Emma is worried about the effect of her affair on Lena's young daughter Amy and, after a hair-raising experience, Ruhma volunteers Heston to teach Shak to drive.
Episode 150
Ayesha's patient, elderly Reg Manning, clutters his house with his late mother's belongings but he soon falls out with his new lodger, slovenly Frank Prescott, another hoarder, leading to them both suffering mishaps and requiring Ayesha's intervention. Meanwhile Valerie discovers Emma's secret after Amy comes to the surgery accusing the doctor of destroying her parents' marriage and Mrs Tembe is rushed to hospital after a fall.
Episode 151
Schoolboy Logan Pinkett sets out to help his cash-strapped father Scott, estranged from Logan's mother, by selling Scott's legal highs to fellow pupils, leading to hospital admissions, including Logan's. Daniel decides to investigate. Elsewhere in the hospital Mrs Tembe recovers from her hernia operation to find porter J J Kenwright is not only her pheromone match but shares her literary tastes whilst Lena rows with Emma and returns to her husband.
Episode 152
Visiting Mrs Tembe on the ward Heston meets former colleague, surgeon Charles Gupta, who admits to feeling lonely, giving Heston an idea. Mrs Tembe herself is appalled by the poor quality of the hospital's food and decides to take action whilst Ruhma witnesses an unhealthy revenge tactic when bossy mother-to-be Melanie Wilson and her subdued husband Lawrence invite her to join them for a second wedding photo only a month after their tying the knot.
Episode 153
At the gym Ayesha meets ambitious athlete Beth Harrison and recognizes that something is wrong but Beth denies it and refuses to see a doctor, despite the concerns of coach Jason Summers. When Beth collapses on the track Ayesha forces her to face up to the truth. Meanwhile Mrs Tembe impresses JJ with her culinary skills in the hospital kitchen and she, surprisingly, is not shocked when he admits to having four children by four different women whilst Sid overhears Zara and Daniel discussing likely budget cuts and fears for his job. Karen's main concern, however, is mastering the hula hoop.
Episode 154
Barry investigates when a building on the university campus due to be demolished appears to be haunted and meets fashion lecturer Teresa McKenna, who is looking for some of her teaching tapes. She tells Barry that there is a friendly ghost called George, who died there after an accident. Barry leaves but realizes he has left his keys in the building but, after a heart to heart with George, his keys suddenly reappear.
Episode 155
Elderly, wealthy Mrs Merriam is brought to the surgery by Kabali, a Namibian man she has recently befriended and who acts as her carer but, following a tactless comment from Valerie, he disappears. Zara is concerned when Mrs Merriam refuses to call the police and sets about uncovering the truth about Kabali. Meanwhile Daniel is at a camping equipment shop with Joe and steps in when another customer collapses. Unfortunately Daniel is unable to save him and is worried that Joe, who saw everything, will regard him as a failure.
Episode 156
Abigail Belford learns that her long estranged daughter Sally has recently died and visits Sally's partner Paul after he contacts her. However Heston discovers that Sally is still alive and is punishing her mother for a traumatic incident in their past. A frightening truth then emerges. After seeing a disturbing drawing by Joe of the man he failed to save Daniel visits the widow Sarah Millen. She is initially sympathetic - until annoying salesman Brian Cavendish turns up, holding Daniel responsible for the death. Mrs Tembe finally leaves hospital, thanking JJ for his support and promising that she will inform the hospital board of her suggestions for food improvement.
Episode 157
Rob investigates a burglary, his prime suspect being groundsman Pat Fairhurst, and clashes with police doctor William Chesterton for informing drunken, distraught Henry Samuels that his wife was killed in the course of the crime. However it is Dr Chesterton who provides proof of what really happened. Zara tries in vain to reassure Daniel, who fears he will be struck off following the Millen death but it is Sid who provides the most comfort whilst Ruhma visits Mrs Tembe at home and invites her to a dinner party.
Episode 158
Al returns from compassionate leave but he and Daniel get trapped in Daniel's car when the electric controls break down, leading to an improved relationship as they open up to each other. Karen is alone in the surgery when student Guy brings in wheelchair bound girlfriend Amy, who has had an asthma attack. However thy are not what they seem and Karen sets out to thwart them. Meanwhile Valerie has an embarrassing encounter with the photo-copier and is grateful to kindly repair man Maj for his discretion.
Episode 159
Heston and Ruhma hold their Casablanca themed dinner party and whilst they bicker with each other Mrs Tembe and Charles delight in each other's company. A despondent Daniel meanwhile gets drunk and rushes to Sarah Millen's house but when he sees her crying through the window he returns home to be consoled by Zara. Things are no better for Al when his visiting mother Eve calls him negative and they seem to have no common ground.
Episode 160
Rob arrests Terry Saunders for burgling ex-wife Janette and new partner Mike Grealish but releases him when Terry explains that he only took the things for which he paid when he lived in their house. Mike however picks a fight with Terry, telling Rob that Terry is constantly stalking Janette and Rob must persuade the aggrieved ex-spouse the it is time to move on. Mrs Tembe accepts a dinner date with Charles but Karen is perturbed to find Al is spying on Eve with CCTV and Daniel's visit to Sarah yields a welcome result.
Episode 161
Ayesha is visiting elderly Lenny McTavish when his son Dylan bursts in, injured in a robbery, and holds her hostage, demanding she treats him, though he plainly needs to go to hospital. Fortunately there is another family member who can see sense and releases her. Emma returns to work and joins Karen in upbraiding Al for his attitude towards his mother whilst Mrs Tembe goes on a dinner date with Charles and accepts another invitation.
Episode 162
Sid bumps into his old friend Johnny Witham with Sid's patient Laura and assumes that they are a couple so he is surprised to find Johnny is a platonic escort for lonely people. When Johnny suggests a date with Laura for free she does not react as hoped and Sid needs to hear her side of things before the pair can get closer. Mrs Tembe is waiting for Charles at the hospital and is pleased to meet J.J. and rekindle their love of books whilst Daniel plans a family camping holiday and Al says goodbye to Eve with their relationship only partially resolved.
Episode 163
Emma takes India Jebson to the surgery after she collapses in the street and is violently sick. India's friend Caz arrives but India is not keen to see her and Emma jabs herself whilst taking a blood sample from India, who has just returned from Thailand. As India is taken to hospital Ayesha suspects that she was working as a drugs mule whilst Sid continues to fear for his future.
Episode 164
Ayesha sits at India's bedside and learns the truth about her being a drugs mule, advising her to do the right thing. Emma sits at home awaiting the blood test result and is greatly relieved to hear the outcome. Meanwhile Valerie discovers Donald Slater, former chair of the Patients Group sleeping in a skip. Everybody assumes he is drunk, having celebrated his divorce but he has had a stroke and Valerie is grateful for Al's intervention.
Episode 165
In a restaurant Emma steps in to support waitress Bella West when obnoxious customer Billy Chopra recognizes her as a lap dancer, losing Bella her job. When Chopra is later robbed Bella is accused but Emma and Rob are not convinced and uncover the truth, whilst Emma reconciles Bella with her disapproving mother. Sid, still fearful for his job, hears good news when he calls on his old mentor Claire whilst Mrs Tembe and Charles attend the opera, where he makes disparaging remarks about J.J., who is also there. Consequently Mrs Tembe decides which of the two men she wants to see again and asks J.J. for a lunch date.
Episode 166
Chloe Finegan is concerned that her domineering mother Gloria will spoil her young son Thomas's birthday party and when Thomas falls ill with food poisoning Gloria is quick to blame his other grandma June 's home made cooking. Al discovers not only that Gloria's contribution to the food was the cause but that Gloria herself has a real medical problem. Elsewhere Mrs Tembe's misgivings about her lunch date with J.J. disappear when they discover a mutual love of motor-bikes and Heston is less than pleased when Ruhma invites a love-lorn Charles to share their Italian holiday.
Episode 167
Al is seeing Luke Darrow, a schoolboy who believes he has existed in a past life when his father Frank bursts in, knocking Karen down and getting arrested by Rob. Returning Luke's satchel to his mother Ellen Karen becomes convinced by Luke 's claim as a result of which Rob uncovers a disturbing truth from the family's past. Meanwhile Sid interviews for a job with Claire but his failure to get it leaves him feeling despondent and doubtful of his worth as a doctor.
Episode 168
Neil Harrison lies in an apparent coma following a brain haemorrhage. He is fully aware of what is going on around him but cannot speak and Daniel is not hopeful for a recovery. Neil, however, is determined to fight back and prove to his wife and son his desire to live. Elsewhere Mrs Tembe and J.J. find romance over motor cycle maintenance and Ayesha is concerned when Al; has a blinding headache.
Episode 169
Gay couple Lenny and Tom approach Ayesha's cousin Kayleigh, an old friend of Lenny's, to be their surrogate mother but Ayesha disapproves, feeling she is doing it for the wrong reasons. When the boys fall out over who should be the sperm donor, a revelation from Kayleigh's past justifies Ayesha's fears. Meanwhile Sid is reassured that his future is safe, despite hints dropped by Valerie, who is also rebuked by Emma for prying into her private life.
Episode 170
Journalist Rose Gilborne harasses Al's patient Robert Lomax, an angina sufferer, even though the rape charge against him collapsed. Cash-strapped neighbour Lynn Buckley claims that Robert molested her in the hopes of getting money from Rose and the resultant stress puts Robert in hospital. Al intervenes to find out the truth. Zara and Daniel's camp site proves to be a rip-off whilst Mrs Tembe gives Valerie a warning since her gossip made Sid believe he would lose his job.
Episode 171
When waterworks close the surgery Karen, alone at the desk, has to treat young workman Andrei, who has burnt himself and fears that he is being bullied by possessive foreman Malcolm Holder. However it transpires that Malcolm is trying to protect his drug-addicted colleague and when the lad robs the surgery for drugs Karen must persuade Malcolm that covering for him will not help in the long run. Elsewhere Jimmi returns to work to the delight of all but Al, who blames him for not keeping in touch and the Granger-Carmichaels swap the camp site for a plush hotel, which Daniel suspects Zara had planned all along.
Episode 172
Ruhma is shocked when a girl called Zoe turns up, claiming to be pregnant by her son Shak but Ruhma is suspicious and calls her bluff. J.J. takes Mrs Tembe to a heavy metal gig to meet his biker friends, which, after an awkward start, ironically strengthens their relationship whilst Al continues to berate Jimmi, who also has to fend off a pass by a drunken, lonely Emma.
Episode 173
Whilst awaiting her breast cancer check Zara meets Thea Ridley and her husband Vince and is surprised to learn that Vince is the patient and discovers that he needs her support to explain to his wife exactly how he feels. Al patches things up with Jimmi but Daniel gives Valerie a final warning and Emma sinks deeper into depression.
Episode 174
Jimmi keeps from the partners Emma's attempted overdose but there is still concern for her welfare with Zara surprisingly offering support. Ayesha meets an old friend Martha and helps her locate Tony Marshall, the boy-friend she abandoned with their child but the reunion is not a happy one.
Episode 175
A nervous Sid attends a positivity course where he meets the distraught Janet Wilkins, who is drunk following her husband's leaving her for another woman. His attempts to cheer her lead to his learning positives about himself - and a surprise. Elsewhere Al refuses to open up to Jimmi about his troubles whilst Mrs Tembe tries to reassure J.J. that she is not ashamed to be with him.
Episode 176
Touring the country in their camper van the Shawcross family arrives at the surgery when mother Jess suffers from dizzy spells though she claims that nothing is wrong with her. However teen-aged son Finn tells Valerie that she has cancer and Daniel must discover why he thinks this the case. Ayesha's younger brother Karl turns up literally on her doorstep whilst Mrs Tembe's unusually good mood sets her colleagues wondering.
Episode 177
Restaurateur Andreas Drivas, who, like his business is ailing, refuses to sell to Billy Cowan, the estate agent next door, despite his son Theo's concerns for his father's health. An arson attack on the restaurant leads to Andreas attacking Billy and they are both arrested but Jimmi and Rob between them learn what really happened from Theo. A miserable Karl takes to his bed after being dumped by his fiancée but an upbeat Mrs Tembe tells Ruhma about her romance with J.J.
Episode 178
Bride-to-be Katie Millar is told by Emma that she is pregnant, only to suffer a miscarriage. However Valerie believes Katie is fabricating her forthcoming wedding and groom to impress the followers on her video blog - and is proved right. JJ meanwhile feels snubbed when, in town with him, Mrs Tembe fails to introduce him to Zara and so gives her an ultimatum.
Episode 179
Rob attends the stag night for young constable Dave Bereton, along with colleagues including the feisty Anita, with whom he has been having an affair. When he ends it she wants revenge but Rob makes her see that Dave is not worth it. Mrs Tembe introduces JJ to her female friends with mixed reactions whilst Ayesha complains of Karl's lethargy to Al, who bribes her into attending his father's memorial service.
Episode 180
Al persuades Ayesha to accompany him to his father's memorial service to advise on Eve's welfare. He is nervous, recalling how his father's strictness caused his rebellious streak and repairs to the pub. Here he meets the cheery Frances, who knew the family and who gives him an insight into his father's life, leading to closure and making a new friend. Meanwhile Ayesha gets on famously with Eve, who she discovers is far more realistic than Al supposes and is not the Haskey with a problem.
Episode 181
Following a visit from the police Ayesha confronts Karl, suspecting he is an army deserter but learns that he has a medical problem whilst Mrs Tembe sets off on her holiday with J.J., leaving Karen and Valerie worried about his intentions. Sid visits elderly Gwen Bempton, terminally ill but fiercely independent, who is awaiting a visit from her high-flying son Eddie on what she believes will be her last day on Earth. Sid, however, has to tell her the truth about Eddie.
Episode 182
Ruhma must comfort Gemma McCormick and her family after her baby is stillborn and joins them in a celebration of a brief life whilst Karl reluctantly goes to see Jimmi, and Zara angers Daniel with a hoax rumour about Valerie and himself, a rumour which has unexpected results.
Episode 183
When drugs mule Chas Martell is rushed to hospital after the bag in his stomach has burst Emma and Rob are convinced his crooked uncle Billy, a car crash patient, is involved. However nurse Rachel Lambert and doctor Kel Ames have their own drugs racket going and Rachel and Billy have a history. Then the confiscated drugs are stolen from the cabinet. Elsewhere Ayesha is not satisfied when Jimmi can find nothing wrong with Karl and approaches Emma, who suggests chronic fatigue syndrome whilst Daniel challenges Zara to be nicer to everybody.
Episode 184
Questioned by Rob, Rachel and Kel deny removing the drugs but Billy is convinced that Kel has them and threatens him. Rachel however has a plan to dispose of violent ex-lover Billy which shocks Kel but Rob is wise to her, whilst Billy learns a terrible lesson as a consequence. Meanwhile Jimmi books a team building session for his male colleagues and Sid makes a break-through with Karl.
Episode 185
Al, Jimmi, Daniel and Sid arrive at the Bear reservation run by Jimmi's eccentric friend Skip and find that he expects them to construct and enter a Native American style sweat lodge. Rather than team-building they end up squabbling - but are united in their low opinion of Skip. Things are no better for Emma and Zara when their car breaks down en route to a conference. With no phone signal and insulted by a passing motorist they are rescued by lonely farmer Graham. However they find him decidedly weird and take drastic action to escape.
Episode 186
Arriving late for a conference in which they have no interest Emma and Zara, thanks to a lie on Zara's part, have a relaxing day in the spa, where Zara proves herself to be a sympathetic listener. She also gets revenge on the cheeky youngster who insulted her the day before. Al sets out to expose Skip as a fraud but is surprised by the reaction, leading to an unusual change of heart, and a sudden burst of enthusiasm and openness.
Episode 187
Kim Marshall is delighted when her test results show she is HIV negative and invites Karen to help her celebrate along with her religious sister Suze and adopted son Zack. However the festivities are soured when Kim discovers a monstrous lie on Suze's part to punish her for her past life and Karen must help her to deal with it. Karl meets up with fellow chronic fatigue syndrome sufferer Jude but it results in his falling out with Ayesha whilst Valerie comes a cropper whilst investigating mice in the surgery roof.
