Episode 1
Jill Kellam brings her teen-aged son Leo to see Daniel as the boy has suicidal impulses and fears that he may have inherited them from his father, who killed himself two years earlier. Zara tells Daniel that this is impossible as Leo was adopted but Jill insists that Daniel not tell Leo as it would destroy him. In fact Leo's guilt is caused by Jill being rather too much of a loving mother as Daniel finds out. Elsewhere Karen insists on a proper courtship with Rob whilst Chris angrily rejects his mother's concern for his recent behaviour.
Episode 2
Protective single father Owen Abbot feels that his 21-year old son Alfie, who has Asperger's syndrome, is holding a secret back from him and is angry with Mandy for not revealing it to him. He is shocked and disbelieving when Alfie comes out as gay and Mandy needs to act as peace-maker. Meanwhile Kevin is puzzled when forward Lally Quinn claims she has met him on a dating web-site to which he knows that he does not subscribe. It turns out to be a ploy as Lally is infatuated with him and he flees from her flat.
Episode 3
Zara is puzzled when two different women both claim that they are Gavin Hardcastle's mistress, believing the other to be his wife. In the event he is not married at all and Zara is angry that all are content for him to actually marry one and have the other as his lover. Meanwhile Jimmi sees Chris after he has got himself beaten up in a fight again but Emma stops her son before he can tell Jimmi the reason for his self-destructive actions and Karen admits to therapist Anna that she has yet to feel any maternal instincts towards her children.
Episode 4
Mrs Tembe accompanies her recently widowed friend Mrs Bonici to the gym where she and her husband Angelo had joint membership and when Gary, the arrogant young gym manager, refuses a refund they take drastic action to show that, whilst dead, Angelo still has every right to use the equipment. Meanwhile Karen and Rob get thrown out of a snobbish restaurant, which only serves to unite them further, whilst Chris confesses all to Jimmi, who implies that he will be telling the police.
Episode 5
Shy student Saffron Archibald asks out the desirable Ben and, to make herself seem more glamorous, uses a new tanning product but it has an adverse effect when she overdoes it, leading to her collapsing at a band gig and requiring the intervention of Al. Karen agrees to baby-sit for the Grangers but asks Rob round and Zara is annoyed when she returns to find the drunken pair getting amorous on her sofa whilst Chris announces that he is going to give himself up to the police.
Episode 6
Ex-policeman Roy Marlin becomes obsessed with mysterious new neighbours Amy and Phil, convincing himself that they are criminals and making a fool of himself until Rob points out that they are on a witness protection scheme having seen the murderer of their son. Meanwhile Zara is frosty to Karen after the previous night, Emma and Jimmi dissuade Chris from turning himself in and Howard, due to a misunderstanding, falls foul of Gill Chadwick, whom he sees breast-feeding her baby in the waiting room.
Episode 7
When Daniel visits his old mentor Tom he is dismayed to find that Tom is considering leaving his disabled wife Sally for his first love with whom he has recently reconnected. Fortunately Daniel is able to make him think again. Meanwhile Chris prepares to leave for a job in Australia and, following his run-in with Gill Chadwick, Howard finds the waiting area full of nursing mothers and a press photographer on hand to portray him as sexist.
Episode 8
When widower Andy Kay brings his young son Liam to the surgery Andy has a bite on his neck, caused by a spider from the greengrocers where he was working. Andy is taken to hospital but the spider goes on the loose, causing panic among the staff, though fortunately Mrs Tembe knows just how to deal with it. Meanwhile, with Chris leaving, Emma decides to down-size but assures Karen she will not be homeless whilst, faced with adverse publicity following his confrontation with the breast-feeding women, Howard delegates Zara to smooth over the situation.
Episode 9
Mandy sees new mother Rachel Fuller, who feels inadequate and in the shadow of her mother-in-law as she cannot satisfy her baby since breast-feeding hurts her. Mandy suggests she attend the group Zara has set up to combat the accusations levelled against Howard which will educate in the ways of feeding. Meanwhile, despite Chris's protests, Barry organizes a rousing farewell party and Chris and his mother part on excellent, if tearful, terms. Afterwards Emma sees an estate agent to value her house but, following a misunderstanding, decides against selling after all.
Episode 10
Kevin goes to the aid of Michael Faulks, injured when ice falls from a plane in the sky onto his car and takes him to hospital where Michael confesses his fear that his wife Emily is about to leave him. When Emily announces that she is pregnant Kevin steps in to rescue the marriage. Meanwhile Emma and Karen plan an underwear party and Zara feels inspired, wrongly believing that she has given Rachel hope.
Episode 11
Rachel returns to the surgery, still experiencing problems with breast-feeding. Emma spots and rectifies the trouble, incurring the wrath of Zara, who accuses her of trying to steal her patients. Howard is approached by old friend Marilyn Pelham, a cancer survivor whose son Bailey left the army in order to look after her. She fears that he has become lethargic though when Howard speaks to him he sees the only problem to be Marilyn's obsession with getting him a girlfriend. However a chat with Marilyn reveals that she has her own unselfish agenda.
Episode 12
Jimmi attends to Sam Purnell, a boy who has been assaulted by teenage siblings Davie and Ellen Rigbey but gets a shock when he finds that Sam is a girl who identifies as being male and passed herself off as a boy to date Ellen. When Ellen claims that she was deceived into having sex Jimmi dissuades her from pursuing matters whilst advising Sam on where to get help. He is also perturbed to find that the police have brought in a man called Josh for no apparent reason. Emma's underwear party starts well. However Mrs Tembe, expecting a sale of kitchen appliances, is shocked and walks out whilst Karen has a sudden memory of Zara having sex with Jack and hits her. Emma is relieved when the party is over.
Episode 13
Still angry about the lingerie party Mrs Tembe goes to the church, where she has a run-in with Josh, the man Jimmi saw at the police station, though later she dissuades him from killing himself by jumping off a roof and talks him down before the police arrive. Rob is puzzled when he interviews Aliska Levchenko, whom he believes to be a sex slave who has escaped from her pimps. She is not anxious to talk and he soon discovers why. Meanwhile back at the surgery the short list for Jas's successor is down to two, breezy, talkative Niamh Donoghue and quiet, geeky Fallon Macauley, who impresses Al with her knowledge of comic books.
Episode 14
Karen plans a sexy evening with Rob but is disappointed when he does his back in and, when he starts to talk about early retirement, she storms out. Mrs Tembe learns that Josh is a convicted rapist and is initially shocked but sees that she is being uncharitable and agrees to see him again. Meanwhile Zara persuades Howard to let her enrol on a breast feeding educational course - and to take Kevin with her.
Episode 15
Spoilt brat Bethany Craig annoys her mother Judith by dating loutish Dion but is herself angry when he films them having sex with a view to posting it on the Internet. Mandy rallies mother and daughter to combine to teach the lad a lesson. Karen and Rob have a romantic day out whilst Mrs Tembe meets Josh for tea and agrees to help him but recoils when he touches her hand.
Episode 16
Emma feels sorry for single mother Lucy Coombs, who has lost her benefits as the agency do not believe she is looking for work, and been arrested for refusing to leave the benefits office. Emma tries to intervene to help Lucy and her ex-husband Cameron but is thwarted by Lucy's violent attitude towards Cameron. Al meanwhile is disappointed to find Niamh, rather than Fallon, is his new colleague. However when he helps her out with a diagnosis and she thanks him with a kiss he starts to change his opinion.
Episode 17
Thomas Hazikimana's wife Brenda makes him see Daniel after he suffers nightmares and hallucinations. Thomas has told Brenda he is from Uganda but is actually from Rwanda and his nightmares are caused by memories of how he witnessed a massacre from which he was lucky to escape. Kevin feels embarrassed as the only male at the breast-feeding course but is much cheered by the presence of Dr LaToya Jeffries who asks for his phone number and Al has lunch with Niamh. She tells him that she shopped her father for large scale theft, prompting Al to tell her about Jas.
Episode 18
When elderly dementia sufferer Charlie Doyle has a fall his carer brings in Al, who is shocked when the old man confesses to killing his wife thirty years earlier. Charlie wanders off and Al locates him at the house under which he claims he buried his wife though at first Al is unconvinced of his guilt - until more evidence comes to light. Meanwhile Rob takes Karen clay pigeon shooting, at which she proves extremely good, and Mrs Tembe and Josh start to find common ground on a visit to an art gallery.

Episode 19
Kevin returns to his old school to give a careers talk, meeting two other ex-pupils, abrasive pilot Nicola Smithson and decent but nervous lawyer Adam Batty. Adam's talk begins badly but he turns it into an attack on bullying, particularly by the current head, who made his life a misery, and gets a round of applause. Emma and Niamh plan a girls' night out whilst Mrs Tembe asks Rob for his advice.
Episode 20
Special constable Howard pursues an intruder into a darkened art gallery and joins incompetent security guard Jett in catching him, only to find that he is less interested in stealing than in proving a point. Meanwhile Karen and Rob's romantic meal turns sour when he gets a call for help from Immie and accuses Karen of lacking maternal feelings and Emma accompanies Niamh to a disco, where she feels old and miserable - until she meets the charming Gareth.
Episode 21
Heston gets a visit from sales rep Angelica Harley, an old flame who married his school friend Bennie, though she tells Heston that they are now separated and she is concerned about him. Heston visits and finds Bennie drinking heavily and gambling. He professes to feel contrite about his treatment of Angelica but Heston catches him out. Having enjoyed her one night stand with Gareth Emma is none too pleased when he arrives at the surgery trying to sell her a hot tub whilst Mrs Tembe and Josh have another day out .
Episode 22
Following their spat Rob cancels his date with Karen so she spends a pleasant evening with Mrs Tembe, who advises her to tell Rob about her reticence over accepting her children. Emma, meanwhile, hosts a dinner party for the other doctors to welcome Niamh, which starts badly until Niamh saves the situation with home made dolls and Irish coffee. Unfortunately a surfeit of drink causes Al to deliver a few home truths to the others, ending the evening on a sour note.
Episode 23
Kevin makes a home visit to the elderly Websters but needs their son Gary to let him in and finds the old man dead and his wife at death's door though she is revived in hospital. Suffering from terminal illnesses they had decided to commit suicide together but Kevin helps Gary out by declaring the deaths to be accidental. Meanwhile Zara has a run-in with cheeky Jade Jackman, a pregnant teenager whom she tells to stop smoking as it is bad for her asthma and her unborn child. However Jade thinks she knows it all and leaves. Karen admits to her therapist Anna that she wishes she could be more maternal towards her children but when Anna suggests a family session Karen is unsure if Rob still wants to be with her.
Episode 24
Mandy consoles middle-aged Ruby and Ivan Slade whose only child has recently died but is surprised when Ruby announces a desire to get pregnant again, using her 'snow babies', embryos stored at the IVF clinic. In fact another pregnancy could seriously endanger her life and Ivan has the embryos destroyed. Meanwhile Mrs Tembe deeply offends Josh by asking his reasons for being a rapist and Zara persuades Jade and her friends to attend a one day event on breast feeding.
Episode 25
Bombastic gas engineer Gary Matthews comes to work at the surgery with his put-upon apprentice Kate but when Gary has a stroke Heston is impressed by Kate's ability to spot the symptoms which will save him. Elsewhere Niamh's further request for help from Al leads to Howard suggesting that Al becomes her mentor whilst Rob is not enthusiastic when Karen proposes a family group therapy session.
Episode 26
Student Penny fears that her new boyfriend Dorian may be gay as he refuses to have sex with her. In fact he is terrified of being seen nude as he developed man-boobs in puberty though at their well- man clinic Niamh and Kevin give him help and hope. Meanwhile Karen confesses that she is afraid to face Jack, given that she kissed him before she knew who he was and Mandy accuses Zara of being patronizing when the doctor enlists her help to speak to Jade and her friends.
Episode 27
Stevie Shields calls into Kevin's drop-in centre complaining of back-ache which she attributes to slipping on spilt tea at her mother's retirement home. Mandy and Kevin, however, rightly suspect that she is faking it in order to claim compensation from the home's owner Mrs Haywood as the bills for her mother's care are crippling her and her boyfriend Luke. Eventually the stress of the deception gives Stevie a panic attack, which exposes genuine symptoms of other illnesses. Then she receives further bad news which negates the need for a compensation claim.
Episode 28
Daniel finds himself being asked for advice by Connor Cranson, a talented art student unsure as to whether to take up a design post in Leeds or stay in Letherbridge with his pregnant girlfriend Livvy. Meanwhile Emma books herself on a yoga retreat whilst Zara's breast-feeding talk is a success, though largely because of the goody bags she gives her audience, one of whom tries to steal her designer shoes.
Episode 29
Rob arrests Anita, a cheeky eleven year old, for bag-snatching but he and Jimmi are perturbed by bruising on her arms. Both Anita and her mother Mel blame Mel's ex-boyfriend until Anita confesses that she is part of a juvenile gang of thieves organized by Mel, who punishes her for failure. Mrs Tembe agrees to carry on seeing Josh whilst Emma finds yoga hard going and needs to be rescued by the instructor Adam but Rob blanks Karen when she calls at the police station to discuss family therapy.
Episode 30
Mandy's patient, wealthy widow Mary Donaldson, has taken unemployed Tony as her lodger and prospective lover and Mandy is concerned that he is after Mary's money, However when an old friend of Mary's turns out to be the real gold digger Tony proves Mandy wrong and rises to the occasion. Elsewhere Mrs Tembe defends her decision to befriend Josh against a suspicious Jimmi and Emma and Adam hit it off as both discover that they have recently lost their spouses.
Episode 31
Al sees a strange young man lighting a fire by the surgery and he tells Al that he has been chosen to help him save the world. The boy disappears but two policemen turn up to say that this is Neil McEwen, who escaped from a psychiatric unit and is dangerous. Despite Niamh's warnings not to get involved Al decides to return Neil to the hospital without telling anybody but on the way Neil stops and wants Al help him light a huge bonfire to attract aliens. Learning that a previous bonfire cost several lives and with Neil sloshing petrol everywhere Al has to ring Niamh to alert the police and rescue him.
Episode 32
Zara's old flame Edwin Caloux approaches her, desperate to borrow money as his drug addicted son Toby owes huge debts and is being held to ransom by his gangster dealers. However Zara cannot help and has to let Edwin go off to face the gang. Karen disappears but turns up at Jack's flat, where she apologizes for having kissed him before she knew who he was. This clears the air and paves the way for a family get-together.
Episode 33
Having identified Edwin's body Zara tracks down Toby to make him name the killers. Toby is hostile and selfishly unconcerned about his father's fate, lashing out at Zara. Fortunately Daniel rescues her and they persuade Toby to go to the police. Meanwhile the Hollins family get-together is almost derailed when Immy overhears Karen talking about kissing Jack and Mrs Tembe introduces Josh to Viv Marchant. He tells her about some of his crimes but, unbeknown to Mrs Tembe, stops short of mentioning the rape.
Episode 34
Self-absorbed teenager Ryan Jones spends all his time in his room on his computer, to the dismay of his single parent mother Sue. Then Niamh discovers that he has set up a blog purporting to have terminal cancer and is receiving cash donations. Niamh makes him return the money but after she has gone his supposed contrition quickly evaporates as he sends a mysterious message to a friend. In the Hollins' house an art installation by Immy impresses Karen and brings the family closer.
Episode 35
Daniel's patient Victoria Franks is being harassed by violent neighbour Callum Matthias, who believes she is harbouring her paedophile son David though she threw him out when she discovered his crimes. Daniel steps in when Callum barges his way into Victoria's house though there is a truce after Callum has explained his own experiences of sexual abuse to an understanding Victoria. Niamh discovers that student Ed is stealing his grandmother's pain-killers, apparently to sell to friends, whilst Karen organizes a family fishing trip to thank Rob for doing all the housework.
Episode 36
Ryan Jones lies to his mother when he claims that two friends are coming round to revise but they are Ed Walker, who stole his grandmother's pills, and a boy from another school Max. Niamh deduces from various pieces of evidence that the trio have met through the Internet, all are depressives and are about to go through with a suicide and, helped by Al, she manages to save them. Karen meanwhile shows her maternal instincts when she sticks up for Jack against a bullying attendant at a bowling alley.
Episode 37
Mrs Tembe helps Dougie McClurgy decorate his mother's bedroom while she is in hospital but unfortunately they throw out her old mattress, containing her £50,000 life savings and have to pay a tramp to retrieve it though it also heals a family rift. Karen starts to remember scenes from her past life when she looks at the family photo album whilst Adam Grundy turns up to take Emma on a date.
Episode 38
When widowed patient Margaret Plumber accuses Al of groping her he assumes she is wanting to sue for compensation but a conversation with Daniel leads to his learning the truth behind her actions. Meanwhile Mrs Tembe is impressed when Josh cooks for her and Emma's sexy weekend with Adam inspires Howard to get back onto the dating scene, turning to the Internet when all his old flames are spoken for.
Episode 39
Formerly deaf Iona Wyatt is suffering from side effects following an operation to restore her hearing but she also feels guilty that she has not told her best friend Brooke, who is still deaf, about her change in circumstances in case Brooke feels she has betrayed her. Iona's boyfriend Jamie and Daniel convince her that she should not have the operation reversed purely out of guilt. Howard finds he has an admirer in policewoman Annie Harris whilst Heston is worried that there is a poltergeist in his house.
Episode 40
Kevin's widowed cousin Shelley wants him to help her sixteen year old son Connor admit to being gay after he rejects girlfriend Leanne's advances. In fact Kevin deduces that the boy is fond of Leanne but is asexual, having no carnal desires for men or women. Howard's date with Annie goes well as does Emma's with Adam, though she is irritated by her refusal to have arguments, and Mrs Tembe gives Josh both a cooking lesson and her address.
Episode 41
Security guard Barry is amazed to get a visit from the heavily pregnant Agnieszka, a dancer at a club he visited, who claims that he is the baby's father. Mandy is suspicious, especially when her pimp Marcus turns up. Barry is not the child's father but delivers him all the same as well as arranging with Jimmi to get mother and baby away from Marcus. Emma meanwhile continues to be irked by Adam's refusal to argue whilst Jimmi warns Mrs Tembe not to get too involved with Josh.
Episode 42
After five miscarriages Niamh's patient Kara Meredith has persuaded her 50 year old mother Diane Larkin to be her surrogate. But trouble arises when Diane, who lost her son in an accident some years earlier, decides she wants to keep the baby for herself and Kara's angry reaction comes close to jeopardising the birth. Heston meanwhile feels that he is having too many senior moments and Emma is surprised to find Adam teaching Karen and Mandy yoga in her house.
Episode 43
Elderly Alice Swanson suffers from Alzheimers. Her carer Lauren goes to buy her fish and chips but is mugged and the police are called but Alice has no idea what has happened and starts to cook a meal for herself, causing a fire. Rob and Jimmi are involved and Jimmi must decide what best to do for her future. Meanwhile Mrs Tembe invites Josh for dinner at her house but when she suggests that he goes for a job in catering her persistence annoys him and he becomes verbally aggressive towards her.
Episode 44
Pregnant history student Anna Muller is delighted to find a diary belonging to her grandmother, Ilse, who was known in the family for being a concentration camp survivor, but when it transpires that Ilse was a guard and not a prisoner Anna is convinced that evil runs in the family and requests a termination. Emma persuades her that hers is an extreme reaction to coming off anti-depressants and dissuades her whilst Mrs Tembe gives Josh an alibi when he is accused of a recent rape and she berates the police for jumping to conclusions solely because of Josh's past.
Episode 45
Heston comforts Jodie and Liam, a young couple whose baby, Kyle, has just died. When a policewoman suggests that Jodie's drinking is responsible Heston defends her but when Liam supplies the truth as to what really happened it does anything but unite the pair. Annie takes Howard on an orienteering treasure hunt where they agree to differ over attitudes to work whilst Rob is elated when Karen asks to move back in with him.
Episode 46
Mandy befriends injured Kim Wells and they hit it off, having similar music tastes and the same sexual orientation. But Kim has a useless ex-husband, Damian, with a gambling habit, who kidnaps their 8 year old son as surety for a debt. Mandy saves the situation but a future friendship between the women seems doubtful. Annie and Howard meet Emma and Adam by chance at the same restaurant but Annie and Adam are not amused to learn that Emma had an 'open' marriage and dated Howard during her husband's lifetime. They also seem more interested in each other's conversations than in their partners and leave together.
Episode 47
Kevin's patients, white witch Geoff Smith and wheelchair-bound Celia Birks live next door to each other and used to be friends but since Celia's accident they have fallen out and are feuding with each other. Kevin steps in to restore the peace. Meanwhile Niamh's efforts to match-make Emma and Howard come to nothing and Zara finds herself battling with an overly brisk midwife when Jade Jackman has difficulty giving birth and needs a hospital operation.
Episode 48
Zara visits Jade in hospital after the successful birth of her baby, Shontavia, and is delighted to find that Jade is successfully breast-feeding her. Josh comes to the surgery and is warned by Jimmi that he will make him pay if he hurts Mrs Tembe whilst Heston fears he may be suffering from early onset dementia and asks Niamh's help in going through a role play with him.
Episode 49
Would-be author Sophie has two idols - Daniel, on whom she has modelled her romantic leading man and Emily Bronte, with whom she has imaginary conversations, though neither have stopped her manuscript from being rejected. Then she gets a call from publisher Charles, who asks her to dinner . He is not what he claims but at least provides her with a happy ending. Zara visits Jade and is pleased with her progress whilst Niamh unsuccessfully tries to show Al her feelings for him.
Episode 50
Noel Rooney tells Jimmi that he fears his aunt, dementia sufferer Pauline Dempster, is getting worse and that her gardener, ex-offender Tom Cullum is stealing her medication. In the event it is Tom who, out of genuine concern, is misguidedly giving Pauline a double dose whilst the real miscreant is Noel, who has stolen Pauline's winning lottery ticket. Niamh bakes cakes for Al with a recipe taken from his social network account but, having been accused of stalking himself, he warns her that some could see her actions as an invasion of privacy whilst Josh is delighted when Mrs Tembe gets him a job interview, less so when she starts asking about his mother.
Episode 51
Howard is shocked by the extreme reaction from medical rep Andy Couldry when he declines to buy an ultrasound machine from him and, after speaking to Andy's wife, realizes that he lives in a fantasy world and needs psychiatric treatment. Howard brings in Daniel to advise but Andy refuses to accept that he has a problem. Feeling hurt by Al Niamh is happy to join Emma and Karen on a girls' night out to celebrate Karen returning to live with Rob whilst Al is surprised when Jimmi suggests that Niamh is fond of him and Josh's job interview is successful.
Episode 52
Rob is called to a road accident and discovers that the learner driver, Hollie Marlow, is involved in a scam organized by her grandma in which she takes other people's tests for them for money and that the driving examiner is also on the payroll. Karen's desire to cook Rob a romantic meal inspires Daniel to suggest to Zara that they take up a new interest together, such as ballroom dancing, but inevitably she is cynical about it.
Episode 53
When elderly charity collector Elsie Potter collapses her grandson Ben calls in Zara and innocently gives her one of Elsie's home-made buns, unaware that they are hash cakes Elsie has made to help her arthritis. As a result Daniel needs to rescue a stoned Zara. Heston consults clairvoyant Celeste Baptiste over noises he hears in his house and though she believes there is nothing wrong the noise start again after she has left. Meanwhile Mandy and Niamh suspect that Mrs Tembe and Josh are more than friends.
Episode 54
Cancer patient Pete Stanfield tells Al that he no longer needs to see him as he has been cured thanks to the homeopathic remedies of Dr David Clarkwell but Al believes Clarkwell is a charlatan and confronts him. Clarkwell threatens police action but Al is exonerated when Pete has a fatal relapse and his medication is exposed as mere aspirin. Emma breaks her ankle and locum doctor, recently divorced Toni McPherson, stands in for her.
Episode 55
Daniel is horrified to find that little Kelly Towell has scurvy, caused by malnutrition after her single mother Susan's benefits have been cut. Daniel offers to help but Susan is wary and rejects him. At home with a cold Heston is unsettled by the noises in the house whilst Niamh confides her feelings for Al in Mandy and is angry when Mandy tells Emma.
Episode 56
Hasan Haruna is perturbed by the eating habits of his diabetic mother Khadija and anorexic sister Yesemi and takes them to the surgery. Both women claim that they have to fast for Ramadan or else bad things will befall them but Niamh and Al tell them that they must eat or else they will become ill. Niamh later finds out more about Ramadan and tries to effect a compromise but is not wholly successful. Karen meanwhile discovers that she needs to wear glasses.
Episode 57
Intrigued as to the fate of his great grandfather Hugh, who disappeared in World War 1, Howard enlists the services of archaeologist Matt Jukes. They find a diary belonging to lieutenant Joshua Wise, who, with his NCO Zulman Choudry, were the last people to see Hugh but the diary is missing pages which could yield vital information. Joined by Zulman's great grand daughter Zainab who is equally anxious to learn what happened to her ancestor they eventually discover the bodies of two of the men and learn what happened to the survivor.
Episode 58
Muslim teenager Aasim Masood tells his devout mother that he has been fasting and engaging in charity work during Ramadan whereas he has been partying and taking recreational drugs with friends. Kevin persuades him to tell her the truth though she has had her suspicions all along. Josh meanwhile is feeling tempted to reoffend and is about to speak to Viv when Mra Tembe arrives, taking a rather more overwhelming line in advice.
Episode 59
Karen sees Lois Wren, a young girl who lives in a fantasy world, climbing out of a window and wrongly assumes that she is being ill-treated by her foster mother Nettie. However this is not the case and Karen ends up helping the pair come to an understanding as well as furthering Nettie's romance with bookseller Hywell. Al is not happy when Emma tries to get him to talk about Niamh whilst Toni agrees to partner Daniel at ballroom dancing classes. Zara is less than impressed.
Episode 60
Hoarder Jane Richards accidentally tips her late husband's ashes over herself and, although agoraphobic, is nowhere to be found when Heston makes his house call. After her daughter has located her Heston proves to her that her skin rash is caused by the unhygienic contents of her house but when her son Martin tries to clear out the junk she locks herself in and Heston needs his best powers of persuasion to help. Josh befriends Claire, a single parent who works in the café with him, and is annoyed when Mrs Tembe tells him he is not yet ready for a relationship.
Episode 61
Zara is giving a talk at a girls' school when pupil Jenna Cole is suddenly sick and vomits part of a tape-worm. As other students also start to fall ill Zara is appalled to be told that they are on a tape-worm slimming diet. Meanwhile Al tries to pluck up courage to ask Niamh out whilst Mrs Tembe confides her fears about Claire and Josh to Viv, unaware that Josh told Viv he was imprisoned for assault and not rape.
Episode 62
Rob arrests persistent thief and drunk Lizzie McWhinnie and asks Jimmi to see her when she claims to be asthmatic. She is intelligent and Jimmi is shocked that she is resigned to habitual spells in prison for the security it offers. He resolves to get into a hostel but she does not make it easy for him. Al is disappointed when Niamh tells him that she is happy to be just friends with him whilst Josh lies about his crime when Claire suggests they go on a date.
Episode 63
Kevin's patient Marcus Kennedy, depressive after his wife's death, surprises him by announcing that he has sold all his possessions, his house and his job to Ray Withers and plans to move to Italy to make a fresh start with new girl-friend Amy. At his leaving party Marcus suddenly states that he has changed his mind as he would only be running away from the past but Kevin dissuades him. Daniel is less than elegant at his first dance class with a condescending teacher whilst Heston seeks Howard's advice on home security but over-reacts when energy salesman Alex Bolton calls unannounced, accusing him of being the intruder.
Episode 64
Heston engages private detective, ex-policeman Phil Hardwick, to follow Alex Bolton to prove that he is the intruder but when Alex is shown to be innocent and Phil still wants paying Heston throws a vase at him and Rob has to persuade Hardwick to drop assault charges. Heston is still convinced that there is a presence in his house which moves objects around so Rob suggests he install CCTV. Mrs Tembe encourages Josh to date Claire in the mistaken belief that he has told her the truth about his conviction.
Episode 65
In a shop Karen meets Susie Vine, formerly a successful television magician whose career ended abruptly following an accident on a live broadcast after she discovered the infidelity of her husband and stage partner Jeremy. Susie is now broke and cynical but Karen persuades her to attend a show being given by Jeremy where the pair end up working their old magic together. Meanwhile Mrs Tembe urges Claire to accept Josh's offer of a date and Al demonstrates to Heston CCTV, which catches Matthew and Toni dancing together. Zara is not amused. The CCTV is installed but somebody would seem to be using it to observe Heston.
Episode 66
Al's patient Eddie Havelock, who has a fear of leaving his house, asks Al to visit Hazel, a fellow agoraphobic with whom he chats on the Internet after she fails to answer his calls. Al discovers that Hazel's real phobia concerns buttons and when Eddie sets out to call on her Al helps them cope with the truth. Toni and Daniel continue to improve their tango though instructor Andy demands more passion whilst Heston is convinced that somebody has sabotaged his CCTV system.
Episode 67
Toni tends to the latest victim to have been beaten up and robbed by local thug Kyle Felton after his accomplice Callum Bennett - a youngster heavily in debt to a loan shark - has passed on PIN number details to Felton. Howard and feisty partner Erica Jameson combine to catch the pair. Claire and Josh have their date but it ends disastrously when he confesses his real crime and later angrily rounds on Mrs Tembe, reviling her for putting temptation in his way.
Episode 68
Mandy's car is in a prang with would-be rocker Tommy Paxman. When Tommy's girlfriend Niki leaves him because she claims he has more interest in rock music than in her Mandy reluctantly agrees to help him out at an air guitar contest - where she does him proud. Jimmi comforts Mrs Tembe after both Viv and Claire have have told that she was wrong to push Josh into the date without checking that Claire knew the truth about him whilst Kevin mends Heston's CCTV.
Episode 69
Kevin brags that he pulled two women in a club the night before but is stunned when both arrive at the surgery for a date - and turn out to be a mother and daughter who are always competing with each other. Ultimately they realize that they need each other more than they want Kevin and they both dump him. Zara assures Daniel that she is happy for him to continue partnering Toni and for them to go on a conference together which involves an overnight stay.
Episode 70
Jimmi treats elderly, befuddled Clive Atmore, arrested for drunk driving, and suspects that the scratches on his neck are the result of domestic abuse. However the real reason is far more sinister. Niamh attends a drama therapy class where fellow attendee seems obsessed with the group leader, ex-actor Doug - whom she believes to be the father who abandoned her. Niamh herself is pleased to go on a date with psychologist Oliver Clarke.
Episode 71
Josh leaves Letherbridge for a rehabilitation hostel. He thanks Mrs Tembe for her support but again stresses that she should not intrude in people's lives. Niamh has an enjoyable date with Oliver whilst Toni and Daniel attend their course on Alzheimer's. After a few drinks Toni gets flirtatious but Daniel resists.
Episode 72
Al is perturbed when normally sensible patients suffering from long term illnesses claim to have been cured by teen-aged faith healer Toby Guilmore. When Al investigates he discovers that the boy is doing more harm than good as he has measles which he is spreading to others. Daniel assures Toni that she should not worry about making a pass at him but on return to the surgery Zara seems suspicious whilst Kevin is concerned that Heston is being rather too cheerful, given recent events.
Episode 73
Special constable Howard looks for elderly Grace's missing cat, only to find she was never really missing but he has an eager helper in Archie, a resourceful little local boy with tons of ambitions. Emma tries to help Niamh choose between Al and Oliver whilst Heston confesses to Kevin that he has been subconsciously moving the furniture in his house and now fears he may have a brain tumour.
Episode 74
Jimmi's god-daughter Isla arrives from Wales to start at the local university. She was born with a hole in the heart and Jimmi books her in to see a specialist but when he calls at her house she has disappeared. Meanwhile Rob is interviewing Frances Hatchley, ex-girlfriend and former accomplice of rapist Darren Cole, who has run off whilst on parole. Rob finds that Frances has been in contact with Isla through a website for fans of the Moongirl Chronicles books and fears she may have sent her to Cole whilst Barry finds an admirer in history fan Matilda, who invites him to a battle re-enactment.
Episode 75
Rob learns that Georgiana, Isla's flatmate, also uses the Moongirl site, which is how they met. She was one of several girls groomed for sex by Frances and Cole, whose girlfriend she has become and deliberately targeted Isla through the site. She and her friend Sam have drugged Isla and delivered her to Cole though Jimmi and Rob manage to rescue her. Barry meanwhile enjoys his day with Matilda pretending to be a medieval knight.
Episode 76
Mandy visits middle-aged Theresa and Cal Craven, who are bringing up their granddaughter Courtney, after their drug addict daughter Ruth has disappeared, leaving her baby with them. Cal believes it is their duty to raise Courtney but Theresa feels that they are too old and will be unable to cope, proposing adoption. Mandy steps in with a suggestion for respite. Heston goes to hospital for tests but is irritated by what he sees as incompetence whilst Al is not happy to discover Niamh's list comparing him with Oliver.
Episode 77
Daniel sees bride-to-be Eleanor Campbell, who is trying in vain to phone her groom, Phil Shearer. In fact Phil's mentally ill mother Tricia has drugged him and locked him in his room as she is a depressive who wants him to stay and look after her. The couple eventually tie the knot but Tricia needs admission to a psychiatric ward. Barry goes on his date with Matilda but she is only interested in his medieval persona, not him, whilst Jimmi is suspicious when he sees Zara in earnest conversation with a young man in a bar.
Episode 78
Mrs Tembe's bigoted friend unhappily married Rita Russell believes her gruff husband Gary is smuggling illegal immigrants when she sees a young black man get out of Gary's lorry. In fact he is a platonic friend who accompanies Gary on his travels. He is hereditarily HIV + and Mrs Tembe is shocked by Rita's reaction, which prompts Gary to file for divorce. Heston learns that he does not have a brain tumour but the specialist wants more tests - for dementia - whilst Jimmi believes Toni's interest in Daniel seems to be more than dance-orientated.
Episode 79
Karen befriends Al's patient Farah Raja, whose family is moving to Pakistan but who wants to design her own clothes range and has provided costumes for the dance contest. When Farah's mother arrives to oppose her daughter's plan Karen shows her Farah's designs and helps the mother to change her mind. Most of the staff comes to support Toni and Daniel though Zara is strangely absent. However she and the young man with whom Jimmi saw her are surprise entrants and win the contest. Daniel is impressed, Toni rather less so.
Episode 80
Ex-convict Frank Pickard arrives at the surgery to change the locks and immediately falls foul of Rob for parking in the disabled bay. When he loses his mortgage papers Mrs Tembe helps him look for them and discovers not only that he is illiterate but that his girlfriend is taking advantage of this fact to swindler him. Meanwhile Heston attends a memory clinic for further tests and Jimmi consoles Toni, who is baffled by the actions of Zara and Daniel.
Episode 81
Pregnant Jane Buckland tells Toni that she fears she is losing her memory as she is unable to recall small incidents with husband Nigel. In fact Nigel is manipulating this as he is having an affair with boss Matt and wants an excuse to leave his wife. When the truth comes out however both Jane and Matt are disgusted and reject him. Heston confides in Kevin his fear that he is suffering from dementia.
Episode 82
Al and Niamh both attend a sci-fi comic convention hosted by writer Blake Calverly. Alyson, a young girl, denounces Blake as a monster and the doctors fear that she is out to kill him but she turns out to be his estranged daughter, accusing him of causing her mother's death. Then Sioned, another attendee has a choking fit and Al saves her life. An impressed Niamh asks him out on a date.
Episode 83
Whilst Niamh prepares to split with Oliver Kevin refers Heston to him after Heston's tests have ruled out dementia. Daniel's patient David Chapel refuses to believe that his son Richard was guilty of murdering Lisa Durrant, even though he has been sentenced - which puts Richard at odds with Lisa's mother Pam. After Daniel has prevented him from killing himself David prepares to accept the truth. Toni meanwhile announces that she is leaving the surgery to train as a psychotherapist.
Episode 84
Rob is called to the home of wheelchair-bound Caroline Ramsey to find Julie Daniels threatening to throw acid at her. Julie blames Caroline, a former magistrate, for releasing on bail Julie's daughter Alison's violent boyfriend who then put Alison in a coma. Drawing on his own experience with Karen Rob gives Julie some cause for optimism and persuades her that her place is with Alison and not behind bars. Al 's date with Niamh at a restaurant is a disaster. After falsely assuming her father was a terrorist he spills tomato sauce on her and then finds he left his wallet at home so that she ends up footing the bill.
Episode 85
Ellen Okotume has come from Nigeria to stay with son Chukka, his wife Joy and their baby Lawrence but clashes with Joy over the child's upbringing. At Ellen's instigation Lawrence is circumcised but when the child starts bleeding Joy, backed by Kevin, makes Chukka see that mother does not always know best. Niamh prepares to split with Oliver whilst Heston visits as his patient but refutes the diagnosis of depression.
Episode 86
Schizophrenic self-harmer Adam Dobson returns to his house after two years to find his wife Amy living with, and pregnant by, his brother Greg. Heston believes Adam is suffering from psychosis and should be sectioned for his own good, leaving Amy with a hard decision to make. Kevin gets a date with art student Poppy by pretending to be a recording A & R man whilst Al and Oliver almost come to blows over the pub quiz and Niamh, who ends up rejecting both of them.
Episode 87
Mandy treats widower Luke Jarvis after a fall. Luke feels unable to look after his schoolgirl daughter Stephanie but having confessed to Daniel that it is because she reminds her of his dead wife he feels ready to be a parent. Niamh visits Oliver to apologize but still splits with both him and Al whilst Heston continues with his treatment with Oliver and Kevin continues his deception with Poppy.
Episode 88
Daniel is called to hospital to see his old friend Archie Lagos, a former gambling addict, who, although homeless, has nearly two hundred thousand pounds strapped to his body. It is the money left by his father but he feels he should punish himself for being a disappointment to him. However when Daniel suggests Archie breaks with the past he takes drastic action. Kevin has to hide when Poppy visits the surgery whilst Al, inspired by an elderly patient who has recently discovered love, makes his true feelings known to Niamh.
Episode 89
Elderly Kenneth Jewell is discharged from hospital after a hip operation but his daughter Nessa feels that he is not fully well and seeks to register him at the Letherbridge surgery so that he can be in the catchment area for a rehab ward. When Kenneth has a fall and is readmitted to hospital Howard bends the rules to help a fellow old soldier. Meanwhile Oliver gets Heston to discuss his marriage break-up and his inability to form a proper emotional relationship as a result.
Episode 90
Rob is on patrol with PC Stu Woods, who arrests Stuart James for the possession of cocaine. However James explains to Rob that Woods has fitted him up as he has learned that James is having an affair with his wife. Rob steps in to see fair play and stop his colleague from ruining his career. Mandy and her friend Helen go to a gay club where Mandy meets Catriona but they are attacked by a gang of homophobic girls whilst Niamh takes Al to a bingo session. He is unimpressed - until he wins a keg of ale, leading to their first kiss.
Episode 91
Visiting a bereavement care centre Jimmi finds deputy Jonas at odds with the manager Carla, who he feels is not doing her job properly and should be reported. However he has failed to spot that she is under pressure because her own father is dying. Kevin visits a girls' school to give a talk on sex education, unaware that one of the schoolgirls is Poppy, who now realizes that he is not a music mogul. Mandy meanwhile continues to worry about Catriona, whom she did not see after the assault.
Episode 92
After a bizarre dream Karen goes to work and sees neighbour Carol, who has terminal cancer. Karen confesses to Al that she is curious as to what she was like before her accident and has difficulty in reconciling the 'two Mrs Hollins' so he gets her to express her feelings to a video camera, confronting an image of her old self. Ultimately it is the recognition of an old pop song and a chat with Carol which brings about the happiest resolution.
Episode 93
Zara is approached by desperate Carrie Simms, who claims that her daughter Hannah believes herself to be a vampire as she is part of a group who drink each others' blood. However the revelation of a family tragedy leads Zara to understand Hannah's motives. Meanwhile Heston finds it helpful to talk to Oliver about his past mistakes and Jimmi regrets asking an over-enthusiastic Mrs Tembe to help him to choose a new car.
Episode 94
Kevin plays host to Poppy, unaware that she is a school-girl and that she knows he is a doctor but an irate phone call from her mother leads to her leaving early. Mandy and Jimmi reluctantly agree to spend the evening with Heston out of sympathy though they fail to appreciate his musical tastes whereas Al's sophisticated evening with Niamh starts badly but ends on a romantic note.
Episode 95
Having split with girl-friend Kim Adamson Charlie Proudley ends up in bed with her glamorous mother Angela, a former magazine pin-up girl. When both women turn up at the surgery sparks fly but Karen makes Kim realize that Angela's work as a glamour model was to secure her daughter's future and that Charlie used them both. Mandy is unable to persuade a depressed Catriona to report her attackers to the police whilst Kevin, still unaware that Poppy knows the truth about him, invites her to Paris with him.
Episode 96
Following a heart operation upholsterer Ray Evendon is feeling unwell and stressed out at having to supervise reluctant apprentice Luke Schuster, son of Ray's boss Melanie. Daniel helps Ray to put his health before his allegiance to Melanie. Catriona takes Mandy's advice and goes to report her assault to the police but officer Mitchum is brusque and unsympathetic and she backs down whilst Kevin gets a shock when Poppy's mother brings her to the surgery and he discovers that she is only fifteen.
Episode 97
Grumpy old widower Walter Brannigan insists on waiting all morning at the surgery, antagonizing Mrs Tembe but Karen believes he is just a lonely old man and persuades her to invite him to a church social. After visiting Catriona, who is haunted by nightmares following her ordeal, Mandy bumps into Rachel Strickson, leader of the female thugs who attacked Catriona, but she shows no remorse whilst Kevin makes it clear to Poppy that their relationship must end.
Episode 98
When Kevin's married friend Harvey Swann is blackmailed by a woman with whom he had a one-night stand he asks Kevin to deliver the hush money but he gives it to the wrong woman - or so he thinks until he realizes that there are two of them working a scam. Jimmi finds Mrs Tembe's automobile knowledge overwhelming when she helps him choose a new car resulting in no sale whilst Heston finds himself unable to help an increasingly desperate and hysterical Catriona.
Episode 99
Zara literally bumps into her former nanny April Hannan, who now runs a successful patisserie with boyfriend Andy. April claims that she has used Zara as a role model in building up her success but Zara fears that she is working herself and Andy too hard and suggests they slow down. Meanwhile Jimmi is called to Catriona's house to find she has committed suicide. Mandy is devastated and Heston shocked to realize that he was not in full possession of her history of mental illness.
Episode 100
In the wake of Catriona's suicide questions are asked. Mandy believes Heston was too dismissive regarding Catriona's history of depression but Heston comes out into the open, declaring that far from being aloof, he has his own mental problems and then offers his resignation. Mitchum is questioned by inspector Harris, who suggests that his cavalier attitude towards Catriona was homophobic. He is suspended from duties.
Episode 101
Niamh's patient Sam is a young girl with special needs, living with her pregnant sister Chrissie and Chrissie's husband Paul, who is worn out by Sam's requirement. Niamh learns that Sam is keen to move into a residential home but Chrissie is obsessively protective of her and blocked the application. However when Chrissie goes into labour Sam proves she is fully able to cope, causing Chrissie to change her mind. Meanwhile Mandy befriends fellow nurse Ayesha and Heston tells Oliver he is considering giving up medicine to move to India.
Episode 102
Angina sufferer Eugene Montgomery is perturbed that his jobless son Lewis is hanging out with petty thief Darren and when he hears a man has been mugged and sees Lewis counting out money he fears the worst. In fact Lewis is innocent and Ayesha has to help get Eugene on side when his son announces that he is to train as a policeman. Mandy decides to leave and suggests Ayesha as her replacement and Niamh and Al return from their holiday and fall out over his reaction to Catriona's suicide.
Episode 103
Mandy visits Heston to say that she is leaving to work with victims of hate crimes and that she does not hold him responsible for Catriona's suicide whilst Howard's internal review also exonerates him. Al goes to a hotel to pitch his self-inflating tourniquet to possible investors, led by sarcastic Edwin Gleesdale. He befriends a down-trodden Columbian waitress, unaware that this will be instrumental in his successful sale.
Episode 104
Daniel encourages Heston to return to work though he still insists on working his notice whilst Ayesha is late for her interview having stopped to help a hopeless drug addict and, despite her abruptness, gets the job in the absence of any competition. However, at Mandy's leaving party, she shows that she can fit in with other staff.
Episode 105
Kay Kitson is mugged by violent Max Hartnell, who steals her keys and enters her house where he encounters her blind mother Mary. Jimmi tends to Kay, who explains that she gave up her job to care for Mary who now seems jealous of her boyfriend. However Mary's ability to stand up to Hartnell and even get him to make her a cup of tea makes Kay realize she is not that helpless. Howard meanwhile moves in with Heston while his house is treated for asbestos.
Episode 106
On her last day at the surgery Mandy sees the normally grumpy ex-Army man Mortis Bly, who is in an unusually good mood but she has to calm him down when he appears to be drunk in a restaurant. Ultimately she realizes that he has been overdoing a mixture of substances to help him get over the death of his wife. Karen and Rob argue on their joint day off when she tries to renovate some old furniture but they make it up whilst Mandy's day ends with a surprise party.
Episode 107
Emma sees to teen-aged Carl Gawson, who is sleeping rough. He left home after a row with his father Mark, who blames the boy for his sister's death from a drug over-dose. Emma persuades Mark and his second wife to take Carl home, where the truth behind the girl's death is revealed. Meanwhile Al pays for Niamh to go on a computer course which she does not enjoy and Howard moves in with Heston.
Episode 108
On the third anniversary of husband Richard's death buttoned-up widow Faye Brannon is shocked to find Nina Mannion has set up a garish headstone next to Richard's grave celebrating her father's life as an Elvis Presley impersonator. Faye asks church official and friend Colin to remove it but after a conversation with Daniel and a letter from beyond the grave Faye appreciates that perhaps Colin might be more than a friend and that it is time to move on with her life. Meanwhile Howard is shocked when a sleep-walking Heston attempts to get into bed with him and Kevin is equally shocked when the obsessive Poppy, now turned sixteen, suggests that they carry on seeing each other.
Episode 109
Talented teen-aged classical pianist Rachel Fraser faints after walking out of an audition and is discovered by Zara. Rachel has just given birth but has kept her pregnancy a secret from her father David, who is obsessed with her having a musical career like her mother. Zara makes him realize there may be more important things in his daughter's life. Heston explains his sleep-walking to Howard as a defence mechanism from a previous, abusive relationship which in turns causes Howard to admit to his recent bulimia and the two get drunk together. Meanwhile Hazel, Poppy's mother, discovers that her daughter has been seeing Kevin.
Episode 110
At a demonstration against fracking a policewoman is injured and campaigner Maya Geraghty admits she hit her but Rob is not convinced and believes she is covering for somebody. He discovers the real culprit is undercover officer Andy Bickford who has fallen in love with Maya. Rob believes Maya should learn the truth. Partly overheard by Zara Hazel Conroy storms into the surgery, confronting Kevin and threatening to report him.
Episode 111
Al sees Minjun Choi, a Korean student who has arrived in Letherbridge to find that the accommodation he paid for in advance is non-existent and he has been conned. Fortunately his skill as an inventor manages to secure Minjun a home from impressed fellow students. Hazel is sympathetic to Kevin but believes that, to escape Poppy's obsession with him, he should leave Letherbridge and Zara, who is less forgiving, agrees. Heston tells Howard he intends to retire to Italy.
Episode 112
Media students Hannah and Jess make a film about Karen's memory loss for their project but Jess distorts it to make it seem more sensational. Karen is outraged but Hannah is more fair-minded and when she comes to make reparation with Karen the two women discover that they have much in common. Zara puts pressure on Kevin to resign, to save the surgery's good name and he gives his notice to Howard but Daniel is suspicious and believes Zara knows more than she lets on.
Episode 113
Ayesha helps her friend Beckie explain her embarrassing incontinence problem to her boyfriend but is annoyed to find her drunken mother Brenda has not taken her half-sister and niece to the day nursery. In the evening Brenda is about to go out again but Ayesha stops her and heads for the pub, where she has sex in a toilet with a pick-up. Daniel is still trying to work out why Kevin has resigned but gets no clues from Zara or Kevin himself.
Episode 114
Visiting her friend Mrs Stimpson Mrs Tembe discovers that her unscrupulous landlord McGregor is trying to evict her. Helped by Howard and Daniel she launches a press interview to shame McGregor into letting the old lady stay. Niamh however is evicted by McGregor and moves in with Emma whilst an unhappy Kevin desperately looks for a new job.
Episode 115
Jean Watkinson complains to Niamh that her terminally ill sister Sarah does not appreciate the devotion Jean has shown her. However when Niamh speaks to Sarah she tells her that feels smothered by Jean's attention, which she believes is more for Jean's benefit than hers. Kevin attends a patient's funeral and, through undertaker Marvin Harris, is put in touch with a possible job offer.
Episode 116
Jimmi visits elderly Mrs Beckford, who has missed several hospital appointments, and is horrified to find that she has died and her lonely son Tommy, unhinged by the death, is trying to bring her back to life again. Jimmi tries to reassure him that he must let go. Kevin makes his appointment for interview with Dr Houghton whilst Heston is puzzled by inconsistencies in several death certificates and Emma is disappointed that on her first night as her lodger Niamh prefers to stay with Al.
Episode 117
Student Teresa Fitzgerald comes to the surgery with what appear to be stigmata on her hands. Daniel's diagnosis is that because of stress she has literally been sweating blood but she also sees it as a sign to prevent her new friend Ros, who is pregnant but single, from having an abortion. Kevin gets a job with the smooth Dr Houghton whilst Heston investigates questionable death certificates and finds that all the deceased had Marvin Harris as their undertaker. Niamh patches things up with Emma but Mrs Tembe and Ayesha continue to fall out with each other.
Episode 118
Al is called out to see young Martin Dobbs who, on the morning of his wedding, has locked himself in his parents' bathroom and refuses to come out. Al sorts out the lad's medical problem but, on learning that Martin feels pushed into marriage by his dominant mother, advises him to do the right thing - which, aided by some Divine intervention, he does. Heston and Kevin gather evidence to prove Marvin Harris's dishonesty and Howard suggests that, rather than continually sniping at her, Mrs Tembe accompanies Ayesha on her rounds to show how hard she works.
Episode 119
Having found a femur at the funeral home Heston suspects a traffic in bones and discovers that the questionable death certificates were all signed by one Dr Cole. The doctor does not exist but he supposedly works with Dr Houghton and Kevin now believes Houghton only wants to employ him as he sees him as corruptible. Meanwhile Mrs Tembe accompanies Ayesha on her rounds though it does not lead to reconciliation between them.
Episode 120
After Dora Harrington discovers her alcoholic son Danny dead in bed she contacts Stuart Houghton, who advises her to see Marvin with a view to cremating the body. On his first day in his new job Kevin shadows Stuart, convincing him that he is prepared to go along with the scams Stuart and Marvin are operating with the result that Stuart tells him everything. At the Mill Surgery Ayesha continues to clash with Mrs Tembe, leading to a confrontation with Howard. However at least Howard and Ayesha manage to reach a compromise based on mutual understanding.
Episode 121
Kevin reports his findings to Heston but is still wary of risking his job by going public about the traffic in bones. Houghton and Harris suspect that he is in the know and plan to compromise him but after speaking to his sister Nadia he goes to the police and DCI Driver arrests the guilty couple. Back at the surgery Al and Daniel go head to head at making the best Hallowe'en pumpkin heads.
Episode 122
Heston and Kevin are considered to be heroes after exposing the traffic in bones and reporters besiege the surgery. Kevin however is worried as he signed a fake death certificate to gain Stuart Houghton's confidence and he is accused by bereaved husband Craig Dinsdale of being guilty though he is cleared by DCI Driver. Zara has to placate Hazel Conroy whilst Mrs Tembe hopes she can dissuade Heston from retiring by getting to see depressed orphan Paula Abbott but the consultation goes badly, reinforcing Heston's desire to quit medicine.
Episode 123
Elderly siblings Emily and Jacob Ware are being persecuted by ruthless property developer Redfern, who wants to buy their house and Niamh gets involved when the stress affects Emily's health. She uncovers a plot which not only exposes Redfern but also drives a wedge between the brother and sister. Mrs Tembe organizes a Go-Karting afternoon to celebrate Kevin's send-off and surprises Ayesha when she beats her in a grudge match - after which Kevin's colleagues, particularly Heston, wish him all the best.
Episode 124
Al goes to meet a friend at a country pub but when the friend cancels decides to stay over on his own. Exploring a ruined church he picks up an ancient whistle purportedly belonging to the Knights Templar and takes it back to his room. When he reads the inscription on, and blows, it bizarre things happen, shaking his disbelief in the spirit world.
Episode 125
Karen's friend Rose Day and her son Peter do not get on, especially as Peter idolized his dead father and feels Rose does not respect his memory. Karen however cones to learn a more deep-seated reason for their mutual animosity. With Heston leaving and taking his investment with him, the other partners are hard pressed to find a replacement. Heston himself, working late and alone, is confronted by an intruder.
Episode 126
Heston is shocked to find himself facing Curtis Brown, the robber who was sent to prison two years earlier on Heston's evidence. Curtis is surprisingly helpful when Heston has a panic attack but the doctor still finds the intruder's attitude threatening and is surprised when Curtis asks him for a reference as he is going for a porter's job. Seeing that Heston is taken aback Curtis gives him time to think it over and suggests they meet next day. Daniel persuades Emma to consider becoming a partner though Al is angry that he was not considered so Niamh helps him prepare a case.
Episode 127
Heavily pregnant Antonia asks Ayesha to induce her pregnancy, claiming that she does not want her over-attentive boyfriend Gustav around at the birth. However when the baby arrives early and the reason for Antonia's concern becomes obvious Gustav proves his worth. Howard finds himself with the surfeit of prospective partners as Emma, Al and Jimmi all express an interest whilst Heston meets with Curtis. Initially unwilling to help he eventually agrees to see his bipolar girlfriend.
Episode 128
Heston visits Curtis and his pregnant, bipolar girlfriend Laverne, who is initially hysterical and shuts herself in the bedroom. However Heston calms her down and discovers that she has stopped taking her medication as she fears it will harm the unborn child. By revealing his own battle with mental health Heston finally persuades her to accept help whilst back at the surgery Karen annoys Howard when he finds that she has been giving the contents of his questionnaire to the candidates, requiring him to start again.
Episode 129
Ayesha plans to go out but given her mother Brenda's woeful track record looking after Sierra she decides against it. The day is not perfect but Brenda at least shows herself to be more responsible than Ayesha had expected. At the surgery the interviews go ahead for the new partner and Heston, at his send-off, surprises everybody by announcing that, although he is withdrawing from the partnership, he has decided to stay on as a doctor. Mrs Tembe is especially delighted.
Episode 130
Single parent Steve Callan is repeatedly confronted by Charlotte Simpson, whose son he killed eighteen years earlier whilst driving under the influence of alcohol but when Charlotte abducts Steve's daughter Lily to tell her the truth Daniel realizes that both parties need help. Howard gives the partnership to Jimmi, creating new posts for Al and Emma but both are unhappy with the result with Emma contemplating legal action.
Episode 131
Mrs Tembe finds a love letter in a book donated to the surgery by recently widowed Helen Childs and persuades Zara to take it to her. It is from Herschel, the man she wanted to marry forty years ago, though the letter was intercepted and hidden by her bullying husband-to-be so that she believed Herschel had abandoned her. Zara reunites the couple. Meanwhile Brenda gets drunk whilst minding Sierra, leading to the child having an accident.
Episode 132
Jimmi meets old university friend Fenton and is surprised that the former hell-raiser now leads a very austere life, especially the fact that he goes everywhere barefoot. It turns out that he drove his wife away after having an affair and this is his way of punishing himself. With Sierra in hospital Brenda is quizzed by social worker Andy whilst Emma blames Zara for blocking her partnership bid and is supported by Niamh.
Episode 133
Mrs Tembe accompanies Jan Webster to meet Sheila, the mother who abandoned her at birth, but finds that Sheila is not keen to make a relationship, claiming that her husband must not find out. However Mrs Tembe knows that she is lying and that there is a deception, involving Jan's husband. Ayesha fails to cover up Brenda's drinking and has to agree to a case conference for Sierra whilst Zara tries to appease Emma.
Episode 134
Neurotic student Sam is convinced that he has a brain tumour, despite Zara providing evidence to the contrary. Then she discovers that it is his twin sister who has the tumour and is in a hospice, Sam's sympathy pains stemming from his reluctance to see her. At the case conference Ayesha's aggressive attitude does not help but Brenda agrees to take treatment for her drinking whilst Al and Jimmi's efforts to make home brew ends in a disaster.
Episode 135
Niamh is aware that a mysterious man is following her and Al is concerned for her. However he turns out to be a man who recalls an act of kindness from her years earlier and who wants to thank her. Ayesha's family problems cause chaos when her equally mouthy sister Debs arrives at the surgery though Jimmi defuses the situation.
Episode 136
Mrs Tembe is shocked when her glamorous neighbour, Sasha Arnold, a recovered cancer sufferer, announces that she is off to meet a lover and urges Sasha's husband Roy to fight for her, which he does - just as Sasha knew he would. Ayesha accompanies Brenda to see alcohol counsellor Ian whilst Franc, the locum Daniel has brought in whilst he is in Australia, charms the ladies. Howard, however, hearing that Franc once worked with Gary Lucas, believes he is a spy for the opposition.
Episode 137
Student Todd Magellan is obsessed with solving an Internet encryption code, to the detriment of his health, but when he sees that he is in completion with Al, he sends in a 'Trojan horse' that messes up the surgery's computers. Al visits and finds that the boy is the victim of a sinister university selection progress. Meanwhile Howard makes a fool of himself by accusing Franc of being a spy for Gary Lucas and Brenda arrives at the surgery drunk.
Episode 138
Heston is called out to sign the death warrant for elderly Lionel Hargreave, only to find that he is still alive - to the annoyance of his greedy trophy wife Tiffany who wants to marry her chauffeur lover Duane. Lionel's equally greedy daughter Martha arrives and triumphantly tells Tiffany that the marriage is illegal as it was conducted by a sham minister but whilst the women argue Lionel turns the tables on all of them. Meanwhile Jimmi provides Ayesha with a shoulder to lean on and Al is puzzled when Niamh asks Franc to teach her to speak French.
Episode 139
Karen has a run-in with rude security guard Duncan Metcalf and gets the last laugh when he is denied a sick note. However when she is in his store Metcalf attempts to get revenge by planting her and accusing her of shoplifting though fortunately she is able to prove that he is lying when arrested by a sour-faced policewoman. Mrs Tembe needs time off to return to Botswana where her brother has had a heart attack and the doctors are hoping that Valerie will not be her temporary replacement whilst the Grangers finally make it for their holiday in Australia after Zara fears she has lost the passports.
Episode 140
Jimmi is called in after an altercation between Jack Foster and Gareth Leonard, the latter having been sectioned in the past for stalking Jack's mother Kate. Gareth claims that he is dying and wants to apologize but Jimmi has to convince Kate that he is telling the truth. A muted Valerie returns to the surgery to stand in for Mrs Tembe, and charms Niamh - until she makes a tactless remark about Al - whilst Brenda's alcoholism continues to cause problems for Ayesha.
Episode 141
Franc sees footballer Jonas Lusala, who is suffering from tendinitis and has not lived up to the promise he showed when first scouted in Africa. Club boss Brett Harrer tries to bribe Franc to say that Jonas deliberately kept his injuries quiet wen signed so that the club can claim on the insurance. Franc refuses but then discovers a different deception. Meanwhile Barry comes to the rescue of Al and his home brew.
Episode 142
Emma gets a visit from the police and is told that Jeanie Agabi, whom she saw once some while ago, prescribing her anti-depressants, has been found dead in her flat, the body lying undisturbed for two years before discovery. Feeling guilty Emma questions Clive Keep, a neighbour and the last person to see Jeanie alive. Consequently she discovers how Jeanie died as well as learning the reason for Clive's secrecy.
Episode 143
When Howard's god daughter Jackie is hit by water bombs which also soak him she explains that she is in an 'Assassins Guild' game and is being targeted by a vengeful ex-boyfriend Keegan. Howard uses his military training to show Jackie how to turn the tables on her opponents and win back Keegan . Meanwhile a Christmas shopping expedition for the Hollins leads to Rob proposing to Karen whilst Brenda's drinking gets even worse, requiring an ambulance
Episode 144
Valerie is delighted when gents' barber Faisal Hussain gives her a free haircut and takes Karen along to the salon. However they learn that, much as Faisal prefers to style ladies' hair, his wife Tarzeem is jealous when he is in female company and insists he work only with male customers. Valerie gives him the confidence to stand up to her and do what he wants. Social Services agree that Ayesha should be Sierra's guardian and find them temporary accommodation whilst Karen asks Rob to organize their wedding, much to his amazement.
Episode 145
Heston's friend Jules, a jeweller, is having to give up his work through arthritis and begs Heston to make a ring for his grand-daughter's wedding under his instruction. The ring is completed but Heston learns that it is for a sad occasion, rather than a happy event. Ayesha meanwhile moves from the hostel into a flat and Howard tells Emma a film crew might be coming to the surgery.
Episode 146
Rob finds elderly Laura Woodeson wandering in the road and takes her to the police station but she cannot remember her address. Her memory is jogged by a painful visit to her old home, bombed in the war, but when Rob finally takes her to her own house there is a shocking discovery - which triggered her temporary amnesia. Howard is none too happy when documentary maker Nick Reynolds tells him he will be coming to film at the surgery next day whilst Brenda causes more trouble for Ayesha with a drunken, vitriolic visit to her work-place.
Episode 147
Niamh visits lonely trailer dweller Roy Webber, who has been beaten up by his ex-wife's brothers to warn him off contacting her. However he is so desperate for female company that he refuses to let Niamh go and she has to use psychology to escape. The documentary film turns out better than expected for Howard, despite staff apathy and the presence of an irate patient who turns out to be an actor hired by Nick Reynolds.
Episode 148
Al crosses swords with yoga teacher Celestia Heywood after her client Rainbow Jones falls ill. The two women are believers in homeopathic healing but Al proves that modern medicine is more effective when he diagnoses Rainbow's illness. Meanwhile Ayesha and Franc have a date, but when he offers her money for Sierra she gets the wrong idea whilst Heston assures Valerie that she can stay on when Mrs Tembe returns and Karen starts to regret asking Rob to arrange their wedding.
Episode 149
Franc is in his corner shop when an inept robber attempts a hold-up but is foiled by the cynical shop-keeper. Franc's act of kindness to the would-be criminal elicits unexpected responses from both the man himself and the shop owner. After a falling out with Mrs Tembe Al offers to play Santa Claus at her church Christmas party whilst Ayesha begins to realize that she too is drinking too much.
Episode 150
Al devises a game called Patient Bingo in which the doctors score points for ticking off their patients' different illnesses. Karen is appalled when Heston asks a severe diabetic to the surgery for the purposes of the game though it proves to save the man's life. Valerie falls out with Barry, who has allowed runaway Grace Mensah to squat upstairs from the surgery as she has told him her father is forcing her back to Ghana for an arranged marriage. Valerie rings the father but when he arrives Grace's lies are exposed.
Episode 151
With his greedy landlord increasing the rent Heston's friend David Berry steals much-needed cash from the hateful Miss Hickson, who owns the shoddy Christmas theme park where he works dressed as an elf. His pregnant wife Mel asks Heston to intervene and they go to the premises where, after David's co-worker Kieran has foiled Miss Hickson's plan to decamp with all the takings, Heston delivers Mel's Christmas baby.
Episode 152
When Ayesha finds her elderly patient Freda has fallen out of her wheelchair whilst Tasha, her carer, is out, she suspects neglect and possible abuse. However the real culprit is Freda's son Max, who has been neglecting his mother and making extra work that Tasha finds hard to fulfil. Meanwhile Emma is surprised when Franc buys her an expensive pair of shoes for Christmas and Karen disapproves when she finds out that Rob is planning an underwater wedding.
Episode 153
A nervous Al prepares to play Santa at Mrs Tembe's church Christmas party and, with Niamh's help, gets through the day - just about. Equally reluctant to attend is little Tom Culkin, dragged in by his father Simon, who is fleeing from the fact that his ex-wife wants custody of the boy. Tom is unsettled by the news and runs away but Mrs Tembe's friend Kim Berry gives him and Simon encouragement that they will still be able to see each other.
Episode 154
Returning from Australia alone Daniel is detained at the airport due to a visa anomaly. He meets Gabriel, a young Syrian war refugee to whom he offers help, and Richard, an abrasive Brit, whose recently acquired overseas bride turns out to be a drugs mule. Franc impresses his colleagues with his expensive Christmas presents and Al is especially jealous of the beautiful dress he gives Niamh. Determined to impress he buys her sexy lingerie from a shady man he meets in the pub. Rob meanwhile tells a relieved Karen that the wedding ceremony will not be underwater.
Episode 155
After being pulled in for driving too slowly Valerie attends a speed awareness course, befriending young classmate Ned Harrison. However she discovers that Ned is taking the course for his washed-up rock musician father Benny, who was caught drunk driving and is still prepared to get behind the wheel, causing Ned to take drastic action. With Zara still in Australia with her poorly son Daniel returns to work and is shocked to find that Franc has given a patient too much Botox and is not qualified to do so. Howard on the other hand is all smiles when he sees his colleagues' glowing opinions of him in the finished documentary.
Episode 156
Whilst Karen prepares for her wedding with Immy Niamh and Al throw their party where Al's home brew is a huge success. Barry imbibes rather a lot and declares his love for Valerie, though she is too drunk to notice. Al lashes out when he believes that Franc is getting too close to Niamh but Emma is only too happy to return his advances. Meanwhile Rob arrests Eric, who sold Al Niamh's lingerie.
Episode 157
Jimmi is called to the police station to attend to burglar Wasim Malik, knocked out by Libby James, who says he went for her boyfriend Casper. However Casper admits that he paid his friend Wasim to break in so that he could impress Libby by defending her against him. Meanwhile with most of her colleagues hung over from Al's party Karen's hen night gets off to a poor start but turns into a fun night when they combine to arrest the crook from whom Al bought the imitation designer undies for Niamh.
Episode 158
Whilst donating to a fraudulent street Santa Franc gets dipped by his accomplice, a hooded pickpocket, and soon afterwards the same thing happens to Emma. With the police unable to help the two doctors end up making a citizens' arrest of the unlikely duo. Meanwhile Mrs Tembe persuades cantankerous fellow hospital volunteer Eddie Copland to dress as Father Christmas for the children but suspects racism when the organizer opposes the idea as Eddie is black and comes up with an alternative Santa. Undaunted Mrs Tembe saves the day in a most unusual manner.
Episode 159
The big day arrives for the Hollins but is beset by calamity when Karen gets hit in the eye and needs to wear a glamorous eye patch and Rob does his back in. To make things worse the inexperienced registrar has to go home as she has a phobia about eye patches, Fortunately Mrs Tembe, as a lay preacher, steps in to unite the couple and the day ends well with fake snow and a Mariachi band. Niamh sees the elderly Nancy and Walter Milne, who are due to go on a world cruise but for them there is no happy ending, leaving Niamh in a state of shock.
Episode 160
Jimmi treats Damian McEwan, who has picked a fight with a stranger who, he says, is violent to his partner though he does not know him. Damian's girlfriend Alice tells Jimmi that he was very much affected by his mother's recent death and Jimmi learns that Damian believes his mother is sending messages giving him the gift of second sight. Al sees Nancy Milne and gets the impression that she feels Niamh might have done more to save her husband.
Episode 161
Franc's patient Ellen Singleton is depressed because Sean Darwin, the boyfriend she dumped, has posted topless pictures of her on the Internet. After Franc counsels her Ellen plans a revenge of her own, showing Sean up to his new girlfriend and starting a poster campaign. Meanwhile Heston comes up with a plan to recycle Christmas trees whilst Al tries to console Niamh over the death of Walter Milne.
Episode 162
Suffering from heart palpitations local councillor Alan Hargreaves goes to see Heston. He is under the double stress of caring for a sick mother and attempting to prevent a building development, in both cases feeling undermined by his sister Jackie though things come to a head twice over when Alan is rushed to hospital and there is partial reconciliation. Meanwhile Niamh, still feeling incompetent, tells Al she plans to resign.
Episode 163
Howard's schoolboy godson Charlie Clemence feels so alienated from his father Dave he asks for a DNA test to prove that he is not Dave's son. Nobody believes him until Dave's wife Jenny admits that it might be true following a drunken one night stand - then it is Charlie who tries to heal the rift in the marriage. Meanwhile Ayesha plays Cupid for Emma and Franc and Al dissuades Niamh from tendering immediate resignation until they have been on holiday.
Episode 164
As Naz Banga is rushed to hospital after being knocked unconscious Jimmi attends to his wife Priya's injuries. DC Indhu Choudry believes her to be a battered wife who attacked her husband but Priya claims that Naz is two-timing her with violent girlfriend Dawn Fraser, who was responsible for assaulting him. Jimmi and Indhu disagree over who is the actual victim until the truth emerges. Elsewhere Emma has a lovely night out with Franc, even though he gets her to dish the dirt on their colleagues.
Episode 165
Visiting her friend Michael Giddings Valerie is shocked when Paula, the mother he has told her was dead, turns up after many years and he totally blanks her. Michael explains that Paula abandoned her family for a career as a model but Paula, who has Alzheimer's, and wants to see her son before she loses her memory of him, explains that it was his late father who forbade a reunion and Valerie helps arrange a reconciliation. Meanwhile Mrs Tembe and Emma persuade Heston to stand as a local councillor.
Episode 166
Following a row over holidays with her domineering partner Russell Ursula Edgefield suffers a mild stroke at work but is taken to hospital by her friend Zara. They attempt to contact Russell but he has also got himself into a mess and needs to be hospitalized though it brings about a better understanding with the neighbour who helped him. Daniel holds an open day at his slimming clinic and accepts Franc's bet as to who can sign up the most new clients. Not only does he lose but he falls out with Zara who was unable to come and support him as she was helping Ursula instead.
Episode 167
Mrs Tembe meets two young girls, Grace and Tara, who invite her to the church of Purity, founded by Grace's grandparents, ex-addicts Philip and Nancy Burke. Mrs Tembe is shocked by its austerity, including the fact that the Burkes hold their daughter Linda responsible for her rape and that the girls are encouraged to fast when Grace seems to be ill. She brings Jimmi to see her but Grace rejects them.
Episode 168
Mrs Tembe tells the police that she is concerned about the anorexic Grace but she is she is warned to stay away from the Burkes. However when Tara dies Linda rings her and she alerts the emergency services. Nancy and Philip Burke are arrested and Grace rushed to hospital where she reconciles with her mother. Ayesha accuses Zara of patronizing her when she tries to help her with the increasingly difficult Sierra.
Episode 169
Bullying murder suspect Jared Hall is released from custody and makes straight for single mother Katia Palowsi, refusing to believe that she wants no more to do with him. Rob gets involved in helping Katia and her son Stee to move on when Stee reveals that he has incriminating evidence to send Hall back to prison. Meanwhile Heston has no luck in canvassing until Valerie steps in and Howard's decision not to take on any more patients gets him into trouble when Franc reports him for refusing to admit a gay couple who are both HIV+.
Episode 170
Heston is concerned for schoolboy David Williams who has virtually assumed the paternal role for his single father Cal, traumatized since being the victim of a terrorist attack. With a history of self-harming in the family Heston does his best to keep the pair together. Howard faces accusations of homophobia and is surprised when Franc comes to his aid though he could do without Niamh's announcement.
Episode 171
About to retire foster parent Celia Buxton is concerned that her charge Dusty Jones, a little girl with medical problems, should go to the right adoptive parents. Dusty hits it off with Careg, a gay single man but Celia is not sure that he is right for Dusty, pointing to possible obstacles. Careg's friend Valerie sets out to see how these can be removed. At the surgery the partners have to debate both its adverse publicity and the future of Niamh.
Episode 172
Rob gets involved when Cheryl and Hector, total strangers, learn that her mother and his father, who have died in a car crash, have been having an affair for twenty years. The discovery initially shocks the pair but ultimately teaches both to let go and live a little. Meanwhile Howard gives a positive interview to local reporter Steve Marshall, saving the surgery's reputation but afterwards Franc approaches Steve with the offer of a 'real story.'
Episode 173
Having booked for a chocolate tasting day Zara and Daniel find they have to attend a training day with their colleagues - so Karen and Rob take their place, pretending to be them - and more or less get away with it. At the training session Niamh begins the exercises badly, taking things personally when she sees her name in the paper but finally makes a good impression.
Episode 174
Prospective father Greg Swanson annoys his partner Amy with his distracted attitude towards their virtual baby though when Greg believes the rubber doll is talking to him he is afraid he is going mad. Franc sees it as a fear of fatherhood and supplies the appropriate therapy whilst Daniel saves the day for the surgery by bluffing reporter Steve Marshall into printing a retraction in his paper.
Episode 175
After splitting with Al, who has questioned her professional future, Niamh joins Ayesha in visiting the heavily pregnant Roisin. Though she lives in an isolated caravan she refuses hospital admission following a previous bad experience. A stray bull does not help but at least Niamh regains some of her confidence whilst Valerie canvasses for Heston but expresses so many of her own ideas that Barry suggests she stand for election herself.
Episode 176
Special constable Howard rescues young bridegroom-to-be Ed Moffat who has been tied to a lamp-post by best man Tommy Goodrich and left out in the cold all night. Ed feels inferior to Tommy and Howard quickly realizes that the 'best man' is trying to muscle in on the bride and so urges Ed to stand up for himself. Meanwhile Ayesha's aunt Tracey turns up after a ten year absence, pledging help with Sierra whilst Daniel offers advice to Al, depressed after being thrown over by Niamh.
Episode 177
When her husband leaves her Teri Kilma goes to see old flame Daniel, telling him that she conceived his child, who died, and as a result she cannot have children - the reason her husband walked out. She plans to expose Daniel to Zara but relents when she sees him happy with his son. Niamh regains her confidence after saving a man's life but is shocked when Franc kisses her and Heston comes to realize that Valerie is his rival in the election.
Episode 178
Elderly Mrs Merriam confronts former friend Mrs Waverly at reception, claiming that she is entitled to half of the three million pounds Mrs Waverly won on the lottery. Howard has his own problems when a health inspector finds a dead rat in a water tank and temporarily closes the surgery for suspected Weil's Disease though this indirectly causes the two old ladies to reconcile as Mrs Waverly comes up with the truth. Meanwhile Tracey proves her worth with Sierra to Ayesha.
Episode 179
Zara and Rob have to break the news to schoolgirl Casey Halpern that her mother has died in a traffic accident but Casey refuses to believe them and Zara tells Rob she had the same reaction when Casey's father died. However Zara is in for a surprise. Howard confides in Emma his view that Gary Lucas is behind the surgery's recent run of misfortune whilst Valerie prepares her electioneering image.
Episode 180
Mrs Tembe is shocked at what she sees as Valerie's betrayal of Heston and encourages him to get back on the campaign trail whilst Ashley and Barry begin as rival campaign managers for Valerie but decide to unite - rather to her disappointment. Meanwhile Karen and Rob are taken aback when the annoying Brendan and Judith whom they met on holiday invite themselves to stay. A lie involving a funeral backfires on the Hollins and circumstances force them to come clean, though matters resolve themselves rather sadly.
Episode 181
Jimmi is on night duty at the police station with inexperienced young officer Mark Fitzheny when a small boy is brought in who refuses to talk. Eventually a distraught woman arrives to collect him and, in Jimmi's absence, Mark releases the little boy Ben to the lady claiming to be his mother. However the real mother is a drunk with a conviction for child neglect and the claimant is a concerned neighbour whose sympathies have caused her to get overly involved. Jimmi calls on Rob to help sort things out.
Episode 182
Daniel helps young mother Keri Hallworth who is battling against poor housing conditions but feels that she is being exploited by crusading journalist Matt Broster. Romantic Emma shrugs off Niamh's warning that Franc may not be all he seems whilst Heston discovers that the private housing estate against which he is campaigning has a supporter with a vested interest - Gary Lucas.
Episode 183
Niamh is concerned for schoolboy Nathan Summers whose parents have split and whose mother wants to take him to live in Canada. Nathan has retreated into a fantasy comic but Niamh sees this as a way of his expressing how he feels. Howard learns of Gary Lucas's plans and is again convinced that Franc is a spy for Lucas whilst Mrs Tembe and Al argue over his smoking.
Episode 184
Karen is puzzled when a total stranger, Ralph Wyckham, turns up at the surgery claiming that they met at a fancy dress ball. Maybe shy agency nurse Anna can help solve the mystery. Meanwhile Al is not keen when Howard asks him to use his computer skills to expose Franc whilst Valerie and Heston are interviewed on local television with Heston coming across rather badly.
Episode 185
Franc is sceptical when recidivist Axel Hayley, who claims he can commune with the dead, head-butts him and then tells him that he received a message for Franc, Don't do it." The scepticism is compounded when Axel turns out to have a medical condition, rather than a gift. Daniel, meanwhile, has to play vet to retrieve his son's cuddly toy after it has been given to a charity shop and Al agrees to spy on Franc when Jimmi tells him that franc kissed Niamh.
Episode 186
Rob and Lynn river are called to Marie Lissimore's house when she reports the fact that her husband has been killed by an intruder. Seeing the bruises on Marie's arms they suspect that she may an abused wife who fought back but Emma believes that she is covering for somebody. Al and Howard meanwhile continue in their attempt to trap Franc.
Episode 187
Middle-aged Aileen Godolphin tells Zara she fears that she is becoming invisible and that everybody is ignoring her. Zara visits Aileen at her new job selling beauty products and finds she is being upstaged by a younger colleague so Zara steps in to build up Aileen's self-esteem. Mrs Tembe helps Heston to step up his campaign against Valerie whilst Al believes that Niamh is seeing Franc.
Episode 188
When Ginny McNiele's son is rushed to hospital she is unable to contact her policeman husband Lyle and asks Rob's help. She is unaware that Lyle has quit the force to become a children's entertainer and has a mistress - which gives Rob a dilemma. On polling day Mrs Tembe helps Heston to court the grey vote - much to his annoyance - whilst Hoard's determination to nail Franc has unfortunate consequences for Al.
Episode 189
Emma goes to the aid of schoolgirl Faith who is having an asthma attack and who tells Emma she feels unwanted by her foster parents Steph and Paul Wright as Steph is expecting a baby. In fact the couple are keen to adopt Faith but she runs off and Emma needs to track her down to tell her. With Al out of the running Howard shadows Franco on his own whilst Heston and Valerie discover the election results.
Episode 190
To Karen's puzzlement recently widowed Safia Jobson believes that a rat which has suddenly appeared in her kitchen is the reincarnation of her late husband Mick and that he has come to apologize to her for having an affair with her friend Mary. Unfortunately Mary just sees it as a rat and strikes out. Valerie, meanwhile, moves onto a better job whilst Daniel is seen to accept an offer from Gary Lucas.
Episode 191
Izzy Baldwin runs a successful design company with husband Guy but is suffering from panic attacks which she puts down to her huge debts which she fears will ruin the business. However when the man she believed to be a bailiff and refused to let in finally gets to speak to her she gets a surprise which changes the situation. Ayesha has problems with Sierra 's nursery but with her customary abruptness misinterprets Tracey's offer of help whilst Al gets close to exposing Franc's dealings with Gary Lucas.
Episode 192
Teenagers Leah Townsend, who is pregnant, and boyfriend Corey Milburn are living with his father Blake and Corey mistakes Blake's concern for Leah for something stronger. Zara however recognizes another problem. Jimmi meanwhile is not convinced that Ayesha is coping whilst Al brings his findings to Howard, who feels they should wait to get more substantial evidence against Franc. Having seen Mrs Tembe upbraid Al for smoking on the premises Franc sees his chance and, after the others have gone home, starts a fire.
Episode 193
Heston calls on elderly Irene Miller, whose son Alec has brought her back from a retirement home to die in her own bed, though he has an ulterior motive, having broken parole to ask his mother what happened to the father who left them years earlier. However she does not give him the answer he wanted. Following the fire smoker Al is the main culprit and is sent home protesting whilst Howard comes up with a temporary solution - army tents. Ayesha meanwhile begins to have second thoughts about her dismissal of Tracey.
Episode 194
Howard is delighted as the large military tents are put into use following the fire but his colleagues are less impressed. Fraudster Andy Clark cons money out of pensioner Momie Byfield by engineering a car accident which he blames on her though when he claims whiplash Niamh is unconvinced and confronts him. He plans childish revenge by loosening the ropes on the tent but Niamh outwits him and forces him to repay the money. Finally the team literally pulls together to re-erect the tent.
Episode 195
Whilst Mrs Tembe is delivering food to lonely widower Stan Atkins his old friend Arthur Packer looks in. However when Stan begins to suspect Arthur, recently diagnosed as diabetic, of having an affair with his late wife, Mrs Tembe is able to find out the truth, leading to reconciliation. Al manages to record an incriminating conversation between Gary Lucas and Franc though Howard finds it inadmissible and it is Daniel, having gone undercover, who comes up with the goods. Elsewhere Ayesha makes up with Tracey and accepts her offer of help with Sierra.
Episode 196
Karen gets involved when student Natalie Dixon uses the name of her older sister Alison when she comes to see Jimmi. The sisters fall out but are reconciled after Natalie explains her reasons. Heston causes a stir at the council meeting when he successfully opposes the planning application by exposing Franc and Gary's criminal operation. Both men are arrested but Emma feels betrayed as she truly believed that Franc loved her.
Episode 197
With the surgery now repaired, Gary and Franc arrested and the threat of the rival super-clinic removed the doctors reflect on events. Zara wonders if Daniel really wanted to work with Lucas rather than acting as an undercover agent whilst Niamh tells Al they cannot reconcile as he doubted her expertise as a doctor. Emma is visited by Franc's ex-wife Therese, who is not the hysterical virago he made her out to be and whom he has left with huge debts . They also discover that he was selling fake prescriptions to drug addicts.
Episode 198
As she approaches forty Serena Taylor tells Zara that she wants IVF treatment as her last chance for a baby but Zara believes that Serena and her younger boyfriend Gary should try once more for a natural pregnancy. However they are not what they seem to be and would appear to be happier apart. Ayesha discusses Tracey's proposal with social worker Andy whilst Al and Jimmi drown their sorrows over being unlucky in love, as do Emma and Niamh.
Episode 199
Teen-aged skate-boarder Alfie Benton tells Jimmi he has a premonition that something bad will befall him and it comes true when Jimmi discovers that the boy has internal bleeding. Jimmi must discover whether Alfie's depressive mother, his younger brother or a jealous skate-boarding rival was the attacker whilst Daniel accepts a two month locum period in Australia and Brenda confronts Ayesha over Tracey's offer.
Episode 200
As Daniel flies out to Australia a distracted Jimmi is saved from being hit by falling masonry by a woman who then disappears. He sets out to find her. Niamh tends dying John Berry, happily married to Sandra since teen-age but anxious to confess to her a one night stand he once had with her best friend Emily. For the sake of the women's friendship Niamh dissuades him whilst Karen receives an unusual birthday present.
Episode 201
Having treated Ray Haslem for an infection following a self-imposed tattoo Ayesha is about to have sex with him when Niamh phones with information that destroys the mood. Niamh also clashes with Zara over a pharmacist taking it upon herself to change a prescription whilst Jimmi still hunts for his mysterious saviour.
Episode 202
Dressed as a cat to distribute fliers for a pet shop Max tipping is arrested for assaulting Ricky Bewes, who is dressed as a dog on behalf of a rival shop. Whilst Ricky makes hoax calls to distract the under-staffed police station Max attempts to steal drugs confiscated from a deal that went wrong. But when the drugs go missing Rob realizes that the boys may have an accomplice.
Episode 203
Zara confronts pharmacist Alison Limb and accuses her of altering prescriptions without telling her but Alison counters by saying that she only did it to avoid a clash of medication and that Zara never returned her calls when she wanted to inform her. Mrs Tembe gets caught up in an argument between Professor Knott and her cleaner Edwina, whom the professor has accused of theft when it was her own absent mindedness that was responsible. Jimmi finally catches up with Heather, the woman who saved him but all hopes of a date are dashed when she tells him that already has a boyfriend.
Episode 204
Emma sees Fay Summers, who tells her that the bruises on her stomach were caused by falling off a ride whilst on holiday with her mother in Bognor. However when two men both claiming to be her boyfriend arrive at the surgery and Ayesha identifies one as something of a rogue, it becomes clear that Fay is lying. Karen finds her birthday present - a day as a zoo keeper - less than satisfactory whilst Jimmi drags Al and Ayesha to the pub where he knows that Heather can be found.
Episode 205
Divorcee Sheila Harker tells Heston she is worried about her 15-year old son Peter, who is obsessed with wolves, even claiming to be feeding one locked in a neighbour's garden shed. Heston believes Peter is creating a fantasy world to cope with the loss of his father but the wolf proves to be all too human. Ayesha tells Jimmi that Sierra will be living permanently with Tracey whilst Jimmi himself receives a welcome phone call.
Episode 206
Zara sees Professor Burroughs, who keeps fainting. She diagnoses cataplexy and, when he passes out after seeing Mrs Tembe, realizes that seeing black women brings back the memory of losing his Jamaican wife, for whom he is still grieving. Jimmi hits it off extremely well with Heather whilst Ayesha hands Sierra over to Tracey.
Episode 207
Nervous, indecisive Jenny Jarvis seeks Al's advice on a number of things - including non-medical matters - and when her over-bearing sister-in-law Dorothy suggests she sells her house and moves in with her she asks his opinion on that too, ultimately leading to a diagnosis of her complaint and solution to her problem. Jimmi is shocked but not displeased when Heather turns up, having left her boyfriend for him, and Mrs Tembe's attempt to help Ayesha is met with the nurse's customary abrasiveness.
Episode 208
PC Kyle Newman reports that he has tackled and disarmed a gunman, who ran off and he names him as Ceri Harris, a young man known to Karen. Karen believes Ceri to harmless and suspects that Kyle is lying. Rob allows her to prove her point. Meanwhile Jimmi asks the other doctors to a dinner party to meet Heather.
Episode 209
Leanne McKay tells Heston that she knows her weak husband David has had an affair but as he is a prospective MP she has allowed him to hush it up. However when his mistress Melanie claims she is pregnant Leanne seems surprisingly tolerant and then Melanie comes to Heston with a serious accusation. Heston is sure somebody is lying and must work out who. Meanwhile Jimmi and Heather throw a dinner party for his colleagues who are surprised to learn how little the couple know about each other.
Episode 210
Ayesha's friend Izzie, who has served time for drug dealing, reappears, asking her to steal prescription drugs for her own personal use. However, realizing that Izzie is back to dealing, Ayesha tricks her. Meanwhile Heather, annoyed that Jimmi has kept things from her, moves into Emma's and Barry's attempt to install new security measures in the surgery leads to a bomb scare.
Episode 211
Niamh is leaving Anthony Marson's house when she sees him fall to his death. His twin brother William, who was visiting, tells Rob that Anthony was always his father's favourite, leaving him the house and money but that Anthony had lost all his savings in an unwise investment and committed suicide. Anthony's possessive secretary Amy claims that William pushed Anthony to his death. Niamh and Rob must discover the truth.
Episode 212
Visiting Russian academic Anton Vasiloff comes to the surgery with symptoms suggesting he has diphtheria but his daughter Nina is getting married at a surprise location and Al has to track her down before she infects anybody else - and ends up giving her away. Zara meanwhile has a struggle coping with Daniel's workload as well as looking after Joe.
Episode 213
Rob investigates when an expensive car, taken for a test drive, is not returned to the showroom and it looks as if mild-mannered antique dealer Adrian Amerley, whose credit card was used, is the victim of identity theft. CCTV of the brazen Jo Moxey with a mystery man solves the case. Meanwhile Niamh has a tipsy heart to heart with Emma over Al, Heather shows Jimmi up at the bowling alley with her perfect strikes and Mrs Tembe encourages Barry to go for promotion.
Episode 214
Michael Bennett is suffering from high blood pressure and heart rate which he puts down to stress from work. However Heston believes that his condition has been brought on either by his suspicious wife Sally or jealous business partner Steve. Meanwhile Zara struggles to cope with Joe after sacking child minder Meena, Heather takes a pregnancy test and Al and Niamh find they still have something in common.
Episode 215
Emma is in a restaurant toilet when she encounters Sonia Overton, who is about to give birth. Sonia is terrified of child birth and hospitals and it is down to Emma, helped by manageress Merle and eventually Sonia's husband, to deliver the baby on the spot. Meanwhile Heather confesses to Niamh that she is pregnant, in all probability by her ex-boyfriend, which makes it hard for her to tell Jimmi whilst Barry triumphantly passes his mock interview with Mrs Tembe.
Episode 216
Ayesha's friend, physiotherapist Steph, falls for hunky patient, snow-boarder Jesse, and they have sex. However, when he suggests they go away together she feels he is not considering what she wants and they split. Meanwhile Heather tells Jimmi that she is pregnant and Zara continues to struggle but is too arrogant to accept Emma's offer of help.
Episode 217
Karen visits recently widowed friend Jill Warwick, who shocks her daughter Nicky and sister Gwen by announcing that she plans to sell up and move to Portugal. Karen however persuades Nicky to support her mother's decision, rather than end up like the boring Gwen - and then considers moving on herself. Meanwhile Barry has cause to be optimistic following his interview and Heather discusses her options with Jimmi.
Episode 218
Jimmi accompanies Heather to the abortion clinic but supports her decision not to go through with it whilst Zara, unusually, seeks advice on single parenting from Ayesha. Barry is less than pleased to have the irksome Krispin on works experience but Krispin proves himself to Barry and his critical father by helping trap a thief. After Krispin has gone though Barry receives unwelcome news.
Episode 219
Jimmi is short with handyman Malcolm, who has come to fix the window locks, until Malcolm cuts himself and Jimmi realizes that he has Parkinson's Disease. Later Jimmi confides in Al that he hopes he will not be a strict father as his was. Meanwhile Mrs Tembe feels responsible when Barry resigns, having failed to win promotion, and Zara is shocked when Joe bites another child, seeking long distance advice from Daniel.
