Amy Larsen is a doctor who's the Chief of Internal Medicine. She's very dedicated to her job that she's hard on her patients band on the doctors under her. When she has an accident and suffers brain trauma that cause her to forget the last 8 years of her life. She discovers that she and her husband are divorced and that her son died 7 years ago. While she recovers, her family and friends try to let rediscover herself at her own pace. In the meantime the doctors treat her latest patient a pregnant woman who has seizures that can't be explained. So they continue with the treatment she recommended before the accident.

As Larsen copes with her memory loss, a patient is placed in her room who is being treated by Heller. She can't help but weigh in on her case. And her advise makes the patient worse, which doesn't endear her to the board, who decide not to reinstate her mostly because of the negative comments the other doctors make on her. She is eventually released and goes home and learns more of what happened the past few years like her daughter not wanting to stay with her.

Larsen goes back to work but under certain conditions she needs to be with another doctor. She's to,d she will be with Sonya but Heller sends her to Coleman who is treating a man who appears to have liver problems. They assume that because he's a recovering alcoholic he relapsed. So they send his wife away so they can talk openly and he denies relapsing but obviously he is keeping something back. Heller and Sonya are treating an elderly man who has serious concerns and he's afraid.

One Small Step

Larsen learns more about her son.'s death but Michael is unwilling to tell her everything. Sonya and TJ are treating a marine who collapsed. They later learn that she's a candidate to go into space and the military wants her transferred to their hospital but TJ is unwilling to release her until they know what is wrong with her. He asks Michael to back him up but the DOD is putting pressure to have her released. Heller has a patient who is 60 years old and appears to be suffering from Alzheimer's but she only wants Larsen to treat her so he brings her in and she pretends to be how she was before the accident.

Amy and Sonya struggle to help a teen patient in need of a bone marrow transplant and his younger brother whose own health issues jeopardize his ability to donate. Jake deals with a fainting bride and her anxious groom.

Larsen goes to the house where she lived with Michael and the kids but it doesn't jar anything. She then suggests that her daughter live with her. But Michael is not sure it's a good idea. And she flubs it.because she and Heller are treating a girl who couldn't feel that apiece of glass pierced her hand. And Allen deals with an annoying man who insists on being admitted and tested and she allows it only if agrees to a few sessions with her to see if it's psychological.

After Larsen passes her re certification she's reinstated. She treats TJ's father and what she learns is not good. She recalls how she met TJ and how she inspired him to be a doctor. Jake and Sonya are treating a single mother when she needs to be confined, social services steps in and informs her that her daughter needs to be place in protective custody so the woman offers to leave but Jake and Sonya tell her they'll figure out something. Hamada gives them 24 hours. Larsen learns more about the patient Dixon and that Richard is involved.
