Werner, Ralle, and Tarik are a well-rehearsed trio at the Berlin garbage collection company. Werner, affectionately called "Captain" by everyone, has been with the company for a long time and is a true leader - someone who speaks up when something doesn't suit him. This doesn't always go down well, especially with his superior, Dorn - a former garbage collector who has risen to the top. What no one suspects: Dorn is planning modernization measures. First, the equally attractive and cool Dr. Hanna Keller shows up, wanting to statistically record her colleagues' efficiency, then the PZT04-5000 garbage robot. It's now dawning on everyone what this means; Werner, Ralle, and Tarik are also worried about their jobs, which are to be rationalized away by "Dörte." There's considerable unrest among the staff. At the same time, another drama is unfolding at the trio's "favorite Späti": Construction work on the building is dragging on endlessly, and owner Gabi is worried about her existence. The three regulars are dismayed and want to help. Meanwhile, events at their own workplace escalate further: When Ralle and Tarik manipulate the garbage robot with a self-programmed virus, a scandal ensues.

"Captain" Werner and his crew are amazed: A stroller with a baby inside is parked at the Berlin garbage collection depot. The foundling looks familiar to Werner, Ralle, and Tarik from an incident on their day trip: They had already seen little Lea at 16-year-old Marie Thieme's house. The single teenage mother lives with her 17-year-old sister Nele and their father Frank, who, however, is rarely home as a taxi driver. No one answers the door that evening when Werner and his boys knock on the door on their way home. The rescuers are determined not to call the police, as the garbage collectors already know that the Thieme family is under investigation by the Youth Welfare Office. Ralf and Tarik are forced to take little Lea in for the night. Meanwhile, Marie and Frank have noticed what Nele has been up to in their absence and are looking for Lea. Werner's plan to deliver them again the next day on the tour is thwarted by his boss Dorn, who issues a new morning order, and by Chief Dispatcher Gerald, who changes the day's route. While Marie desperately searches for her daughter, the three garbage collectors drive through the neighborhood with a baby on board. When the police get wind of this, things get dicey for the temporary fathers.
