Six months later. Mike has been in a coma since the hit-and-run accident, with Susan by his side, and nobody suspecting it was the shady Orson, who proposes marriage to Bree, without either asking for sex first. Meanwhile, Gabrielle and Carlos are getting divorced, but they are briefly reunited when their pregnant surrogate mother Xiao Mei runs away after being unable to stand Gabby's constant bickering. While adjusting to having Tom's other child around the house, Lynette realizes that the girl's trailer-trash mother, Nora, is more than she bargained for when she keeps showing up at the house with Kayla as if Tom's other wife, and makes Tom decide who comes first, a birthday party does the rest. While at the hospital, Susan is asked on a date by Ian Hainsworth, whose spouse is also in a coma. During Bree and Orson's engagement party, the mysterious Carolyn Bigsby arrives, claiming that Orson murdered his wife Alma who he claims has left him. Edie is desperately trying to sell the Young house in the aftermath of their departure from Whisteria Lane.

Bree and Orson's wedding day arrives, until the reception is interrupted when the police arrive and tell Orson that a body believed to be his ex-wife has been found; Lynette attempts to set Nora up with various single guys to keep her away from the house; Gabrielle and Carlos prepare for both the divorce and the baby's expectant arrival when Xiao-Mei goes into labor; Edie's troublesome nephew, Austin, comes to visit and has a meeting of minds with Julie; Susan continues to be uncomfortable around hanging out with Ian.

Bree and Orson are going on their honeymoon to Bermuda. But at the airport, Bree sees her runaway son, Andrew, on the public TV featured as a homeless teenager in which Bree wants to cut short their honeymoon to go look for him, against Orson's protests. After Bree unsuccessfully tries to get Andrew to return home, Orson later meets with the troublesome youth and, despite seeing the abrasive sociopath Andrew still is, persuades him to return home by relating to his inner rage and hostility. Meanwhile, Gabrielle and Lynette plan a weekend at a posh health spa while Tom is going on a camping trip with the wild and crazy kids. But Lynnette's quiet weekend is also cut short when Tom phones with an emergency and she has to go to him. But things turn for the worse when Nora arrives and insists that she tag along with Lynnette. At the spa, the lonely Gabrielle runs into her former flame, John Rowland, who's now a rising landscape designer, but regrets a one-stand with him in the morning when his fiancée shows up and nearly caches her. Susan goes on a quiet romantic getaway with Ian at a remote mountain cabin. But as usual for the klutzy Susan, things don't go as planned. Plus, she is still insecure about if she's cheating on Mike who's still comatose. Julie has another run-in with Austin McCann, whom she allegedly cannot stand but finds herself strangely attracted to as Edie notices.

Mike has woken up from his coma, but he has amnesia and has no recollection of the past two years or of who attempted to kill him. Unfortunately, the scheming Edie is there to fill in the blanks by pretending they are romantically involved. Despite the fact that Andrew has returned home and Danielle is a rising science class student, Bree finds her family is anything but perfect after learning of the "dirty way" Andrew survived while living on the streets and finds out that Danielle and her science teacher are closer than she thought. Lynette is determined not to let Parker quit baseball because he made a commitment, even though he's terrible at it. Lynette also has a talk with Tom in she persuades him to follow his own path in hunting for a new job, as well as a new career path for himself. Carlos moves back into the house, much to Gabrielle's displeasure, which escalates their personal war. Susan is still in the country with Ian after having their first romantic night together, when she cuts it short after receiving the news about Mike's revival.

The divorce between Gabrielle and Carlos reaches new levels of bitterness with both of them trying to make each other jealous. Susan is determined to jog Mike's memory, and realizes Edie has been posing as his girlfriend since he woke up from his coma. Tom decides that his dream is to open a pizza parlor, and Lynette is not delighted. But Nora makes things a little worse by fanning the flames between them to break them up. Conniving Bree tries to break up the romance between Danielle and her history teacher, who's been having an affair with her. Naughty Austin asks a reluctant Julie to help him write his English paper for class. Mike's phone number is discovered on the mystery dead woman's body by Detective Ridley.

Hurt after finding Mike with Edie, Susan professes her love for Ian, but in a very awkward way by crashing a dinner party he is throwing. Meanwhile, Gabrielle and Carlos try to rekindle their love after she finds out about a potential new job he may be getting. Bree is confronted once again by Carolyn Bigsby who invites her and Orson with her husband Harvey, where Bree learns more about Orson's past with his long-lost wife, and Orson finds out that Carolyn's husband had had an affair with the mystery dead woman, and we learn that Orson had shared the same woman. Nora and Lynette go to war after Lynette finds out that Nora had tried to break her and Tom up over his planing to open up his pizza parlor. Also, Mike starts to remember things, which include the mystery dead woman, who's name is revealed to be 'Monique'.

Everyone's lives on Wisteria Lane are forever changed when Carolyn Bigsby holds shoppers hostage at a local supermarket after finding out that her husband, the store manager, was involved with the mystery dead woman. Meanwhile, Gabrielle and Carlos finish dividing their assets: Gabrielle gets the house, and Carlos gets everything in it. Susan is preparing to go to Paris with Ian, but cancels when when learns that Julie is one of the hostages along with Austin who was caught shoplifting, as well as the cynical Edie, and Lynette and Nora whom are still feuding over Tom. Also a new guy move into Whisteria Lane into Paul Young's old house; a middle-aged man named Art Shepherd who also ends up being one of the hostages at the mercy of he psycho Carolyn Bigsby.

When Detective Ridley and the police interrupt the dinner party to arrest Orson, Bree ends her friendship with Susan, who also almost loses Ian when he discovers that she paid Mike a visit in jail. Kayla moves in with the Scavos, and she immediately gives Lynette a hard time. Gabrielle is convinced that Carlos is trying to sabotage her new relationship with Bill Pearce. Julie wonders whether she should sleep with Austin, who is having a secret affair of his own with Danielle.

Orson is confronted by Mike about Monique and her strange death, in which Orson barely survives a fall off the roof of the hospital. Bree wakes in the hospital following her "accident" and is in a hurry to return home and deal with Monique's death, herself. The truth about Monique Pollier's murder is finally revealed how both Orson and his twisted mother were involved, as well as more of Orson's past is shown. When Alma learns of Gloria's plan to murder Bree, she attempts to escape from her "prison" to warn her only to suffer a "freak accident". Tom becomes nervous over preparing for the night of the Scavo's Pizzeria grand opening, while Lynnette inadvertently makes matters a little worse with ordering the wrong chairs. Neverless, the grand opening goes off without a hitch where proposals fly left and right when Ian, learning that Mike intended to propose to Susan the night of his accident, proposes to her instead. Zach attempts to do the same to the unimpressed Gabrielle who finally ends their relationship.

Tom and Lynette have a small limousine problem when he attempts to give her a night to remember for their ninth wedding anniversary. Gabrielle gets a new boyfriend: Victor Lang, who is 15 years older than her... and wealthy. He is running for mayor of Fairview. Meanwhile, Edie's 9-year-old son, Travers, comes to Wisteria Lane, and Carlos ends up babysitting for him after the irresponsible Edie goes off on another night on the town. While Bree leaves town for a few days, Danielle reveals to Orson and Andrew that she's pregnant from her tryst with Austin who is trying to win Julie back. Orson forces Austin to leave town for good while agreeing to look after Daneielle. Mike also learns that Ian has proposed to Susan and faces off against him in a one-on-one card game for Susan's affections. In an unusual twist, Steven Culp narrates this episode as Rex Van De Kamp from beyond the grave.

But later, Gabrielle meets Victor's ex-wife, Samantha, at a fund raiser where she recognizes the dress. Meanwhile, Ian's parents, Graham and Dahlia, come for a visit where the neurotic and klutzy Susan makes a poor impression on them, while she also finds some marital secrets that Graham is hiding. Also, Mike continues seeing his hypnosis therapist to remember his happier times with Susan.

Tom also takes out his anger and frustration over being incapacitate from his injured back on the elderly Mrs. McClusky. While debating his opponent in the mayoral election, Victor Lang witnesses Gabrielle trying to make him jealous by flirting with another guy after he does not return her affections. Carlos and Edie debate with each other over wanting to continue their sordid affair after their passionate night together.

Ian invites Mike to have dinner with him and Susan to try to mend broken fences, while Susan tries to set up Mike with her wedding caterer to keep her romantic feelings for him in check. Also, a power blackout leads to the elderly Karen McCluskey having a fall and admitted to the hospital where a secret of hers is discovered by Parker Scavo who finds her long-dead husband... in her basement freezer. Tom continues to feel more threatened by Rick's charisma and food cooking skills for the pizzeria, as well as his attention to Lynnette who continues working long hours at the place.
