Vera Barnes - better known as "Madame Veda Bronski", a spiritualist and professed clairvoyant - is charged with obtaining money by deception from widow Elizabeth Penn. The Prosecution claim that she took advantage of the vulnerable Mrs. Penn and tricked her into donating £17500, supposedly towards a spiritualist centre that was never built. The Defence respond that Madame Bronski does appear to have unusual gifts and even these are disputed she has a sincere belief that she can contact the dead and help people like Mrs. Penn.
Episode 2
Mrs. Penn explains that she now feels cheated by Madame Bronski. The Private Investigator, John Wilder tells the court how he duped Bronski with a story, to expose her as a fraud. Madame Bronski explains her shared vision with Mrs. Penn.
Episode 3
Charles Percival questions Madame Bronski's integrity and morals, he delves into her financial history, claiming she needs money to pay off debts. Professor Hubert Loomis tells the court of Bronski's notable psychic capabilities.
Episode 4
The friendship of Stephen Prentice and Don Rose has faded away over the years. Now Prentice finds himself on trial for assaulting Rose during a parks football match, accused of kicking him in the head after he had fallen to the ground.
Episode 5
Referee Billy Squires is recalled to court as James Laughton attempts a re-enactment of the incident. Doctor Goldie gives medical evidence, while witness Harry Harper claims Stephen Prentice was drunk on the night in question.
Episode 6
Ann Merritt reads a letter from the accused to Mrs. Rose. Linesman Tony Lofting testifies about the alleged kicking incident. Ian Shelborne gives a character reference for Stephen Prentice before Mrs. Rose provides her evidence.
Episode 7
Journalist Alvin Knight has accused Police Constable Bell of assault. Knight, who was protesting at a rally alleges that Bell attacked him with a truncheon in an unprovoked attack. Mr. Justice Mitchenor hears the case.
Episode 8
Dr. Joanna Whiting details Knight's injuries and the impact of the attack. Knight's girlfriend Sonia Barnes explains what she witnessed, before Bell states that Knight actively took part in the protest, and assaulted him.
Episode 9
Constable Copesley reinforces Bell's claims that Knight resisted arrest, he asserts that he witnessed Knight firmly resisting arrest. Rosemary Davenport disputes Copesley's evidence, querying how he could have seen what he claims.
Episode 10
Veronica Ives is accused of assaulting her friend and former companion Fiona Pringle. Pringle explains how she was financially beholden to Veronica, but after a successful business venture allowed her to leave, the accused became violent.
Episode 11
Caroline Paradise describes how she saw Veronica pushing Fiona over the balustrade, and tells the court how Fiona tried to sabotage the business. Bird fancier Eric Cattermole shares the tape, which randomly caught the scuffle.
Episode 12
Veronica Ives explains that she was upset to learn that Fiona and Caroline had left, and that she simply went to get her iron, she explains that Fiona attacked first. Eric Cattermole's wife throws the case on its head.
Episode 13
Leonora Davies is accused of attempting to kidnap Janice Warrington, the daughter of her ex employer. Davies was dismissed from Warrington's electricals and intended to blackmail Janice for the sum of £50k with the help of Robert Criddle.
Episode 14
Janice Warrington is adamant that she heard both Leonora and Criddell in the room when she was gagged and given chloroform, the defence argue she couldn't have heard clearly. Aldred Warrington describes Leonora as scheming and vindictive.
Episode 15
Leonora's husband Tom gives his evidence, claiming that the couple were well off and that he was happy for his wife to leave Farringtons. Leonora composes herself and explains the bizarre reason for going to the pub with Criddell.
Episode 16
A fire in the Sycamore Grove nightclub resulted in the deaths of seventeen people and injuries to many others. However this was no accident in the view of the Prosecution. They allege that owner Janet Godfrey and general manager Paul Flood were responsible for the fire through gross negligence as they failed to maintain a safe building. Both defendants though insist they fulfilled their responsibilities correctly.
Episode 17
The court hears evidence from the Sycamore Grove's head barman, who explains what happened, and who he thinks is to blame. The local fire officer outlines how people died and suggests how the fire started. Mrs. Godfrey begins her defence.
Episode 18
Specialist Dr. Wilmer explains how he thinks people at Sycamore Grove died, and Paul Flood begins his evidence. The jury must decide who's responsible for the fire, Flood or Godfrey, or the pair jointly?
