The team investigates a body of a woman which is found in a cruise ship's engine room which hasn't been in service for over 40 years, when it is being refurbished. The body is identified as that of a woman who was a passenger in 1966. So they talk to her friend who was traveling with her and some of the ship's crew. At the same time, Lily is testifying at the hearing of the man who tried to kill her.

The fatherless boys were desperate as their lush mother Chelsey, meanwhile in prison, provided nothing but dubious boyfriends unfit as stepfather, even asked Nash for money when he finally found an corporate sponsor. That frustrated the sports ship owner who expected to become his official sponsor after years of informal support, including a place to sleep. Furthermore, skater friends including a junkie were desperate to learn, buy or sell Nash's 'tricks', especially one just too hard to copy.

Scotty's team finds Alex tried to protect weaker boys, even turning bullies into buddies, and to beat the unjust system, but got into dangerous trouble with supervisors Jimmy Clarke, an ex-con who became his mentor, and Laticia Myers, refused at police academy for mental problems after a ghetto trauma. It also turns out the well-meaning academy director Evan Price got somewhat corrupted by helpful Judge Harold 'Harry' Alvarez's in-law who owns the facility. Eddie Saccardo comes protect Lilly against the assailant on bail.

Having written a hit, he demanded artistic control to move away stylistically, in hindsight to the future of soul, but was laughed away by his shortsighted producer, who also refused to use his full orchestration and a great female voice on a dull face.

Their last of several foster parents Kenneth and Alice Watson, then already a crumbling marriage, have incompatible stories, and like Meesha, who wrongly felt abandoned, are part of dark secrets.

The case was covered up by police officer Ray Bianchi, still reluctant to cooperate, who argues arresting individual Tong thugs doesn't help, only forging an armed peace.

The team investigates the 1999 murder of Luke Cronin, an 18 year-old member of a prep school debate team who supposedly committed suicide after losing his first debate. A 2009 debater checked his archives and presents new evidence in private shorthand, suggesting his death may be staged. Luke was super-gifted but the odd man out, as son of blue collar veteran Stan Cronin, from whom the jealous studax got estranged, as well as from his former school teammate and buddy Ronnie Jacks, on whom pretentious future attorney Oliver Calhoun pulled a cruel prank the evening before the fatal night. The team also focuses on the prep school debate coach, who couldn't afford his star announcing he would leave rather than move on to national competitions and finds the fatal weapon was recently purchased by the anti-gun father.

The team reopens the 1980 murder of Tommy Flanagan, an 18 year-old ice hockey player, who was beaten to death on his team's ice rink on the same night the U.S. hockey team surprise-defeated the Soviet Union at the Winter Olympics. The never-tried but public-ostracized prime suspect, who finds even his teen son is refused for a try-out, comes forward in 2009 with a solid romantic alibi on the fatal night. The only clue the team has on them is a broken hockey stick, not hos, but expensive Norwegian hand-crafted import, so the team must go through the victim's former teammates, including brute Frank Krause whose spot he took, and others to get the culprit. Everybody hazed the super-zealous 'shrimp', but came to respect him, unlike sadistically-harsh coach Heaton, whose 'off limits' daughter Molly started dating Tommy. His own big brother Sean Flanagan initially was jealous, his own career being wrecked by a accident, but eventually handed his treasured lucky stick, and deadbeat womanizing buddy Dwight Barnes got Molly pregnant.

The team investigates the 2005 murder of Mike Donley, a 28 year-old Army recruiter who was killed two days before his deployment to Iraq after a Green Beret Bobby Kerns provides evidence in 2010 that Donley may somehow have been involved in the street gang pawnshop burglary that occurred the fatal night. He was killed in the same bad neighborhood where he mainly recruited boys to turn their lives around too, away from drugs and crime, like Bobby Kerns, whose own record proves dodgy. Some families objected to recruitment, like Kevin Harkin's veteran father, who duly insisted his bright heir should at least finish college first, or blamed him when the boy falls in action, which also got to Mike so much as to apply for his own re-deployment.

His sneaky secretary inherited the agency and clientele, including fancy attorney Wilson Katz, whose socialite client Caroline hired Henry to find her runaway daughter Bunny Hargreave, allegedly died in a car crash with total burn-out shortly before Henry's dead, but he played a double game.

Meanwhile, Valens secretly looks into a lead on the man who mugged and raped his mother and exchanges punches to arrest him.

Yates's FBI superior is furious she involved municipal and state police in an non-authorized investigation, and got shot at while the suspect is found murdered.
