13 Episodes 1990 - 1991
Episode 1
The character of Digger Reily was axed from the series in 1992 during a mass culling by the shows producers. When Digger arrived on the ward everyone knew that it would be a terminal illness that would finally take his life. And so it was - Wednesday 12th May...in the final episode, actor Richard Calabro pulled out all the stops and gave one of the shows most heart-wrenching, emotionally charged performances. The exquisitely performed bed/death scene (with full husky, prolonged dialog and 'beeping' machines) that the series has ever seen. Fantastic! The staff and patients on the ward were horrified to hear of his untimely death. A real classic episode!
Episode 2
Lee loves pigs bladders more than his own father, but Kieran doesn't love Diane enough.
Episode 3
Bad behaviour is rife, with group gambling, underage fireworks, and Danny throwing a wobbly with his foods and his drinks.
Episode 4
In the tradition of more adult continuing dramas, nobody can have fun without something going wrong, and so Cal has a fit at the fireworks. Danny needs to quash his use of orange squash. Mitchell's meanness mask moves momentarily.
Episode 5
Gail Bevan hopes her namesake's NHS can cure her sick baby. There is slim chance of radio silence with Rowena's voice in such fine fettle. The student nurse is too naive to realize that her beautiful face doesn't need warpaint to look good.
Episode 6
To use a fitting football analogy, Lee is "back home". Another formerly warring boy & girl become friends. The kids treat the hospital corridors as a race course. Diane is dismayed to see Kieran blown away by Gail.
Episode 7
Lee's kidney fails when all he wanted was to liver little. Subtlety isn't Sister's strong suit. The kids try to turn each other as white as the hospital sheets with their ghostly goings on.
Episode 8
Jack causes a scene about tartrazine. New boy Sam has been drinking caustic soda instead of soda pops. Kieran behaves as naughtily as the children.
Episode 9
The whole Jones family turn the hospital into Bedlam. Owen is admitted with another fracture, but is it owing to what he admitted? Jack wants a Santa clause in his contract.
Episode 10
Helen falls over the Christmas crackers, but she doesn't get a sweet toy, just acute appendicitis. Could there be wedding bells on the horizon as well as sleigh bells?
Episode 11
Bryony and Mitchell get the wrong end of the stick. Helen seems to be running her house. Lucy's pet tortoise and Keely both have Christmas babies.
Episode 12
Frances feels hurt and excluded from Eddie's immature family, while Mitchell is left out by the other staff. Something must be in the water on the ward, as another marriage proposal come forth. The Jordan situation becomes clear.
Episode 13
New boy Mickey has trouble written all over him. Not easy Keeping up with the Joneses, as now it seems it's parents reunited. The staff party hard at Charlotte & Steve's wedding, but the fire in their hearts is no match for the one in the ward.
