Meanwhile, Severide helps Agent Alex Ward solve a homemade explosives case and Otis receives a welcome surprise.

After helping him, Cruz overhears the fireman who was with the man who was injured telling what happened. Cruz then tells Severide the story he told doesn't jive with how the equipment was set up. Severide says he knows the man and says he's a good man but Cruz won't let it go and a new guy tells them he was at that station and says the two men were butting heads. Severide decides to pursue it which causes the brass to come down on them. Boden informs Borrelli that he is being bumped off the team for someone with seniority.

With election approaching Casey's opponent tries to fling a little mud on him by saying he intends to continue working for the fire department even if he wins, in other words, he's going to be double dipping. Which leads to the Chief coming to the station and questioning Casey's intentions which leads Casey to promise he's done campaigning but when his opponent schedules a debate, Casey finds himself in a precarious position. And when the squad goes a reported gas leak, they find the remains of a child in the chimney. They break it to get to the remains. Later a detective shows up to tell Severide because of what he did, the evidence was compromised. She then shows him crime scene photos and Kelly thinks he knows who the child is--a child who went missing a few years ago. Problem is that the child went missing at a location far from the house. The detective wants to be sure but Kelly goes to see the girl's mother to tell her that he might have found her daughter. And the detective tells him because of what he did, investigating them will be difficult.

So they have a wager to see who's better so Dawson prepares a series of contests for them. Otis sees something is wrong with him so he goes to Chicago Med to check it out but is unwilling to have the tests. A woman Brett and Borelli helped calls them again but only to thank them and she shows up at the station with a gift for them.

And he refuses to let her go so she goes with him to the hospital and she finds out that he's a foster child and his guardian is seriously injured so he ends up in a state facility and Dawson is worried about him. Severride was nearly trapped in the house because he thought someone was in the house but there wasn't so he tells Boden if they have a new type of mask they can tell if there is someone in a fire. But Boden says the Chief says it's not in the budget, so Casey tries to find a way to get it. Stella and Hermann have a dispute about the ice they use at Molly's. And when Cruz learns about Otis avoiding getting tested, he decides to turn to the one person Otis can't say no to.
