Arthritis and rheumatism affects almost a third of the population and costs the country a billion pounds every year in lost working days. Anti-inflammatory drugs are prescribed by GPs as their main weapon against the disease but almost all of them have distressing side-effects. The vast majority of rheumatoid patients actually get worse whilst taking them. On location we visit clinics and therapists to examine the scale of the problem and in the studio Health Minister, Dr Gerard Vaughan, meets a group of patients to debate treatment options and ask if there is a Better Alternative?
