Episode 1

Opening Night

Ward 17 is business as usual as Bron heads off to help Lyle through the "opening night" nerves his play premiere has given rise to. But the best laid plans go horribly wrong when an earth tremor buckles train tracks and the train they are travelling on with 300 passengers on board jack-knifes hitting a tunnel pylon at high speed. Trapped in the damaged train carriage, Bron sustains a head injury but still tries to treat the wounded around her while attempts are made to free them from the wreckage. When the carriage starts to shift, the passengers are promptly buried under the carriage's collapsed roof. The tremor also hits Ward 17 and Von injures her wrist in a fall. With Von's arm in plaster, Ward 17 is understaffed and already at full capacity with patients but still everyone gears up for the influx of additional casualties from the train disaster. Dr Luke Forlano and the paramedics Ben, Scott and Rebecca attend the accident scene and all of them are shocked by the extent of the carnage. Things are made worse when they discover that Bron and Lyle are somewhere in the train. A gas leak triggers an explosion and not everyone gets out in time.

The Show Must Go On

Terri and Mitch continue to dance around each other as the workload builds and more and more patients land on their doorstep with no more staff allocated to nurse them. And the tension between them is also rising. Luke and the trauma team set up operation at the accident site. Dom arrives, knowing some of his boys and one of the St. Anthony's teachers are on the train, and the lie that he is a priest comes a little too easily to his lips. It's his ticket into being granted special access to the accident site. Bron and Lyle are removed and sent to Ward 17 immediately. The boy trapped in the carriage doesn't fare so well and Dom struggles with his conscience on who has the right to immediate treatment - the boy or the elderly teacher. Luke amputates a man's leg in a train carriage, with Ben watching him in a new light. Ben witnessed Luke performing the same brain surgery earlier that he performed on him some months ago. With no operating suites available, Mitch is forced into performing life saving surgery in the ward. Terri becomes his support and the unspoken bond between them strengthens once more. On the train station, tempers flare between Rebecca and Scott, the latter still stinging from losing his patient earlier. Dom arrives at Ward 17 with the young boy and Paula realises he is the son of the man she's been dealing with. Father and unconscious son reunite but Terri is acutely aware of the fact that Dom is not celebrating. Her efforts to find out why meet with a wall and she realises things with him are nowhere near ideal.

In the Lap of the Gods

Terri discovers Bron isn't coping with the tragic loss of Lyle. Nelson is harbouring a dark and personal secret that unexpectedly reveals itself. Dom questions his actions over his decision to play God with train crash victim Josh and is surprised, but equally pleased, by Terri's affections during his personal crisis. Ben and Scott become embroiled in a family situation. Luke's injured hand means he may never operate again.

Slings and Arrows

When a patient in Jared's care leaps off the balcony of Ward 17, Jared feels enormous guilt and he knows he will most likely cop the blame. The shocked staff of Ward 17 needs a debriefing and Terri's management of the ward is also questioned. Ben and Scott are caught in the firing line of a domestic shoot-out with lethal intent. It's Von's worst nightmare to see her patient Claire dying from the same disease, Lupus, that she has - she can't hide from the truth any longer.

Private Affair

Rumours circulate Ward 17 that Von is having an affair with one of her patients. Terri is placed in a difficult position when Mitch admits Rose's mother, Victoria, with a suspected heart condition. Nursing an Olympic figure skater who is thinking of going solo parallels Bron's decision to take some time off to travel, alone, before marrying Ben. Pressured by Luke to address the loss of passion for her work, Kylie realises that the problem is her discontent with Jared - and their relationship.

Loose Lips

Rumours that Mitch and Terri are having an affair run wild throughout Ward 17. In order to protect Terri from gossip Mitch thinks about taking a post at another hospital. Luke's arm injury looks as grim as his future career in surgery. A distraught husband attacks Rebecca, blaming her for the death of his wife. The mother of a heart-donor breaches security and visits the recipient. A love bite leads to complications for a patient.

Invisible Things

Von and Mitch are shocked when their patient reveals his dying secret - he got terminal radiation poisoning from inside All Saints hospital. A skeptical Luke resorts to Chinese medicine in the hope of curing his arm, and his future as a surgeon. A Chinese businessman is refusing western medicine even though he has colon cancer. Mitch and Nelson have a falling out over the treatment of Mary Willard, as Nelson questions Mitch's judgment. Bron's emotional farewell ends with Ben getting more than he'd bargained for.

All Choked Up

Mitch and Rose must decide their future - stay together or divorce? Mitch tells Terri he has made the difficult decision on whether or not he'll divorce Rose. Breaking all the rules, Paula rejects Terri and Luke's orders on how to care for a patient that she has become emotionally attached to. Kylie saves the day with her hand down a patient's throat.

Flaws in the Glass

Mitch and Rose finally decide whether to save their marriage or to go their separate ways. Nelson nurses a formidable, fiercely intelligent ex Head Mistress, who gives him hell. Von and Luke treat an epileptic woman who refuses the drugs that will control her seizures. Ben, pining for Bron, is surprised to hear that Scott's household have received a postcard from her. Terri and Nelson treat a young Islamic woman with pregnancy induced hypertension.

Only Human

Paula is assigned to keep a VIP patient happy but is subjected to sexual harassment, and later accused of accepting money. Luke's first day back in surgery nearly ends in disaster. Mitch is moving out of home and makes a mistake with Lucy's health, as does a young pregnant mother who contracts German Measles from her unimmunised son. The new CEO makes his presence felt, and Ward 17 is under pressure to produce an impossible budget in impossible working conditions - but Nelson rises to the challenge set by Terri.

Chemistry

Rose makes a surprise visit to Ward 17 to deliver a bombshell to Terri. Terri and the team look on in horror and disbelief as Mitch hesitates to save his patient's life. Mitch is torn between his duty and his heart, as his patient doesn't want to live. Mitch and Terri confront their conflicting notions of love, when an older couple decide to die together. Ben's dysfunctional family dynamic is revealed when he finds out that his sister's illness has been kept from him.

No Respite

Jared catches Matt and Scott in bed together and throughout the day he teases them about it. Matt has a sad reunion with an ex-girlfriend, Anna, who has been beaten severely by her boyfriend while Rebecca decides to save Scott's reputation. Kane Sharpe returns to All Saints which throws Mitch into a tizzy which only makes him reconsider his professional future. The hospital's Respite Care Ward has closed and Nelson discovers that Ward 17 is being unfairly treated because of it. Meanwhile, Von nurses a woman who has suffered through lack of support.

Thicker Than Water

When amnesia patient Ross Fowler awakes, he tells Paula he has just had a shocking recollection of what he did to his children. The police are called in and the search for his missing children begins. Jared and Kylie finally come to loggerheads over a melanoma patient when a very jealous Jared suspects Kylie and Luke are an item. Terri parallels her relationship with Mitch with this trouble on her ward which frustrates Mitch to a point where he takes matters into his own hands. Von and Nelson conflict over an elderly patient who is grieving for her recently deceased mother.

Episode 14

Pride & Prejudice

Mitch finds that he is up against formidable opposition with his proposal to set up a heroin detox centre and puts Terri offside with his desperate actions. Von makes an unusual discovery on a patient who is convinced he is 'hexed' by his ex-girlfriend. After six months away from the hospital, Don Murphy's appalling bedside manner has not improved, and one of his patients tells him exactly what she thinks of him. Paula wrongly assumes that an Asian woman, married to an Australian man, is the victim of domestic abuse. Ben and Scott treat a man who is the victim of an eleven-year-old's campaign of anti-homosexual harassment.

Overload

Nelson calls a strike in Ward 17 because of the lack of equipment and money which puts everyone under pressure which results in a death, and the ultimate resignation of Jared. Mitch cops the wrath of a strung out Terri, who gives him an earful for abusing his staff, and Mitch attacks Paula, accusing her of jeopardising a patient's life.

Episode 16

Swept Away

Terri is forced to face her ultimate fear - losing her true love Mitch. When Mitch comes into contact with a possible Ebola virus patient, he and another doctor are quarantined along with the patient. Fearing for Mitch's life and unable to reach him, Terri becomes increasingly distracted from her work. Nelson's alert nursing leads to the revelation that a patient admitted for concussion has a far worse condition. Driven by her fears for Mitch, Terri becomes irrationally determined to admit an elderly man so he can comfort his sick wife.

All the Right Reasons

After spending the night with Mitch Terri takes a 'sickie'. Nelson, acting NUM in Terri's absence, urges the others to a team effort. Bron returns from England to a bizarre welcome from Jared and Scott who feud over Jared's interference with Scott's study. Von plays matchmaker when she realises that an MVA patient has fallen in love with an East Timorese girl he has married so that she can obtain permanent residency in Australia. Ben and Rebecca attend to a forklift operator trapped beneath fallen newsprint rolls which stops Ben being able to pick up Bron at the airport.

Coming Clean

Luke finds out there's a new Coronial Inquiry into the death of Dawn (Ma) O'Connell. Luke knows more than he's prepared to admit and it could ruin him and his family forever. The presence of the Coroner's Investigating Officer, creates ripples in the ward as, one by one, the staff are interviewed. Jared is going for a job interview. Or is he? Bron finds he's hiding something. A wily outback type presents with a nail stuck right through his hand. His determination to fix himself leads to greater and greater complications. A young girl arrives in emergency suffering from abdominal pains and is surprised to be treated seriously as her mother almost never listens to her.

Shame

Terri loses her respect for Luke when the Coroner's Inquest into Ma O'Connell's death uncovers the truth of Luke's part in her death. Bron feels pressured to confess to Ben that during her time overseas she was unfaithful to him. Victoria arrives to tell Mitch that Rose has decided to fight for full custody. While treating Don Murphy's wife, Mitch and Paula become caught up in the shame destroying Don's marriage. Kylie struggles with her childhood demons when a diagnosis reveals that her patient has been adopted.

Episode 20

White Noise

After rescuing a young boy from a treacherous situation, Von realises that he has no idea how to play games or have fun and decides to teach him. Jared makes a surprise visit to Ward 17. Rebecca starts to question her career as an ambulance officer. Nelson oversteps the mark when he tries to tell an indigenous patient how to think, feel and what to do on his forthcoming journey to the outback to find his roots. Meanwhile, Mitch and Terri agree to break up for a while as the pressure over the custody battle for Lucy pushes them to the brink.

Personal Matters

Paula's mother is involved in a car accident with Paula's son Max. Rebecca's accidental overdose of Paula's mother pushes her to resign. Adam Finch is discharged from All Saints without receiving his splenecotomy vaccinations. Von goes to his house and is horrified to discover the squalor and filth he and his grandmother live in. After making sure he gets his vaccinations, Von cleans up the house. Adam is still unsure of Von's intentions, but it seems a breakthrough of sorts has been made. Bron is gearing up for the wedding and all the while the secret of her overseas fling with a guy called Andy to keep from Ben. Jared asks Mitch for a job working in the new detox clinic but his recent personal drug problem undermines his chances. Mitch finds it impossible to cool things off with Terri.

Episode 22

M for Memory

On the verge of opening his rapid induction detox clinic, Mitch is visited by his cousin Paul. The visit gives Terri a new insight into the childhood episode that shaped Mitch's life - the death of his sister Lucy. Mitch has to deal with a very determined Rebecca who is desperate to join the detox clinic's staff. Bron nurses a teenage boy recovering from a drinking binge who can't explain how his 15-year-old sister ended up unconscious, gravely ill, and sexually assaulted. Von attempts to persuade Adam's mum, Gina, to seek treatment for her heroin addiction. Dr Charlotte Beaumont replaces Mitch on Ward 17.

Episode 23

Running on Empathy

Mitch's world is falling apart. Rose has delivered a news bombshell, stating that baby Lucy is not his daughter. He gets drunk and Terri won't have a bar of it. Terri seems distant, unsupportive and it looks like she's returning to the religious order. Scott's lack of understanding for Rebecca leaving the service takes an about face when her replacement dies in his arms. Having fixed a patient's surgical problems, Luke's prowess as a physician is put to the test when he has to find a medical solution for a Tourette's sufferer. Von is being sucked into the quagmire of a heroine addict's dysfunctional life.

Episode 24

First Steps

Mitch decides to take a DNA test and fight for custody of Lucy. It's also the first day of treatment with his new detox clinic. Von is attacked by Adam when she interferes with his heroin-addicted mother. Terri is missing Mitch and is unsure about his decision to get the DNA test. Her day gets worse when she suspects the new agency nurse is drunk.

Judgement Day

Bron finally plans to tell Ben that she has had an affair with Andy when she was away which doesn't bode well for their planned marriage. Terri's wish for more romance in her relationship gives Mitch the cheeky idea to plan her a surprise romantic dinner-in her office. Assessment day for the staff of Ward 17 has everyone on their toes.

Due Diligence

Terri can't hide the news from Mitch any longer - she is pregnant and unsure of how Mitch is going take the surprise. With only seven days until their wedding, Bron is desperate to repair her relationship but delivers an unexpected announcement. Nelson has the hots for Charlotte, the new Ward 17 doctor, and asks her out for a date which turns into a shocking revelation. Mitch and Terri's romantic weekend away turns to tragedy when they find Mitch's cousin Paul and his partner Hannah involved in a major car accident.

Episode 27

In the Family Way

When Mitch's cousin Paul is confronted with the pain of watching his lover, Hannah, trapped in a nightmare of a permanent comatose state, he is determined to become her full-time carer. But her parents have other ideas. Paula sees a glimmer of hope that Max's delinquent father Michael will become involved in his life after saving a little boy from a car fire. However, when she pays him a surprise visit on the Ward she gets a very different answer. A patient who refuses to terminate a life-threatening pregnancy for religious reasons sparks conflict for Terri with both Charlotte and Mitch. Rumours start as Bron spots her ex-fiance Ben leaving Matt's birthday party with Paula. Terri and Mitch are mortified when their 'news' is unexpectedly announced to the ward.

An Itch to Scratch

Suffering from morning sickness, Terri's day turns sour when she's caught in the crossfire of a bitter dispute between Mitch and Charlotte after one of his clinic patients is admitted to the ward following an overdose. Paula is forced to consider medicating her son Max to ease his behavioural problems after he hijacks an ambulance. With their first baby on the way, Terri and Mitch decide it's time to move in together - and they soon find the perfect home. Bron's unhappy personal life interferes with her work. Von finds she cannot distance herself from her young friend Adam who makes his way back to the ward.

Episode 29

No Expectations

Jared's personal crusade to save heroin addicts living in the underground takes a tragic turn when he loses one to an overdose. Kylie realises how empty her life outside work is when she treats a man completely at peace with the fact that he is dying of cancer. Ben makes a promise to Max and Paula spends the day tortured by her belief that Ben will disappoint him. Ben becomes reacquainted with widower Harvey Swaine. Charlotte faces Warwick Ellis' prejudice when she steps in to treat Harvey contrary to hospital insurance policy. When Luke operates on some of Bernie Farelly's fingers after an accident in his butcher's shop he is forced to deal with the five stages of Bernie's grief.

The Untouchables

Jared is ambushed and sexually assaulted. Terri knows the sex of the baby - and Mitch will bribe anyone to know too. Dr Warwick Ellis cuts himself during an operation on a transsexual patient and is convinced that he might have been exposed to HIV. Bron and Terri help a patient come to terms with the fact that she is not unclean, despite what the other patients think, just because she is diagnosed with Leprosy.

Where the Heart Is

A young ballet dancer divides the ward when Paula wants to use restraints after she becomes violent as a result of suffering withdrawals from pain killers. Scott's mother is admitted to ward 17 after a car accident. Jarred continues to withdraw from everyone as a result of his assault. The future of Mitch's drug clinic is in jeopardy with one of the staff admitting to hiding their past addiction. Nelson asks for Teri's support while he is in charge of the shift.

Secrets

A visit from Terri's sister could have tragic consequences. Terri is rushed to hospital and everyone prays that the baby will be okay. Bron confronts Paula - accusing her of dating ex-fiancé Ben. Jared's secret looks like being revealed when he is found trying to shoot up antibiotics, after his rapist's girlfriend is diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease. Mitch refuses to back down when Peter Buchanan challenges his dismissal for drug use. Luke has a problem on his hands when a colleague suffers complications from a simple operation.

Bedtime Stories

Charlotte's cancer patient wants her to make a life or death decision on her behalf. When one of Mitch's clinic patients falls into a coma, he fears it may be another nail in the coffin of the clinic. Ben helps a pregnant woman to hospital who has conceived her baby from donor sperm donated by an ambulance officer. Ben is left wondering - could it be his? Jared is in denial about his feelings in the aftermath of his rape. In a jealous rage, Bron decides to do something that will shock Ben and everyone else in Ward 17.

When All Is Lost

A fire at the drug detox clinic jeopardizes Mitch's professional future. A fall results in another health scare for Terri - will she and the baby be OK? Bron scores an unexpected promotion that ruffles Nelson's feathers. Matt, the ward's one-person rumor mill, goes into overdrive after learning that Charlotte and Bron's kissed.

Into the Light

Charlotte and Von fight for the rights of an elderly same-sex couple who face separation after one is admitted to the ward. Jared is empowered when he realises he was not to blame for his own sexual assault. Bron finally believes she can face her childhood abuser without feeling a victim. Mitch, after desperately trying to keep his clinic afloat, finally loses the battle and his power base. Ben is starting to feel trapped by Paula's interest in him.

Big Kids

After waking up bloodied and bruised, Mitch finds out - the hard way - that getting drunk makes more problems, not solves them, when he is arrested for assault. Matt is accused of exposing himself to the seven-year-old daughter of an over-protective patient. While he is ultimately cleared, he sees it as a sign to leave the ward and hands in his resignation. Charlotte's broken heart is revealed when another doctor's husband is admitted to the ward. Rebecca feels that her relationship with Scott is going nowhere - until he says 'I love you'. Paula accuses Bron of being unprofessional, and stopping her from going away with Ben - but Paula learns that she is the one behaving like a child.

You Should've Said

Just when his mother looks like she has her life back in order, Adam Finch is found unconscious after a drug overdose, throwing Von into turmoil. Terri returns home to find Mitch in a state of disrepair and she sets about getting him back on the rails. Charlotte and Jared are amazed when a 'professional' patient's chronic nausea seems to improve after being put on a drug trial. Nelson is appalled when he discovers a terminal cancer patient hasn't told her husband of her dire prognosis but he is forced to reassess his opinion when he learns her reason. Scott has told Rebecca that he loves her - why hasn't she said it back? Kylie learns she has been accepted for a new job in Paris.

Episode 38

Hear Me, Touch Me, Heal Me

Rebecca and Scott get caught in the crossfire of a bikie war. When a gunman appears on the ward, Mitch charges to Terri's rescue, and is almost killed in the process. A woman with a long list of unrelated symptoms is ear bashing everybody. Von finds the reason her young patient is withdrawn and self-mutilating is because he has a hearing problem.

Down to Earth

When a paranoid schizophrenic patient named Ian Neal becomes convinced the world has been taken over by aliens, he takes Bron and her ex-fiancé Ben hostage. Determined to give the pair a ritual purification, he holds Bron's head underwater while her former lover is forced to watch helplessly. When a sixty-five year old man has a massive stroke Luke sees an opportunity for a young woman to get the lung transplant she desperately needs. But the man's wife resists turning off his life support. What is the hold her husband has on her and why does she insist on holding his body hostage? The new ward clerk has Jared's full attention but Nelson sees through her act. Mitch discovers that Rose is taking him for everything in the divorce settlement.

Consuming Passions

Terri's ethics are put to the test when she tries to help an elderly patient come to terms with his wife's death. Von fights to hold Adam's family together in a difficult time as he continues his self-destructive behaviour. Ben's confused over his feelings for Bron and Paula's feeling the cold. Charlotte suggests a radical treatment for a woman who refuses a surgical procedure. After the failure of her marriage, Regina return to Ward 17 and tries her hand at playing matchmaker for Nelson. Jared loses his patience while nursing a developmentally delayed patient. When Ian Neal escapes custody it has tragic repercussions for Ben.

Episode 41

Musical Beds

Paula and Bron are both on hand when Ben, recovering from his stab wounds, is transferred from ICU to Ward 17. Luke is disgusted when Craybrook reappears at All Saints as a teaching consultant. Nelson and Rebecca run a bed allocations scheme to avoid chronic care patients. Jared and Kylie work together on her last day to solve a patient's kidney problems, and end up solving Jared's problem too. Scott's suspicions are confirmed about his new temporary partner.

Episode 42

Twice the Fun

Nelson is offered a promotion as the new NUM in the Emergency Department but the day doesn't turn out the way he'd hoped when a highly charged ethical dilemma presents itself after a critically injured truck driver's two families arrive in the ED. His day is further complicated by the arrival of a mystery woman. Mitch is rattled when Rose makes a small but unexpected appearance, and is then confused by a puzzling case that Charlotte may hold the key to. Mitch becomes worried that he is no longer performing up to standard. Bron, who is replaces Nelson as 2IC, is trying to smooth the waters with Paula but only succeeds in making things worse. Ben's slow recovery in ICU is frustrating Bron, who wants to work through their problems.

Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

An elderly patient has some startling bad memories. Terri and Mitch struggle to come to terms with the reappearance of Rose on the ward. Ben has some tough explaining to do. Scott finds his problem with his new partner worsening. Nelson nurses a patient who brings up bad memories for him.
