Set 18 months after the events of the prior season, Day 8—which begins at four in the afternoon—opens with Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) drawn back into the homeland-security business when an assassination plot is launched against Middle Eastern leader Omar Hassan (Anil Kapoor), who's in the U.S. to negotiate an arms pact with President Allison Taylor (Cherry Jones). Not long after daybreak, however, the super-agent shifts focus and sets out to avenge a personal tragedy.
