In China, the poor worker Tietou repairs tractors and misses his sweetheart Xiu Xiu, back in Japan, she having never sent any news to her family or him. While illegally emigrating to Japan, Tietou loses his Chinese documents and so cannot return to his country. He is welcomed by his countrymen who lodge and work in Shinjuku where they also help him to find illegal work. While running from a police raid through the sewage system where Chinese are illegally working, Tietou saves Inspector Kitano from drowning in the dirty water. Later, after an incident with his cousin, Joe, and a Taiwan gang, Tietou saves the powerful Yakuza boss Toshinari Eguchi. He is the husband of Xiu Xiu, who is now called Yuko and are parents of a little daughter. The mobster offers a dirty job to Tietou; in retribution, he promises to deliver the quarter dominated by the Taiwan gang to him. Tietou becomes the boss of the Chinese illegal immigrants. But his peaceful methods make him unpopular and Tietou starts to lose control over his men which escalates into a giant gang war.

In addition to committing fraud against the three, the large sum of money they didn't even know they had, he did something ten years ago that will result now in their imminent deaths. After Cob confirms the accuracy of what Duke wrote, each of the three goes on an end of life journey, Nuts and Cal's specific to their respective lives in boxing and with women. While Cob does go the route of carrying out his bucket list, some of the more dangerous items on which may indeed kill him, Nuts and Cal may also find their remaining path will take them possibly closer to death, an unintended consequence.

Avery is able to infiltrate the crack house as a supposed junkie and abduct Jan, who is not a willing kidnappee in her constant need to get a fix. In addition to Tal and Donny who each have their own reasons for wanting to get Jan back by violent means if need be, Avery will learn that there are others who are after Jan and who want her dead, he more than acceptable collateral damage in the process. As such, Jan, in her more lucid moments, may come to the realization that she is safer with Avery than with any of those who are tracking her. Avery will have to find out Jan's true past to find out why someone would want her dead. In the process, Jan may see a glimmer of hope in recapturing one small but bright part of her past which she probably thought was gone forever.
