A return to popularity occurs when he helps Patrick Angus (Jonathan Tucker), a young, A.I.D.S.-afflicted artist attain fame for his paintings and his healthy cynicism is marketed by performance artist Penny Arcade (Cynthia Nixon), putting him back in the limelight. Poor health causes him to refuse a lecture tour of England, but he gives a triumphant final audience at a gay club in Tampa. A postscript informs that he died at the age of ninety-one.

It's November 30, 1962. Native Brit George Falconer, an English professor at a Los Angeles area college, is finding it difficult to cope with life. Jim, his personal partner of sixteen years, died in a car accident eight months earlier when he was visiting with family. This day, George has decided to get his affairs in order before he will commit suicide that evening. As he routinely and fastidiously prepares for the suicide and post suicide, George reminisces about his life with Jim. But George spends this day with various people, who see a man sadder than usual and who affect his own thoughts about what he is going to do. Those people include Carlos, a Spanish immigrant/aspiring actor/gigolo recently arrived in Los Angeles; Charley, his best friend who he knew from England, she who is a drama queen of a woman who romantically desires her best friend despite his sexual orientation; and Kenny Potter, one of his students, who seems to be curious about his professor beyond English class.

Craig (a very young Craig Bierko) is a popular High School student bored because he isn't making a difference. Mahmud Nasir lives in a London suburb with his pretty wife Saamiya and their two children, Rashid and Nabi. Mahmud does not know that Arshad has been checking into his background, has videotaped him setting fire to a Jewish cap during a protest, and has already approved of him, despite his letter to the media about 'moderate Muslims'. But on the day of the meeting with Arshad and Uzma, - Mahmud finds his life drastically changed when the Police will attend to arrest him, and he is forced to publicly proclaim that he is Jewish--a move that will not only alienate him from his family but also from both the Jewish and Muslim communities.

In 19th century Spain, young sergeant Don José falls in-love with beautiful gypsy girl Conchita who works inside the military fort in a small workshop. While she apologizes to him and seduces him, she also distracts his attention from a small group of smugglers who enter the fort. Don José is furious and goes to see Conchita at her friend's place. Unfortunately, Conchita is there with a gentleman lover, an officer. In a fit of jealousy, Don José loses his head and punches the officer who falls and dies. Don José deserts the army and runs away with Conchita. She takes him to a gypsy camp where many smugglers live. Conchita and Don José plan to save money and board passage on a ship bound for a new life in America. In the camp appears one man, former Lt. Miguel Garcia, who has just been released from prison. A shocked Don José learns that Miguel Garcia is Conchita's husband. He refuses however to see that Conchita is a lying, manipulative woman who has many secret lovers and who uses all of them. Nevertheless, Conchita gets a servant's job in the household of a rich Englishman from Gibraltar. She finds out that her employer plans to transport a lot of gold and money, via stagecoach, to the bank in another town. Conchita, her husband Miguel Garcia and Don José hatch a plan to ambush the stagecoach and rob it. Don José insists that no weapons should be used, because the penalty for murder is death. In principle, they all agree but Miguel Garcia is armed for any eventuality. The plan goes ahead without any problems up to the point where they transfer the chest with gold to their horses. After that, things start going bad.
