Pictures From a Hiroshima Schoolyard is a documentary focused around a set of old Japanese children's drawings found in the closet of a member of All Souls Church in Washington, DC in 1995. Current parishioners unearth the dramatic story behind the drawings and discover that they were drawn in 1947 by students of a school less than a half-mile from where the first atomic bomb in history was detonated. The young Empress Sissi is staying at the Gödölle Palace in Hungary with her little daughter and some court people. Here she can be herself, liberated from all the strict court rules in Austria. The Austrian ministers suggest that Emperor Franz Joseph should combine his reunion with Sissy with an official visit to Lombardy-Venetia. Austria is much hated there, but needs a good relationship with this country. The man who gave the world Canvey Island's finest exports, Chris Fenwick a lifelong Islander, local pub landlord and manager of classic pub rock band Dr. Feelgood has devised a plan to integrate the communities by inviting the newcomers to a gig at his pub, taking the Hasidic children on a guided tour of the Island and with the help of the Reverend David Tudor and incoming mayor Barry Campagna organising a dinner party for the two very different communities. Mutual understanding is top of the menu, but will the Hasidic guests turn up? Will the Islanders learn to love their new neighbours?
